  • How Long To Rebuild A Bike? – Back From The Dead

    To answer my own question:

I only had a long cage mech, so stuck with that, just shortened the chain a bit.

Up front I went with a Hope bash and an inner bash from these guys:

    http://www.bbgbashguard.com/Mountainbike.html

it comes from the USA, came in 3 days, marked as ‘gift’ so no tax to pay.

I also went with an on-one deep drop chainring.

Next time, I’ll stick with a standard unramped chainring to save an ounce and a couple of quid. I would get the same inner and would probably buy an outer bash from bbg too.

Get a groupset from merlin and sell the bits you don’t need on here

Only a few rides on my velvets but they are great so far, seem to be cheaper than the equivalent from rock shox etc. I haven’t got any other ‘modern’ fork to compare to but they seem really smooth.

Main bonus for me is 100mm bolt thru, which I don’t think you can get from rock shox.

they seem bloody expensive compared to disc brakes. and replacement brake pads are not cheap.

I’d go with disc’s every time.

What becky says, if your doing zone 2 stick to it as much as possible, though from experience I appreciate its not easy and you can expect to drift a bit on the climbs, but try to control it.

Should ensure your fresh for the really hard intervals.

DO the on-one rings work okay with 10 speed? It says 8 and 9 speed on the website.

I carry the duff bag basic first aid kit and bought a few space blankets from ebay. I also picked up a couple of basic kits from asda the other week, only £1

I was prepared to be sent away with a flea in my ear but he didn’t bat an eyelid.

It’s probably down to each store/member of staff how closely they monitor it.

that or they are still sat in the corner of the shop

Does anyone else find it difficult just generally playing with their kids?

Yeap just the same. My little one is 4 and is incapable of playing by herself, there is only so many times I can play nurseries with her. Fortunately she has moved onto doctors now which is more interesting.

I’d much rather be out and about at the park, on the bike, swimming etc.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen the south downs so bad. If there is any live stock in the area the trails are torn to shreds.

In defence doesn’t sound like they are demanding an increase, just stating what they think they should be paid.

what northwind said, if its in good condition a bit of grease and adjustment will sort it our.

But if the bearings/cones are already stuffed there’ll be nothing you can do before you ride.

    Might as well ride it.

I missed the earlie thread, are they square taper?

Have you def removed all washers?

I have used a hammer in the past but it doesn’t do thet crank much good.

Try riding around on the bike with the bolts undone

    Cheers for responses.

It is the thermal cut out on the Extension that is tripping and it is fully unwound.

Ill try a heavy duty extension and see how it goes, should I get one with an Rcd?

john_l did you do all the optional peaks?
Yup. Firle was ok, Bo-Beep was hard, especially the last 100m straight into the wind & the last one (can’t remember what it was called) was a mix of carry/ride. Great descent back down though ;o)

    Where you there?

Yeap chasing my club mates round, ashamed to say we missed the optional climbs, I was on my arse so it suited me, first proper ride of the year so found it tough.

Well done for getting round the whole course, I think it might be quite fun with less wind

The location of the chips suggest the bike has been built and stripped, whilst not a concern I would want more than £75 off the retail price.

Edit – if there is already money off I’d probably go for it.
