Any that is pedaled by Jerome?

Jerome Flynn? Who does he ride for?

Like others have said, just don’t worry about it.
I have only ridden twice in the last 2 months, when I did I didn’t enjoy about 80% (lots of pedally fireroad) of the ride but the other 20% was great fun (some great stuff at Coedy). Saying that, the bikes gears were misbehaving badly so that won’t have helped.
Getting back on track though, I am not interested at all in getting the bike out for evening rides at Delamere which is what I have done 2 evenings a week for 4 or so years, riding through the winters no problem but this year, pretty much as soon as the dark evenings set in I just can’t be bothered with it all again.

For me it is the mud and slop. I will get out again during the drier months but at the moment don’t really care how long I give up the regular riding for.

Would rather go for a walk to be honest!

68 activities doing 742 miles in total.

Riding at least twice a week, mainly evening rides but the occasional longer weekend ride.
At the moment I am down to once a week, struggling since it went dark and wet!

Honestly. Just give it up, don’t bother as it will get you nowhere and just crack on with life.

    Mine worked perfectly too.
Not sure on the minimum size rotor though as I ran mine with a 140mm rotor.

Plenty of folk that can show you around, myself included.
Drop me an email and I can show you around delamere, lots of singletrack there. You can get there from northwich without hardly touching a road.
I live in the next town so can show you some local stuff too.

People in there every evening. I go on a monday and wednesday.

Taxi25 – she would be 100% hell to live with if there was a “No” decision. It’ll just fester and be brought up in every argument about unrelated matters for the rest of my life I imagine! Fun times ahead!

haha, is this when the classic MTFU answer appears?

It wouldn’t be an easy conversation though.

Easy enough for them to ask it seems!
I wouldn’t dream of asking anyone to do that.

    I wouldn’t personally but that’s just me.

    Mine are shit too unfortunately.

I don’t think they all are though.

Nope, you are all wrong the XR2 and 3 were front wheel drive. The XR2 had the old pushrod crossflow engine with a SINGLE twin choke Webber and the XR3 the CVH engine with similar carb before they went fuel injection.

Except that is a mk2 XR2 and that has the CVH engine like the XR3.

I thought they were ok put agreed that they just weren’t close to the old RWD RS models. Shame.

Hardly ever gladly, it hurts nowadays and am off the bike for longer!
Came off last year but that was when my chain gave up, bounced off two trees, covered in just bruises thankfully but it frickin hurt.

Not come off the bike since and that was back in about may.
Dial in tons of self preservation.

I have a dongle too but mine has two rings up front and one out back.
It runs a 42 and a 32 up front and 16 at the back, I tension it using an old mech and have the chain at its tightest when on the 42t (obviously!), it has plenty of tension with it using a mech, the gears never skip.
It has to be changed manually when going from the 32 up to the 42 ring but it can be changed down from 42 to 32 by flicking the chain off with your foot!
Works perfectly and would give you a decent gear for blasting the flat and a super easy gear for steep uphills.

Much easier than you think, plus rigids are much easier to ride with uphill than bouncy ones.

32:18 would drive you mad on the road, way too spinny.
My road tyred mtb runs 42:16 and is fine for me but I have been SSing for a few years so go with warpcows suggestion of 39:18 and see how you get on.

I was typing that at the same time as you!

File down the nut bit, bit fiddly but will work.

    curlie467
    Free Member

aah, just cobble it together with washers, i’ve never bought a short bolt or nut.

Its the nut bit though that you need, the short bolt has nothing to do with it, the actual nut is longer in length than your chainring and crankset combined so like said, you can file it down, get a washer set-up in there or buy a shorter nut.

No, it will be fine. Comma is a decent make anyway.
I doubt you would ever get to a point on a bike where brake fade was an issue.

I have a SS DMR trailstar, used to be rigid but now has suspension, my forearms like it more!
Got a SS Rockhopper that is the school run and trundling around bike, not really SS as it has a 32 and a 42 at the front and I run an old mech as a tensioner with enough chain to change rings at the front, it works well, no slipping so i have a big gear for road duties and a little gear when I need it!
Also will be building up and old steel Kona, this too will be SS!

They are all different, you can get a special tool to get them off though.
