I “work” in cheese, so I picked up the following from the shop: Stichelton, Montgomery’s, Cornish yarg, Stawley, Tunworth, and Faellan. Can’t wait! Cheese is the best bit of the meal.

I’ve just gone from an old passant estate(98) that just kept going and going until a lorry smashed it, to a octavia. It is a few years old but absolutely loving it. Very high levels of equipment(leather seats, climate control etc) and has the 140 bop engine. Absolutely bags of power and torque.
I looked at getting a superb but couldn’t justify getting another car that big.

I was late for a flight once and decided to iron my shirt right after stepping out of the shower. Naked. In my rush, I knocked over the iron. The good news is that I didn’t burn my nads, the bad news is that I burned my nipple. I feel your pain emmz!

Just an observation but… We get these spot checks all the time in London. The funny thing is they are always in the same places! Surely if they are trying to catch out the crims, they would want the element of surprise. You always see people doing the rat run down the back roads trying to get away from them. Another thing I notice is that of the people that get pulled, the great majority are non white. Racial profiling?

We had a VW Passat. Had 189000 and still going strong. Easily averaged 45-50mpg on long runs at 80-85.
Written off last week(smacked in the rear by a MandS Lorry)
Just bought a Octavia for £3000 with the golf tdi 140bhp engine. Incredibly fast, powerful and economical. Cost us £50 to get back to London from Edinburgh last week!

Nothing wrong with driving in London, I do it every day. Even the traffic isn’t too bad, you just have to know the shortcuts. What I can’t stand is dawdling out of town drivers who don’t know where they are going and swerving all over the road whilst glued to their sat navs. Dangerous.

As above, season with lots of salt and pepper a room temperature steak. Get griddle/fry pan red hot(and I mean RED HOT!) With a pair of tongs, sear the fat side for a few minutes to get some colour then place the steaks face down on the griddle for about 2 minutes per side(depending on thickness/level of doneness) Flip and repeat. When done take off and rest(the steaks, not you :D) while you finish cooking your chips etc. Nom nom

Well done, giving blood is something that I just can’t do(huge fear of needles) I don’t mind being punched on the nose to get it to bleed, but not many nurses are too keen on this method!

In the Peaks I once put a loads of bricks in the back of my fast mates pack. We got to the top of a really steap climb and he complained at the weight of his pack. Cue much hilarity when he found said bricks! Still beat us all to the top though!

Once got off a Korean Air flight to NZ. Going through customs with loads of Korean’s, a man next to me shouts out “Bruce Willis”!!! Everybody turned and camera flashes started going off. Very embarrassing!

Slovenia to London in a day. We miscalculated our finances and realised (bank holiday or something) that we didn’t have enough money to last the week. In fact we only had enough money for diesel to get us home. Made it all the way from Lake Bled to Luxembourg on one tank of diesel! Then filled up on cheap diesel.

Almost brought a tear to my eye. It was a really inspirational and heartwarming gesture to see Wiggins leading out Cavendish after all his hard work. It was also nice to see Wiggins wait for Cadel after the tyre puncture incident. Real gents, and nice to see when you compare to the win at all costs attitude of football(and other sports)

Really sorry to hear this. I just got back from Morzine and have a similar story. My friend crashed on his first run in Les Gets and broke his collarbone and a few ribs. Luckily we have a doctor in our group(with a big bag of drugs!) and the French dealt with him quickly and efficiently.

Walking on egg shells round here at the moment. Wife is about to resign/be made redundant at her job. Long story but she has been bullied and the company will not pay redundancy(friend of ours is a HR expert and has been helping her) The better option is to walk. Have been offered a settlement. We are both under tremendous stress hoping she gets a new job.
Decided to organise a visit to Chicksands to prepare for the Alps. Mates van blew up on the M1.
But it isn’t all bad. I have finally found a job that I enjoy(although it doesn’t pay a massive amount) and we are off to the Alps at the end of the month.
And I still love my wife after 12 years of marriage, although she sometimes drives me crazy!
I am trying to learn to take the good with the bad. Otherwise I would go crazy.

A few weeks ago my mate had a crash on the Beast(Peaks) He dusted himself down and carried on, only to have his (carbon) bars completely snap! He was a little white at the bottom and needed a change of pants.
    I would bin them.

This is great! I would absolutely love to be in your shoes and write about music!
Some of the guys above beat me to it, but I think writing about Detroit Techno would be interesting. I would slant towards Carl Craig(huge fan) as he is such a influential talent across a broad spectrum of genres(straight up techno, Drum and Bass, Electronica, and even jazz with his Detroit experiment stuff)
Or your other option of MAW. Again lots of history that you can delve back into(the whole latin/Puerto Rican jazz stuff etc.) Interesting stuff.
On a different tip that nobody has mentioned, what about Suicide? Hugely influential and not greatly known until many years later.

    – 250g (9oz) Ghee/Clarified Butter
    – 65g (2 1/2oz) Garlic
    – 1 tablespoon Red Chilli Powder
    – 1 tablespoon Ground Cumin
    – 1 tablespoon Paprika
    – 550g (1 1/4lb) Onions Chopped
    – 50g (2oz) Fresh Ginger, peeled and chopped
    – 900g (2lb) Boneless leg or shoulder of Lamb (1½ in) cubes
    – 120ml (4fl oz) water
    – 3 tablespoons Fresh Coriander (chopped)
    – 1 tablespoon Ground Turmeric
    – 350g (12oz) Fresh Spinach washed with large stalks removed
    – 4 medium sized Green Chillies with stalks removed
    – ½ tablespoon Garam Masala
    – 1 x 400g (140z) Can Chopped Toms
    – 1 tablespoon Salt
    – 1 tablespoon Ground Coriander
    – A pinch of ground cumin and freshly ground black pepper to serve

    Method

    1. Heat the ghee in a large, heavy based pan. Add the onions and cook over a medium heat, stirring now and then, for 20 minutes until they are soft and a light brown

    2. Put the tomatoes, water, ginger and garlic into a liquidizer and blend until smooth. Remove the fried onions with a slotted spoon, add them to the paste and blend briefly until smooth.

    3. Return the puree to the ghee left in the pan and add the lamb and salt. Simmer for 30 minutes, by which time the lamb will be half cooked and the sauce will be well reduced. Stir in the turmeric, chilli powder, cumin, paprika and ground coriander and continue to cook for 30-45 minutes for shoulder or 45-1 hour for leg, until the lamb is tender, adding a little water now and then if the sauce starts to stick.
    4. Meanwhile, put 175g (6oz) of the spinach leaves into a large pan and cook until it has wilted down into the bottom of the pan. Cook for 1 minute, then transfer to the rinsed out liquidizer and blend to a smooth puree. Set aside. Rinse out the liquidiser again and add the green chillies and 2-3 tablespoons of water and blend until smooth. Set aside.
    5. When the lamb is cooked, there should be a layer of ghee floating on the top of the curry. You can either skim it off or leave it there, whichever you prefer (leave it). Then stir in the spinach puree and the remaining spinach leaves and cook for 2 minutes.
    6. Now taste the curry and add as much green chilli puree as you wish, according to how hot you like your curries. Simmer for 2 minutes more.
    7. Stir in the fresh coriander and Garam Masala. Transfer the curry to a serving dish and sprinkle with a little more ground cumin and some freshly ground black pepper just before you take it to the table.
Serve with your choice of rice, Naan breads, Poppadoms and whatever else you can cram in.

This also works well with mutton.
