    I’m most disappointed.

I saw a bit about the Hutton report on BBC Breakfast this morning and bet myself £5 that the ensuing STW thread would mention “ideology” in the first page.

The in-laws came back from the Movenpick resort at El Gouna (which is on the other side of the Red Sea from SES) a couple of weeks ago.

No problems at all and the hotel staff were delighted to have some guests. About 120 guests in a resort built for 1000+, mainly Brit’s as the FCO said the resorts were safe (unlike the Germans and Russians).

as far as i’m aware, longbow is not needed in the ‘stan, 50 tanks coming over the horizon has been replaced by a couple of crafty yoofs with AK and a command wire hidden behind a mud wall.

Skiboy – You might enjoy reading Apache Dawn: Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

In the summer of 2007 the British Army’s 662 Squadron deployed its most potent weapons system in combat for the very first time – the iconic Apache attack helicopter. This is the definitive story of the aircraft and of the crew who fly her, and of their baptism of fire in the battle for Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Under the call-sign Ugly, four of the Army Air Corps’ finest pilots flew a relentless series of missions during their 100-day deployment, stretching the aircraft, and themselves, to the limit.

I had an epidural before going in to theatre to fix my broken femur.

I was out for most of the op but was “awake” at the end and could hear the surgeon hammering the nail / rod into my leg. Very weird sensation hearing somebody doing something like that but not feeling it.

I lost 5 stone and went from 42/40″ to 34″ (though still usually need a 36″ or bigger waist to get trousers over my legs)

As mentioned above, look at the AA or RAC prices with the potential for cashback:

The biggest thing I miss about ditching my gym membership a good few years ago is the spinning classes. We had a couple of really good instructors who would destroy you. By the end of a session, I’d look like I’d cycled through the swimming pool – urgh!

+1 for the eye candy in a class being a bonus.

Aluminium unibody is a lot tougher than plastic bodies you get on most standard windows machines

Is that a like-for-like comparision? Eg £400 models compared or £1000 models compared?

The Elitebook I linked to above has, to quote, HP:

A magnesium/aluminum display enclosure and magnesium alloy chassis provides increased durability.

Before I got my FR 310XT, I used Mapometer:

Has pretty good logging facilities and doesn’t keep trying to sell you premium membership like MapMyRun.

Hertz.co.uk – has a box to click for returning to a different location
Avis.co.uk – has a link to click for returning to a different location
Europcar.co.uk – has a box to untick for returning to a different location

Google doesn’t always have the answers 😉

Charity Lane is fun and makes a good start to a day if you go out the forest to take in bits like Cumberland Clough and Three Shires

It’s all done by address, basically. I believe (though don’t know first-hand) that when you buy a TV you get ‘reported’ to the licensing authority so they can cross-reference your address.

Aye – I had Amazon deliver a DVD/HD recorder to work. I now get letters (at work) saying I don’t have a TV license… 🙄

We’ve had some of the (old model) HP DeskJet 460s and have two of the current model H470s for our sales guys.

They have worked pretty well. The WiFi setup on the 460 model was terrible, so we stick to USB.

My Whiskers arrived yesterday (ordered Friday).

Just a soft bag but nothing wrong with them to my naked eye.

Depends on which route and operator hora.

I’ve got an Edinburgh to Manchester Airport train before, run by TransPennine. That was exactly as you said – small compartment with nicer trimmings.

Get a Voyager (eg XC Trains) or Pendalino (Virgin West Coast) and you’ll get a proper 1st class carriage.

We hired this one in September 2008:

Got it for a great price as it was right at the end of the season – 3 of us rattled around it in 😀 Hot tub was lovely after a day on the bike or walking. You could walk in to Les Houches for a beer and big plate of Tartiflette.

Jaipur is top stuff – I’m sure you’d fall over pretty quickly on it.

I do like Purple Moose’s Dark Side of the Moose.

    Recommendation required please…

Now, I’ve always associated mild with the contents of the drip tray (not to mention old blokes in flat caps with whippets). The other night I found a bottle of Woodlands Mild at the back of the beer fridge in the garage. It did say best before 2009 but I drunk it anyway. I was surprised by how good it was, quite a nutty flavour – it went down a treat.

So, who else makes a good mild?

I was around a 40″ waist and dropped 5 stone.

Craghopper 34″ walking trousers are fine but I often end up needing 36″ or 38″ waist in jeans or work trousers due to thunder thighs!

Never parked at Asda – we always park (FOC) at City of Manchester and walk which takes about 10 minutes.

There are some signs saying you can’t take coolboxes of food into Veledrome. I take my camera rucksack which has some goodies in it.

Here’s a birthday present for the WAGs of STW: EvenSlice

PS Don’t get me started on the way she hacks at a block of cheese

+1, although I also get very concerned about the rabid tearing of the wrapper, so you end up with lovely dry cheese 😯
