Alpkit is the way forward. Trying to see what I can sell to afford a Filet now!

I used a cheapo bike bag from a mate. Think it was called World Bike Bag or something. A mate had the Evoc bag.

I wrapped my frame in all the bubble wrap and Corex I could lay my hands on. Removed the discs from the wheels. Used a separate wheel bag for the wheels.

They both did the job, but my bag was pretty hard work to roll along and carry on the train. So much so, that I found myself wishing there was a hire service for the Evoc bag.

Having said that, my mate has found some of the stitching on the inside of his Evoc starting to deteriorate. Should get fixed with little problem though. Wouldn’t get a cardboard box because of the hassle of transporting it on a train.

Why do you want to replace your headset?

Somebody find this guy and give him his luckiest man in the world medal.

If this is on his doorstep then I envy him.

    stufive speaks the truth!

    – Another cable to worry about getting snagged somewhere, or detaching on a descent.
    – They’ll get ruined if it rains.
    – If you get in an accident then people could claim it was a mitigating factor. So check your insurance as well.

Took my Flow EX’s on Hope Pro II Evos out for a ride yesterday. First ride since December on the rough stuff (been on the road all this time), and first time at Aston Hill, and my first go on a DH run!

They were great. They brutalised the roots and seem so sure footed when cornering. Had big (for me) 2.35″ Hans Dampf tyres on them which didn’t hurt too, but yeah. No complaints at all. Did notice the rear wheel looked out of true when I’d finished and I’m not a heavy or a hard rider so perhaps they just need some attention.

Don’t know what the Superstar’s are like, but I don’t think you’d go wrong if you bought the EX’s in either flavour.

Are people really lacking in attention that badly that they need everything in their lives to be soundtracked?

Swapped to M530s from Eggbeaters. I prefer the feel of the SPDs to the CBs. Don’t really know how much of a difference the cage makes, but for a mincer like me it’s a psychological boost to know I won’t slip right off the pedal and thump my head on my stem if I miss the engagement.

    No.

Why take the risk? If the riding is so boring that you have to listen to music then find somewhere better to ride, or just ride harder.

We save every spare penny. However the gift of a wheelset last year for her bike didn’t negatively impact her estimation of me!

Bristol races are great. Do one with a mate in a team for maximum fun! Did fhe 4 hour pairs for my first race and I was hooked! Back again this year in the mixed pairs with the missus hopefully!

Deliveries are great. However, starting to notice RM deliveries taking 2 working days from dispatch opposed to the usual 1 working day. Your results may vary, but no complaints still!

Wish they’d stock clothing in normal people sizes though.

I thought it was supposed to be a modern take on the Twilight Zone.

I miss the Twilight Zone. Watched some on Youtube but it looks pretty dated these days. Still enjoyable if you have some patience though.

I have separate cover for the bikes away from home. More concerned with damage to me while on the bike! And the missus of course.

Will check the small print as advised.

Not liking how buying replacement bearings will literally generate excrement in my kecks so I’ll stick to Shimanos for now and stay faeces free.

    @chief9000

Usually eat a bowl of cereal with skimmed milk, a couple of slices of toast (white bread) with peanut butter and jam or cream cheese spread on it. They’re not huge slices though. Probably about the size of a normal slice of bread. I have a cup of tea or coffee before too.

    – Typical ride is between 80-120km. Longer in the “summer” if it ever gets here.
    – Feel the energy start to go at the 30km mark. The hunger kicks in around 50km, but I think that is too late to be feeding.
    – Hydration, water. I carry two 500ml bottles and drink a pint before we start.

Bottom of the range Canyon Nerve I reckon. £1139 at current exchange rate. Was £1039 last year I think.

Baby food sounds disgusting. Sorry :(

Hmmm…sausage rolls. But won’t they be prone to getting soggy? Brown bread sandwich with some cream cheese or crackers with some spread perhaps. Some good ideas in here. Keep them coming folks!

Something healthy mate. I do like them though. Don’t taste the same without hot sauce. Would be a bit tough to carry that too and eat it on the go.

@justatheory you can try, but grad schemes are a needle in a haystack shot is my feeling. What do you want to do? If you want to get onto a company’s IT grad scheme then there are simpler ways to do it. For example, get an industry qualification, get onto a support team and then see if you can move sideways.

OP. A mate of mine makes amplifiers for a living. It started with him making amps for mates’ cars and he got more business through word of mouth. He now does it full time for a living. Still relies on word of mouth for business. If you can go down this route and are more interested in having control of your life than the end dollar, then it seems a good way to make a living.

1 MTB, 1 road bike. Drooled over the MTB for ages and it was a good day when my Nerve turned up on my doorstep. Missus owns one of the road bikes. Make a point to order a spare hanger.

MTB arrived with broken hanger. They sent me a replacement within a week and paid for LBS to do some fettling up to the value of £15 for a rear derailleur adjustment. Cullen was pretty good to deal with. Prompt responses to e-mail and messages on the phone.

Damned fine bikes. If they did a dirt jump bike then I would probably be drooling over it as we speak.

    C456, any bike will do

    This.

If you have to ask which bike to take and can’t jump then you probably need instruction from a professional.

No. No problems justifying it to the missus at all.

Then again, she is a roadie with no soul, so I doubt she can feel things like emotions.

I use a Camelback Octane LR. It can fit in food and drink for a day trip at a push. Carrying the water around the waist seems to stabilise it better than normal backpacks that have the cylindrical-ish bladders.

We’ve all been there mate. Once drove 200+ miles to the Quantocks only to realise I’d left my shoes at home. Cue trip to local bike shop for new shoes and pedals!

Glad someone is getting some off roading in the winter, it’s all miserable road miles this way.

    Books were great though.

Surely this all depends on what she wants the bike for?

    – Small single km figure commute to work, shops then get her something light.
    – Will you be doing the maintenance? Single speed if above journey allows. Or hub gears if gears required.
    – Ultimately you need to get her something she likes the look of. Or she may hate riding it.

Mine’s first bike after a long hiatus was a Trek 3rd District. She wanted a Pashley first and was told to go make love to herself. Completely impractical for her purposes and horribly expensive. She loves the Trek, but was consulted and made to feel a part of the decision.

She now has more bikes than me.

400 really shit road kilometres. Maybe 60 more tomorrow if I can be bothered to wake up early.

I would trade it for a single 40km mountain bike ride.

In fact, that’s probably what it’s worth.
