How do you know the dates so far are with women?

Been quoted £342 by my LBS. Not bad I reckon.

The quote of £130 to build a wheel after supplying front hub I wasn’t too impressed by.

I try and run as fast uphill as I do downhill. Stops me from crashing into someone in front of me, or hurting myself.

1000 feet over a half marathon is not a huge amount of elevation. You should be ok with your training on the flat, but may have to readjust your target finish time. If you find the course profile then you should be able to try and simulate the hill reps to suit.

    Good luck.

    @mintimperial

Cheers, I’ve asked them for an address or a method to pay for the postage. Might as well replace the lower bearing in the meantime.

    Thanks to everyone else too.

I’ve tried searching for that on CRC and I’m turning nothing up though 🙁

Do you want the truth or something beautiful?

GrahamS, thanks very much for sharing that. I did not know that was an option!

Re-read the sentence and you’ll see it can be interpreted as showing I’m more interested in the leave than the pay. Additional Paternity Leave seems to only be available if the mother has returned to work. We want to take the time off together.

How did you fashion that chainstay protector?

    Nice bike by the way!

Magnet doesn’t mess with the bike’s paint job or finish when you scrape it along?

I always feel a bit of a plonker calling when overtaking because I’m so slow! Seems like everyone I overtook bar one DNF-ed so perhaps I’m just bad luck. Had enough time to stop for a chat with a lad who’d broken his chain and had no spares, and to dust myself off after a head over heels incident on the fast section leading to the steeper switchbacked section.

Gears and suspension next time, no stacks, and hopefully a finish higher up in the standings too!

Rigid SS was a bad choice! Stacked it trying to gain a place. Gears and suspension next time for sure!

    Lovely course though.

Quit a few years ago, but still want one when I see someone else doing it.

What stops me is knowing the pleasure from a fag will never compensate for the self loathing if I crack.

Fair point about it being a pretty shit addiction. The high is pretty rubbish.

I have a brand new Flow EX rim and a Hope hub sitting around as well. May have to return the rim and buy a 650B rim, or could order another rim and build onto that I guess.

Still means I’ve got a spare rim sitting around.

I have a bike holiday coming up soon and I’ve heard the wheels supplied are a bit hit and miss. I can afford a spare set so I thought I might as well invest in one so my holiday isn’t curtailed because of it. Is that sufficient explanation?

    Also, new shiny wheels! Yay!

Reliability is the main concern. Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll take a look at my options.

I’m comfortable fitting tape and valves, but it would be good to get something that doesn’t need me to check it every ride.

I’d suggest something a bit leftfield and heading to Southall for some Sri Lankan food instead. Similar to Indian, minus the cream. Try Palm Palace.

    It’s also very cheap!

Well, it’s finally done. Not an experience I’d care to repeat!

    Some tips:
    – Left side means non-drive side.
    – Remove the rubber guard at the bottom first if your bike has one.
    – The shapes in the kit may not match perfectly.
    – 8 minutes to apply and re-fit may seem like a lot, but is not really.
    – Don’t be too ham-fisted with the squeegee.
    – Borrow a heat gun if you can.
    – Be prepared to cut any cabling held together with a cable tie. It will make fitting the shape easier.

24 hours to cure apparently. Now I just need to set the wheels up tubeless and ride it!

All I remember is over whelming fear, shortly followed by overwhelming fatigue.

And a desire to book a return trip the instant I got home.

It really was “all down hill except for the ups”.

I’m missing the application window thingy you got with Android to switch between open apps. Am I missing something, or is it a “feature”?

“IT WORKS” were the first things out of my mouth.

I tell people how I feel, so pretty accurate.

It now needs to come out the right colour. I live in fear of a “Me, Myself and Irene” scenario.

    Well. It’s here now.

It’s massive. I feel like Theodore Twombley walking about with the phone in shirt pocket.

I’m trying to figure out how to see the weather and the world clock on the lock screen.

    27.5.

Not because it rides better, just because when you want to upgrqade/change wheels/forks you’ll be limited if you stick to 26 I guess.

If you’re happy with the 26″ kit that’s out there right now and will stick to it for the lifetime of the bike then go 26″.

I left to work in London for £17kpa at 25. I guess his mother is a great cook.

Or maybe he works at the Fat Duck.

I feel like I’m just sitting at threshold in the middle lap and there’s a bit more to give, but I just can’t be bothered to find it. I then start pushing to reel more people in on the last lap, but I’ve got no idea if they’re stragglers from another category, or people in my own race!

Some good stuff in here though. I never thought it was possible to be competitive with just 10 hours a week at the sharp end of Masters/Elite!

    @isto
Where did you get this deal from please?

    curiousyellow

How do you deal with the middle lap limbo? I can focus pretty well on the first and last lap, but my mind tends to go walkabout in the 2nd/2nd and 3rd laps.

The biggest gain for me came after following a periodised training plan. cannot tell you how satisfying it was to go from DNF last year, to top 3rd the next year in the same race! It’s not a podium, but it’ll do for now.

For a novice to racing and riding I found endurance training to be of great benefit. Just knowing your body can bash out a 2 hour ride with no problem helps a lot. Becoming competitive over those 2 hours is another order of magnitude harder I reckon.

For me leasing makes sense mathematically if depreciation over lease period equals, or is less than the cost of the total lease payments. Seems this is rare though.

Other factors like reduced maintenance on newer cars, not requiring an MOT and peace of mind due to having a warranty are also attractive.

It doesn’t seem to make sense if you want a vehicle to cart the bikes around. Potential for damage and the impact it will have on your lease doesn’t seem to be worth the risk.

So the total payable over 3 years is £16,049

Looking at Ling’s site, if I sort by price, the cheapest three year lease on a Golf with a reasonable 15k allowance per year is

    Deposit: £755.22
    Payments: 35 x £251.74
    Total payable = £9,566.12

40% cheaper to lease over 3 years albeit you don’t own the “asset” at the end of the period.

I could only find a 4 year deal on the site?

There’s a document fee of £180 as well. So the total cost for a cheap MOT + document fee + (50 x 220.56) means you’re paying £11,238 for the car over 4 years. I’m assuming you’re also responsible for any replacements it’ll need after the 3 year mark?

It does sound pretty decent if it’s over 3 years though, I must admit.

I used the Volkswagen website to come up with that figure using PCP which I think the OP was referring to?

    Deposit: £2167
    Acceptance fee: £125
    36 x £382.14 monthly payments.

    Interest rate was 7.3% APR.

so mojo replaced a perfectly good set of uppers? Sure there wasn’t a problem you hadn’t noticed that they fixed while they had it?

Nothing I noticed. However, the work note it came back with said they’d replaced the steerer unit. It had different decals on it too. Performance was much better and I’ve not noticed any problems since.

I do agree that it’s probably the brakes in this case.

I did a quick calculation for the basic 5 door Golf which is what we’re planning on getting. It costs £21,670 new. PCP over 3 years costs a shade over £16,000. I’d then hand it back.

A 3 year old 1.6 Golf with 30k miles on it goes for around 12000 on Autotrader. If I were able to sell it on for that much then I’d be looking at a loss of £9670.

Seems I’d save £7000 just buying brand new and taking the depreciation? Or am I missing something here?

If your forks need a service then send them away anyway and see if that fixes it once it’s back? I have some Fox 32s which I thought were a bit juddery. Turned out it was the headset, but Mojo were kind enough to replace the upper assembly under warranty.
