Caught a couple of your offs though not brilliantly.

I’d be very interested in seeing these! Especially the couple of times I tried to kneel down in the stream. 🙁

    Very interested in this.

A few years ago I reported something similar. A guy in a car gave me a friendly nudge while I was waiting for a rubbish truck to get out of the way so I could turn right. He threatened assault, I took his plate down and complained to the police.

The letter I got back from the police said they’d interviewed the person who did it. He admitted a “road rage” incident and that was all they could do because there were no witnesses.

TL;DR: Got bumped by a motorist. Complained to cops. Motorist admitted it but cops said nothing doing because there were no witnesses.

I don’t buy the “there’s more important stuff to investigate” excuse if they’re not competent enough to arrest/charge someone who admits to a crime. How exactly is that supposed to happen?

Have you thought about some coaching? Or maybe like some others have said, taking a small break to figure out what you want from racing?

Sometimes it helps just to try something completely different.

Yeah, for some CO2 thingies and some clothes. Very fast delivery.

What is that thing? Looks interesting!

Been three times now (but first time doesn’t count because it was only for a weekend).

Tubeless is a must. I’d not ride with tubes there. First time was a thornfest. Was using Conti Mountain Kings which were pretty good, but I was trying to swap over a Kenda Honey Badger on the last day, just to see if it offered the tiniest bit more traction in the loose stuff. I hate loose stuff. The HB weighs over a kilo, but the Contis are around the same weight. The combo you’re suggesting should work as well as any, if not better. Marco (the guide) seems to prefer high volume tyres with closely spaced knobs. I think he’s running a WTB Breakout and rates it quite highly. His riding is on a different level to us mortals though.

I’m still walking some of the switchbacks, but it gets better every year. You’ll love it! Nothing like that place to gauge progression in your riding.

I can see it costing that much if you want to keep the bike feeling on point all year round.

I’ve got tyres on my hardtail that have been through the mill and would probably need to be replaced. They’ll just go on the SS when they’re no good. Some people may just want new tyres.

Seeing suspension service costs about £150 a pop it’s quite easy to spend £1k a year on maintenance if you stick to the service intervals and are fastidious about fluid replacement and whatnot. No need to give the guy a hard time about it. I know people who spend a few grand a year on nights out/the pub year round. Given the choice between shop servicing or nights on the urine I know which I’d prefer!

Someone more knowledgeable should be along soon, but I thought you only needed the conversion cups if you wanted to use a Shimano BB instead?

I have a BB92 bike which I believe uses an FSA BB? This link may help:

curiousyellow – get someone else to try sending you an email. I’ve sent you one from two different servers/emails (and copied/cut as required/double-checked). Maybe you have an anti-bollocks filter fitted

    mailtocuriousyellow at gmail dot com

Tried it from a couple of accounts I’ve got and it seems fine. Checked Spam and Trash. I’ve not known anything to silently filter e-mail from people.

I even tried copying and pasting what I’ve posted here in case I was spelling my address wrong, but that’s come through as well. Very strange.

I can try and e-mail you if you’re comfortable supplying your address?

What size are you looking for? I’ve got a pair of medium Joint VPD 2.0s I’m considering selling. Been used for 2 rides since purchased!

The guy posting about the perception gap has it! I’ve never thought about it that way.

OP, I’d not sell her the bike. A firm, but gentle explanation that you’re worried she doesn’t trust you, and you don’t want the hassle of that should suffice.

Include directions to the nearest Halfords if you’re feeling generous.

    Also, HHITS!

Edit for bitterness, because that’s a cracking bike she’s getting for the money. Cannot believe that’s what they cost now!

I saw Oli Beckingsale in the queue at Burger king.

I was there too. BEST DAY EVER!

In other news, my mate bought a bike off someone on eBay once. Turned up to his house and it was Rob Warner!

Good news and better news! It’s 104mm BCD and a 32T.

Means I have the option of taking the 30T with me as a backup, but I don’t need to buy a weird BCD chainring.

Tried to measure the BCD, but I can’t get a 100% accurate measurement because of the curve of the spider. Wish I had some Vernier callipers. Perhaps this is an excuse to get some!

I tried the adjacent bolt measurement as well, but I can’t get an accurate enough measurement with a tape measure. I’ll dig the ruler out this afternoon and have a go.

Thanks for the responses so far!

The cranks came on a new bike. It looks like it will take a double, but is set up as a single ring. I’m trying to avoid having to remove the chain guide to have a look because I want to avoid tinkering with it if I don’t have to.

Cheers! How’s the fit? I’ve got some POC ones which fit the bill, but I don’t get on with them fit wise. I think I need some for narrower legs if that makes sense?

Sorry, njee20 has the right answer. Apologies if mine was a bit cheeky.

Training hard does feel good. You feel yourself get fitter. You clean climbs you previously couldn’t, you sprint up hills you used to spin up, your body feels like it’s doing more than what you ever thought it was capable of. You go to new places and feel confident your fitness and skills can handle the unknown.

Now that definitely is worth it.

    E2 front mech?

Like bigjim said, there is some vertical movement. The Shimano manual for it tells you which position to have it in depending on how many teeth there are in the largest chainring if you’re using a double or triple.

Once you get it sorted you may still have trouble getting rid of all the trim in certain gear combinations. You also have to rely on cable tension to sort out the chainline. I still have nightmares thinking about it. Thank goodness for 1x!

This is what I asked myself on Sunday when after a year’s hard training, a years teetotal plus a carbon 29er I managed to come 22nd in the Gorrick 100 compared to last year’s 24th.

Pretty sure 1-21st place didn’t stand still for a year waiting for you to catch up! 🙂

I’ll wind up voting Green. And then get depressed about it.

Love mine. So capable. 34T is a bit much on the front though. Wish they came with a 32 as standard!

Got waved through by a massive truck coming into a narrow lane. Guy smiled and everything and I thought “wow, never expected that, it was his right of way too”.

Then noticed the massive “VOTE UKIP” card on the dash.

I watched the highlights on EuroSport HD and I didn’t see anything at all about Wiggo’s breakaway! How on earth did I miss that?

I kept thinking “why on earth isn’t he trying anything”. All explained now. Anywhere have a decent article summarising the race?

I thought you needed a Data Science degree, or some experience working with Hadoop, or something relevant to processing large data volumes or computations to get into “Big Data”?

Even a DevOps role will need you to be familiar with some programming/operations stuff (Python/Go or Wintel/TCP/IP stuff). Not something you can just switch into on a whim!

Teach them how pedals, gears and brakes work and they’ll likely figure the rest out themselves.

    This.

If this is their first bike with gears then start with gear choice.

Once they’ve sorted that out you can move on to “attack positions”, cornering, bunnyhops and pumping I reckon.

Maybe a bit of trail side repair practice too?

I have RaceFace Turbine cranks. RaceFace site seems to suggest 104BCD which means my Hope 30T should be ok. Should probably measure the BCD to be 100% sure.

So there’s no such thing as an 11 speed chainring?

I have a small POC Trabec. I got it in one of the PSAs, but you may find one of the older models knocking about cheap somewhere.

    Little update.

Kept the pressure at 150psi and messed around with the settings (firm, something in the middle and soft?). The plushest setting properly drops you down and soaks everything up. Maybe more for full on DH tracks I reckon.

The middle setting works well for general riding where you’ll have to pedal a bit. Maybe even the firm setting will be ok for it!

So setting the sag will sort out the going through the travel too quickly issue?

    curiousyellow

Personally I reckon the standards of driving on the roads are failing. This is pretty apparent where I live because it seems indicating is largely optional. Especially at roundabouts when you play “guess where they’ll exit”.

    @sharkattack
Sharp left hander immediately after a loose surface! You have to turn almost at the apex of the corner because the trail leading up to it is cut into a decline so if you turned before the corner you’d just catch your bars. Picture a roofless narrow chamber with rocks and dirt and you’ve got it.

    @chrisdiesel
Does that help firm the shock up?

    curiousyellow

    @hora

I am genuinely interested in knowing if that helped the driver understand why what he did was pointless.

I have a similar situation on the commute. Some motorists race ahead and cut you up just so they can queue less than 100m ahead.

Had some hero have a go at me for daring to be ahead of him when this happened. Gave him a look as I pulled up alongside him, but I felt it was pointless talking to him. People like that usually don’t understand reason.

So, rode it for a few hours and it seems to get quite spongy when I try and turn sharply under braking.

Any ideas how to fix this? More pressure in the shock, or can I slow down the compression using the rebound setting?

It seems to travel through the shock stroke very quickly. So quickly that I thought I’d had a flat!

Seems like it has worked. Tyres are now staying up!
