    Did it using @smatkins1 method! Worked a treat once I committed to it like most things 🙂

    The boot at the opposite end of the trigger is the bit that has come off. Or, are you saying removing the grub screw will detach the whole trigger assembly? Maybe I need to find a video.

    The bits marked 12,13 is where it needs to be reconnected to.

    Cheers @otsdr

    I’d like to save that for a last resort. It seems to hook when I deform the boot/gaiter thingy. I just need to get it to hold the edge as I rotate it somehow.

    I was thinking I could tape up the end of a tester and have a go at refitting it using that.

    Stay in Bristol and go to FoD for the uplift one day. Session Ashton Court, or go to the Mendips for the next?

    HOWEVER…. when did mountain bike riding become all about jumps and hopping everywhere like a demented Rabbit?

    When it became less about defining it as ‘X’ and about having fun? 😛

    I like jumpy stuff, I like techy stuff. It’s just people on bikes having fun right?

    They delivered the baggage to our holiday apartment when we were out, so no recourse to check if it was damaged before taking it.

    Thanks @tenacious_doug. I’ll write a letter to the airline first (complaints have been to the baggage handler by e-mail, and airline via their online contact form – no response from them at all) and then file a complaint with the CAA.

    Does that route take in the whole Blue/Red/Blue? Doesn’t look like what I’d expect it to if it does unless it’s some sort of Garmin inaccuracy.

    Used it a bunch of times all over the world, but have only had one poor experience where the owner was a bit expansive about the condition of the flat. For example, describing having a condenser in a room as “air conditioned flat” and charging us a cleaning fee when he’d not cleaned it in anticipation of our arrival.

    Watch out for seasonal pricing when booking, because the price you see may vary and it is not reflected in the price on the image when you see the listing.

    Complain immediately within the first 24 hours if there’s anything not to your liking. The prices these days (especially in cities) is equal to or more than a decent hotel, but looking on some hosting forums there is a bit of an entitlement mentality amongst some of them.

    I’d definitely use the service again, but I’d not discount hotels and I’d be a lot quicker to complain in the future given the prices.

    Motivation is fickle and fleeting.

    Discipline is knowing that despite this task being distasteful, and unwelcome, you will have to do it to get what you want. So get some discipline instead of motivation.

    Workout always feel better when you’re in them, or once you’re done. They almost always never feel good before you start.

    I think the issue is mortgage companies don’t really want people to take out a big lucrative mortgage then pay 90% of it off after 3-4 months as they are working on the basis you’ll pay them lots of interest for the next 25 years.

    That’s why they have early repayment charges.

    Some Hong Kong shops are now doing collection on warranty. Looking at how many people seem to buy from there with no problems it is pretty tempting, especially if you pay by credit card.

    The majority I see seem to be small, family run business which make you tax efficient because you probably pay your family bugger all to run it.

    I reckon if you live in the right area and have a captive market then there maybe some money in it. If not, then probably not any more than just plonking the capital into a FTSE tracker and waiting 10-20 years on the return.

    I remember thinking I was a certain height all my life. My wife disabused me of that notion on the first night we met. She had to marry me after that seeing as I was devastated.

    Doesn’t sound like not wanting to have kids was the reason you didn’t see that lady again to be honest 🙂

    Some people are a little bit broken. There’s nothing wrong with you not wanting to fix that and holding out for someone who has their life a little bit more together. If you accept it may take time and a lot of effort on your part then it gets easier. Granted, it must be tough to be older and be on your own, especially at the holiday season. Being single is a choice you make though. Own it.

    Its threads like this that make me determined to hang on to my marriage no matter what, I’m not equipped mentally to be able to socialize with new people, let alone the fairer sex, in my 40’s.

    Have you not read about the sunk time fallacy?

    OP, it’s a numbers game. If someone you’re dating exhibits behaviours your uncomfortable with then talk to them about it and see if you can resolve it. If you can’t, then move on. This doesn’t stop being true at any stage of a relationship.

    it wouldn’t be on my first date list of priorities.

    Don’t know. Some people really don’t want to waste their time. Nothing wrong with being straight up with what you want is there?

    I’ll keep it in mind. It’s good to have 2/3 choices in case one of them isn’t available at the time I’m buying or isn’t quite right.

    Speaking of not quite right. How come there is an Accord with under 70000 miles on the clock. The other one I can see is at the same price, but has 30000 miles more on the clock despite being the same age. Is there something spec wise I am not seeing?

    curiousyellow

    Alright, so the Accord is looking like the best option so far.

    Unfortunately French cars are not permitted. I think I will have to go with German, Japanese, or even Korean (Kia) if I can find somewhere close enough with one for sale.

    You have it!

    I think I’ll wind up with either an Accord, BMW or VW to be honest. Nobody seems to have any love for Audis. Or VWs come to think of it. But I have a VW currently and it’s been very reliable.

    I equate “build quality” as something separate to “engine reliability”. Like someone else said though, it doesn’t have to be the engine failing that makes your car a non-runner sometimes.

    Build quality to my mind now is that satisfying “thunk” a door makes when you shut it, or how nice the gearbox feels when you shift. Can’t think of much else to be honest.

    – Estate because it’ll need to carry 2 people + bikes when I’m using it. I don’t want to use roof racks.
    – Mileage estimate around 6000 a year.
    – Journey type. Short journeys in the week (under 10 miles each trip) and 1-2 long journeys of 200 miles plus per month. The above and this reason are why I discounted diesels.

    @stumpy01
    Exactly my feelings regarding the badge. But if it makes the other person driving it more trusting then I’d happily pay 10-15% on top.

    Thank you for that. Some excellent information there!

    @T1000
    Yes, looked at some Volvos, but I have heard they are expensive to replace when things go wrong. How reliable are they?

    @joolsburger
    Will look at Hondas too, thanks!

    @munrobiker
    A Mazda 6 is on the list!

    So I now have:
    3 Series
    Mazda 6
    Accord

    No love for the £1500 Audi then? 🙁 My heart says, buy a cheap German car and run it for a couple of years and get rid. My head says spend a bit more and buy something a little less comfy, but more reliable.

    @matt_outandabout
    Any specifics on figuring out how well it has been looked after? The minimal knowledge I have is to look for full service history, no incidents (cat C,D vehicles?) and that any upcoming maintenance has been done. Should I steer clear of cars that have had some work done, like this Audi?

    @deadkenny
    Choice is completely up to me because I’m footing the bill. I must admit looking at a Subaru Forester for £2k just for the heck of it though!

    @thisisnotaspoon
    That looks interesting. I will add it to my currently very short list. So far, it’s a Passat, or a BMW 3 series including the Mondeo.

    @slowoldman
    Ok. So no modern diesels. That means the 6 year old Passat I was eyeing up is out.

    You’re right, build quality is about more than just safety. However, I thought even some German models had problems with rust? Any in particular I should avoid?

    And noting your other point too. No turbos.

    What is considered high mileage for an estate please? Also, what is the simplest way to find out what maintenance will be required apart from searching for the car and known faults/required maintenance on the internet?
