Reading is from one of those digital Topeak gauges.

There must be a point where it stops being accurate, but it matches the pump gauge in the 20s and a little bit below so no reason to stop believing it at the lower pressures?

Plus my local trails are pretty smooth.

Pink is a little too ghetto fabolous for me.

    Teal on the other hand…

I put two scoops of sealant in there. That usually does the job for large volume Schwalbes for over 6 months! The Contis must be quite porous seeing how quickly they lose air. I’ve not used them before, but the tyre feels ok so far.

Next question is how low to go for a 64kg rider (probably 68kg clothed and loaded?). With the Schwalbes I can go to 9 and 11 psi on a 2.35″ 26″ tyre on Flow EXs. Will the Contis go that low without problems? The bead seems quite a loose fit.

    @Superficial

So what are the actual problems if it won’t burp? I thought that meant the tyre had engaged? Do you mean it will slowly lose pressure over time and I’ll have to pump it up every now and then? I can live with that, but not with a burping tyre!

I need to ride the bike in 6 weeks in Spain. Really don’t want a burping tyre on the way down a sketchy descent! Probably order some Schwalbes for now.

I thought running it with the higher pressure and riding it meant the bead would have engaged? I can put some more sealant in no problem. I’ve got one of those bottles for it.

Front tyre seems to be holding pressure fine overnight now. Took it out for a ride and both of them stayed up no problems.

Bit disconcerting being pinged about with 30-35psi in there. Going to let it down a bit and take it out again soon. Let’s see how low it’ll go before it complains.

    Custom build?

Yeah, I saw that painting thing. Wish I’d known prior to splooging them.

Yeah, cores are fine. Looks like clean and replace is the safest option. Good thing they’re such a baggy fit so they’re not a PITA to get on and off.

Schwalbes have spoilt me. Going to get a pair ordered ASAP.

Reckon it’s ok to ride then? It looks like it holds pressure, just not overnight.

How long do you have to drive? It is running fine at the moment. Went today and it is great.

I have an awesome 26″ bike. I will probably hang on to it as long as I can find wheels and tyres for it.

    Thanks for all the responses.

I’m not worried that I’ve not got the distance in me, but more whether I can finish and not pick up some overuse injury. I’ve got a bike holiday on the MTB coming up in a couple of months coming up and I don’t want to nix that or be less than 100% for it.

I’m not treating it as a race so not worried about trying to beat other folk and such. I just want to enjoy the day, improve my fitness a bit, see what other routes are available around my area and have fun!

    Cool.

Plan is to ride 70km this weekend (bailout option at 50km), and maybe 100km the weekend after if the body feels up for it. Else I’ll just enter and do the shorter route (80-ish km).

While we are on the topic, who is fairhurst? He was an absolute legend with his videos!

Was richmtbguru actually exposed as that guy making those videos on Youtube? You know, the really talky ones that could use a severe edit?

Not going well for me. Sacked off yesterday’s planned ride because the weather was crap and I just didn’t fancy it.

Tonight I’ll be out to make up for it.

If you want ease of trail centre accessibility or the local woods for a couple of hours blast then Bracknell is good. You can also drive to the Surrey Hills in under an hour, or to Chicksands/Aston Hill in just over an hour if DH, 4X or DJ is your thing.

Also, some really nice road riding round here too. Flat when you want it to be, and hilly when you want to mix it up.

This is a real puzzle to me.

If you own the land outside your house and someone parks in it I can understand getting hacked off about it. If you don’t, then how on earth do you justify this behaviour?

    Flat ones count too!

As someone also trying to learn I demand a video!

I managed 3 pedals strokes last night. Clipped in, full sus, terrified.

Boo, checked them for inflation without a tube and they went up fine. Put some splooge in and reinflated, but they’ve gone down overnight.

The Contis they came with are a very baggy fit. May need a few gos before they seat properly by the looks of it, but doesn’t inspire confidence for when you have to push them hard!

Life is too short for ironing

But what will I do in the time slot allocated to me between brushing teeth and getting dressed instead?

    curiousyellow

Don’t get me wrong. If I had the money and the space then I’d have one of those contraptions too….

…along with someone to iron my clothes in it!

    Pretty impressive gadget.

Not sure what point you’re making robdob, threads you’ve started include asking for advice on mobile phone contracts and timber moisture levels? 🙂

Maybe I should just buy a nice Rowenta and resign myself to having to replace irons every 6 years.

Don’t like how a £40 iron can ruin a £100 shirt with no warning though!

Replacing for what reason? My current iron doesn’t have those features, but trying to descale it has just resulted in a huge mess on the iron and the occasional “oopsie” meaning I can never iron a light coloured shirt in peace!

If the descale function will minimise the problem then I’m happy to pay for it really.

I also want a stainless steel plate thingy.

    Moon on a stick?

EDIT: someone on the internet is on about using de-ionised water for ironing! Is this what life has come to?

    Boo!

It’s not some sort of fancy cartridge based thing is it? I have no idea how those work. I’m guessing it’s like a tea tray arrangement?

(Don’t tell me you haven’t read the manual yet!)

Tilting towards the Bosch! It could be mine before the end of the night!

How good is the anti calc cleaning feature? Used it in anger yet?

EDIT: Also, wouldn’t you rather have a stainless steel plate instead of ceramic? That’s the only thing I’d want to be different.

    curiousyellow

I’m only using it for shirts and the occasional trouser/suit jacket so I don’t need a steam generator.

How is the cord length on the Bosch and the Phillips?

Hence starting the thread here in the interests of gender equality!

I tried the descaler because little brown spots started to appear on my shirts over time. Do modern irons do away with having to do descaling?

    Haven’t seen anything really.

I’m still smarting that the Edge 810 wasn’t a real upgrade over the Edge 800 and they didn’t even bother addressing any of the problems the Edge 800 had, like poor visibility for starters.

I keep thinking about getting a Forerunner 620 for running. I then remember what a disappointment the Edge 800 was and stop reaching for my wallet.

If it could have done Strava without having to piggyback off the phone then I’d be in. Cannot stand forking over £270 for a shitty Garmin watch. Premium price for a poor product.
