the generic template is great value and it seems to work pretty well! im getting a new front next year.the webdesigner is very helpful and always good for advice so im staying…also i cna buy bike databases off him every year which saves about a weeks work(when the bikes change every year!)

yep your rite, the only problem is that visibility costs, well with google it does! and you can do it on the cheap but you need loads of time to spend on optimisation….

we come up the rankings really high on certain products with google (my biggest selling item is a parent handle for 20 quid, top ranking on google!) and we get about 500 to 600 people a day looking at the site which from a standing start 18 months ago im pretty happy with.we’re growing organically!

id second andrew at the bike works,i send edin customers there all the time.

mark asked alistair for some wheels and at that time was going to be supported so he got some light race ones then he chucked all his kit on the back so no wonder he had issues….hes a cracking builder, does wheels for all sorts of pro’s, racers etc.

we however also do a good set of wheels as both my mechs have been doing them for years……cycle-world.co.uk

id agree an 18″ would be ok,especially if your hsutling it offroad, the 20″ is pretty big…

its the best bike we sell period…im basing this on all the happy customers who have one.

i think most of my feelings have been dealt with by the other realists out there…..i cant remember crc shaking a hand, making a coffee for a cold roadie, speaking enthusiastically about the new whatever(and then selling it!) making way for the emergency repair that means any customer that needs it can ride the next day….

crc are great for some people im sure but most of my customers seem to appreciate what we do for them…..

do it! i did it 5 1/2 years ago,i bought a shop which had customers/turnover/profit etc….that was the best idea i had! i can’t imagine starting a shop from scratch…

ive done well, ive expanded, trebled the turnover, sigend some great brands and enjoy it every day.its tough to though! cashflow is hard to maintain, staff are the biggest nightmare and a partner/family can remind you how obsessive it can be…

my background maybe helps as i worked for a bike supplier for 5 years/bike shop for 5 years(try and work in a bike shop, even halfords would be valuable) and bottom line trust your instincts..take all advice and only use the good stuff.its only people without a business who seem to think its really risky…get in touch if you want to talk about it

that all sounds good, especially the program that tells you what folk think about you! im following single track and most other bike biz’s.

very interesting watching the usa shops speaking to their customers….
