How is the TacX Sartori as a trainer then?

SPDs were a bit of a nightmare.

Should hopefully be ok for a commute though, surely?

Surely the dream garage is where you don’t have to have a garage to work on your own car/bike?

Seriously, if you said I’d never have to fettle, or clean my bikes then I would love you long time.

    Anyway, dream bike:

Garage, probably something like this, complete with my personal mechanic:

You can tell I should really be doing something else today instead of wasting my time on here.

Just saw him on Screenwipe. Hilarious. Especially the bit about how he’d not brag if someone who couldn’t speak my own language could waltz in and take my job!

I’ve done it and it’s worked fine.

If you have newer model XT shifters then you can make a switch adjustment to make it two clicks instead of three.

I think there are some restrictions regarding how many teeth you can have on your chainrings. I went from a standard triple to a 40-28 in front and 11-36 at the rear with a medium cage XT mech with no problems.

Cheers. The Alpkit Gammas seem better value compared to these? Any experience with those?

I also have a couple of LED Lensers. Can I try these in a headband, or is that a bad idea?

If you’re going to stay there for long enough might it not be more cost effective to buy a cheap van and resell it once the trip is over?

Van hire runs close enough to £100 a day even if you’re only going to use it inside the UK. At one week then that’s about £700 + fuel costs and whatnot. If you have your own vehicles then it may be simpler to get 4 bike carriers and put them on the roof instead of renting a van. Mate’s just done it in an Audi and he went all the way to the Dolomites.

@cinnamon_girl I think names like “Banshee”, “Ibis”, and all of the Cove range sound a little strange, but it doesn’t mean they don’t make good bikes!

I demoed one. I don’t know how much of a difference 650B makes, but the bike rides well, and things like value for money (probably better than Canyon!), the opportunity to support a local business, local after-sales support, and transferable warranty make it a brand the budget conscious MTBer would be a fool to ignore!

    Buy a bike that fits.

I rode a 21″ Claud Butler for 8 years before realising it was for someone probably a foot taller than me. Probably spent more trying to get it riding “right” than what it cost.

Kit? Probably a decent track pump and tyre levers. Oh, and learn how to use them!

If you’re looking to support a local bike designer then have a look at Bird Cycles[/url]. They should be able to sort you out with a demo and are probably the best priced bikes you’ll find.

    Most probably the microfilter.

Am assuming you’re not using a cordless phone and wireless internet.

But like Cougar said, most likely it’s the microfilter. Simplest and most obvious first point of troubleshooting anyway.

My Dad had a habit of checking all the doors and windows were locked and every single light and power switch was switched off (apart from the fridge) before he went to bed. I’d wake up in the middle of the night, go downstairs, switch the light in his office on and open the window in it and go back to bed. In the morning I’d wake up and see Dad switching the light on and off with a puzzled look on his face. He even called an electrician in a couple of times to see if something was wrong with the light.

I’ve never admitted it to this day, but he’s had the last laugh because I now wander around my house doing exactly the same thing!

Turned out that cable was seated fine. It was a tension and limit screw issue.

What a PITA. At least know I know for sure though. And yes, it has taken me this long to sort it out. Shows how little I’ve ridden 🙁

A mate of mine told me his Paypal account was frozen at random and it took a while for them to release the funds.

Slippery eels them e-Bay folk. I’d not sell anything of value on there if I could help it. The repeated gouging for fees is ridiculous now.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

If Di2 means no more trim, front mech adjustments and gear cable changes then I’ll start saving my money now!

Infinte Monkey Cage series was a total bust. Just felt like geeks trying to be funny. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it seemed a bit too “look at me! I am smart and I am trying really hard to be funny”.

Loved Dan Carlin’s Hardcore Histories though. Absolutely riveting stuff. Especially the Roman History and WWI and II related stuff. Thanks Ewan!

Going to see if I can chuck a donation his way. Cannot believe we can get stuff like that for free off the internet!

Was at race weight on 25th October last year (60.5kg). Need to get to 62kg by 8th March.

Better get the road bike out I reckon 🙁

Dave! I completely forgot my old e-mails. Forgive me!

I should have mentioned I think I have an SS specific rear wheel (Hope Pro 2 on Arch EX) that came with a rear bolt through axle. Should that do the trick?

Should mean I can get away with just buying:

    – Rear sprocket
    – Spacers
    – Chainring bolts
    – SS or 8 speed chain

    Is this correct?

Been fine for me apart from the occasional data, or voice and text outage. Been with them for about 2-3 years now. For the price you can’t complain, but I’d not advise having it for your work or critical phone.

So I can be less fatter than the missus in the scales game.

I am losing at the moment. Last night she grabbed my handles and went “I haven’t seen you boys in a while”.

She will pay for this. Mark my words.

Yup, looks like there’s one on the rear as well?

What is the “right” way to route it? Tension the cable as tight as possible with the shifter in the position for the small chainring, seat the cable on the tab, and tighten the 5mm bolt?

No idea about cheap, but I have an LED Lenser and it’s been with me for 8 years. Still on the original pair of batteries! It’s also seen me through every music festival I’ve been to over that time.

I liked it so much, that I bought the missus one for herself after she kept nicking mine.

It’s mostly just to gauge standover to be honest. So if the 18″ is fine for me then I’m sure the 16.5 will be too. I’d run it with some 120mms initially as well. Any chance we can meet?
