If carbon is cheaper then I’ll consider it!

Main aim is to get the ride height right, comfort is a very close second.

I ran a Tora with a 203mm rotor for a year and didn’t die. I think you will be ok.

If it bothers you then sell the Hope and get a 200mm rotor.

    Cheers for the recommendations.

How good is the Thomson at smoothing the ride out? Any particular model I should look at?

Looks like it maybe eXotic again though.

It’s a winter, and winter races only bike (4-6 races at the most) so I’d not want to spend over £100 on it. There are a couple of other things it needs too (new front rotor) which are eating into the budget.

So, budget wise it looks like the Eriksen ones are out. Thanks for taking a look though!

With a tracker how soon do they put your mortgage payment up/down once the base rate changes?

I am pretty new to the game. I like to know my outgoings are fixed, so quite tempted by some of the long term fix rates available at the moment.

Leave your brand new mountain bike unlocked outside a pub in Cambridge to look for your mate

On a variation of this, never lock up your bike to something less stronger than the D-Lock locking it!

    “just one more run”

I always say just two more for that exact reason!

I’m short, but I’d go for the roomier option. It’s not nice when your knee makes friends with the bars when you corner!

A friend of mine would like to add “never check the slack on your BMX’s chain with your fingers while riding it up a kerb”.

Bye bye index and middle finger tips!

I use my Pearl Izumi P.R.O Softshell for the road and it seems to do the things you’re asking of it. It is very warm though.

For MTB I have a Select softshell from the same company. I reproof it about once in every 5 washes and it seems to do the trick.

Ride a race the first ever time you’re on clipless pedals.

    Depending on your bike:
    – Bearings.
    – Chain and cassette.
    – Shifter cables.

So not a huge cost. Say £200-£250?

I’m on the rigid SS for everything except the 4-6 races I’ll enter through the autumn/winter and another 4-6 rides where I need a bigger bike to have fun. Even then, I suspect an HT with more travel will be more than capable of handling it.

This year I’m riding the HT and the rigid solely. Hopefully will translate to being faster in the spring!

Mate brought his B-i-L with us to Afan. He asks what type of riding it’s going to be. I think “ooh, he’s worried” and tell him not to worry, it’s all rollable and he’ll be fine.

He schooled us downhill all day long. Wheelied uphill for the heck of it and between the gates. He was like a circus rider or something.

Found out on the trip that he was a junior WC DH racer who used to room with Sam Hill. It was the weekend of an Enduro and it was hilarious watching him nonchalantly pick off the lads on a seeding run. Never seen anything like it.

    But yeah, him I reckon!

If it’s delaminating then I’d not chance it. Their aftersales is pretty good so just get in touch and ask them what they can do about it.

I ordered a cardigan from Howies and it looks like it was made to fit a man/kangaroo hybrid.

I met the Whackjob guys in Afan a couple of years ago! I will check out their kit. Thanks for the recommendations so far.

The Plan B thing is true.

An old flatmate had a guy who was “the one that got away” on her phone just in case things didn’t work out with her current boyfriend. She split up with her fella shortly after they moved in together because she couldn’t hack it.

Another one took it too far. She was seeing a bloke in the army she was madly in love with. He cut off all communication without warning. She started going out with her back up bloke and married him. A few years later the marriage fell apart and she rebounded onto a male friend from work. Her fella knew what was coming because she constantly kept talking about him and insisting they were just mates. She’s now married to the bloke from work.

Absolutely agree that a determined crim will make off with your stuff. It’s just damage limitation really.

Maybe securing the bikes is the difference between them making off with one instead of all. That sort of thing. Agree about alarms. Bloke opposite my house’s alarm went off in the middle of the day on a weekend. I was the only person who headed across to check on it.

Any advice on mounting this to the wall, or anyone got any different solutions?

I don’t think there’s a cost effective way to do it.

    You need something that can:
    – Identify itself via a signal.
    – Track the signal. Unless you have access to a satellite network?
    – A power source.
    – Be hidden in a bike inconspicuously.

Maybe something like Findmyiphone with a cheaper older model will work. You still need to be able to attach the phone inconspicuously to the phone though.

I have a mate who takes this approach when the baby cries. He tells his wife “it’s your baby, you wanted it” and turns over.

Imagine this said by a massive Romanian bloke.

He says it works every time.

Going a bit OT, but can a bike with a shorter ETT feel “roomier” than one with a longer ETT? I have a slack head angle (65 degrees) and 160mm travel bike that feels roomier than a 69 degree HA bike with 120mm travel. 1st is an HT other is an FS if that makes any difference?

My bikes are mounted to the wall. I’m considering a wall mounted ground anchor, combined with the 16mm chain to shackle each bike to the wall. I could use some pipe lagging to protect the frame.

However, is it a bad idea to mount the anchor to the wall? Can I secure multiple bikes to a single ground anchor? Sorry if these questions seem a bit silly. I currently have a couple of D-locks that I’ve use to secure the rear wheel of the bike to the frame.

Child has lack of sleep – grumpy child.

You have lack of sleep – fall asleep at the wheel, die, child is left father/motherless, atomic death etc.

I am with you on this 100%. Let the child learn to comfort itself. I have few memories of being two. None of them involve any trauma due to sleeping in my cot on my own.

    – Rent a bike
    – Go to a pub/bar
    – Chocolate museum

One thing I couldn’t find was somewhere to eat some decent food without paying the earth for it. Got the feeling there’s a lot more to it a mile or two outside the centre, but didn’t have enough time to get there. The canal tours looked like fun too.

@matther01 do you run the Stanton with the DPAs in the 130mm position riding downhill as well? I am thinking about doing it, but was under the impression the lower travel setting was for climbing only?

Do you mean for torquing the stem faceplace screws?

For the controls I just tighten them enough so they’d move out of the way if I stacked it, but not enough so I can’t move them with a determined push.

May well be worth a trip to Koblenz. Was thinking about doing this with the missus early next year if I buy one myself.

Will the Slackline be a great climber? It’s heavy-ish and slack. But perhaps with some DPA forks you could get it to work better?

Oh, and Slackline all the way for me.
