I’d consider that, but lack of space and cash rule that out 🙁

The head tube and seatpost clamped option looks the best bet. Probably doesn’t add much more stress than a heavier rider.

Sorry, didn’t realise hard tail was an option! Much easier to hit 2K then.

At that price range you’re probably looking at a YT Jeffsy, Canyon or some other direct to buyer brand.

Could probably build something custom if you’re willing to compromise on things like forks I reckon.

How old/heavy does the child have to be for the Mac-ride? My child is not the biggest in the world! They’re sold out, so probably not an option this summer.

I’m thinking about the Hamax as a stop-gap until we can afford a trailer. The problem is figuring out which bike it is ok to attach to. Both our options are fairly lightweight. I saw one person mention the rear triangle deforming over time with the Hamax type seat over time. A bit off putting for me.

My Alpkit Filet and Gilet I reckon. Been through a couple of repairs, for which Alpkit have been brilliant for!

Goodman on Old Jewry if you’re looking for a steak.

Or Burger and Lobster virtually across the street.

Or read the Cheese and Biscuits blog and see what takes your fancy.

It does have that oversized(?) 3T hub flange which scores the fork leg when engaged though!

    Hmmm….

I’ve just bought a Norco Threshold. Beautiful bike, but this story is a bit worrying. Time to make use of their 30 day money back guarantee perhaps?

Also, Evans having exclusive rights to Norcos doesn’t help 🙁

I’d ride them, but keep a spare tube and tyre boot handy. Schwalbes usually let you know they’re unhappy using multiple punctures! Just keep an eye on the wear indicator if there’s one on the tyre. Should be a little dimple somewhere.

2 hours is enough to ride the red and blue. 2:30 if you want to session the nicer reds a bit.

You don’t need a full face. Like someone’s said, the jumps are plenty big if you can jump properly.

Take a little bit of food. Banana, energy bar, and 1-2L of water.

But Cooke ‘worked’ under Sutton first with Wales then BC, so a bit odd to say he suppressed her results.

Semantics I reckon, but I said “oppressed”, not “suppressed” though I think I know where you’re coming from. It seemed like Cooke flourished despite Sutton and co. Who knows? Perhaps their disgusting attitudes fueled her motivation.

People have repeatedly said BC did their best to exclude non-BC funded athletes from competition at no detriment to themselves. Sounds like saving face is what matters to BC, and not results.

In an ideal world we’d celebrate people’s results. I’m yet to hear of privateers in the DH compos get pilloried for their success. People are happy for them. Why do BC feel so insecure about this?

@dragon if he’s paid to get results then fine. Why are multiple allegations surfacing of him trying to oppress people getting good results outside the system (Cooke and Copnall recently)?

Sounds like he’s one of those people for whom it’s not enough for him to win, but you have to lose too. Pretty shameful.

@lunge does it need to be a cutthroat environment? I’m not even sure it is. You only have to look at the successes of people outside of it to for proof.

It sounds more like it’s being run like an old boys club and is very “cliquey”. Every story trashing BC has a common element of them trying to save face by pretty much banning athletes who are outside their system from competing. Why are they so insistent on not allowing self funded athletes to compete if it’s not to save face?

Sport should be about the best athletes having a shot. Ideally with no detriment to the other athletes. BC seem to only want their athletes to have a shot. And even then, only the ones who toe their line.

She has said she’s good enough if you read the FB statement. She mentions her lap times for her position as justification.

She also says BC refused to discuss her data and she was not put on review at any point. So she’s probably pretty surprised at why this has happened too.

From the whole of this debacle, I’m pretty tempted to not renew my BC membership when it lapses. Any alternatives? I only use it for the legal cover these days anyway. The CRC discount is a bonus, but one I’ve only used once in my years of membership.

he can’t push through everything he wants, that’s not how it works.

Well, if the UCI could participate in an industry wide cover up of certain “issues”, then surely championing equal pay and coverage for women is just a question of putting their minds to it? 😛

    Wait what?

So they wear the BC jersey but aren’t funded by the same bodies?

BC’s treatment of women having read Nicole Cooke’s biography does not look good. It doesn’t look good if even half of what she’s saying is true. Some examples:

    – Men with DNFs in the road race given kit and funding while women don’t even get to field a full team.
    – Not being allowed to race in the juniors with the men’s field. The plot about her having to hide in a van so a certain race organiser wouldn’t take umbrage at her being involved in a race was particularly frustrating. Where do these people come from?
    – Sutton’s attitude towards training the women didn’t seem great either according to the biography.

@clodhopper makes a great argument about sexism. Good to read that.

Cooke is very scathing of Cookson’s broken promise re women’s racing as well. It will be interesting to see what he makes of it. I’d firmly discourage any women I know from racing bikes for a living, or setting it as a dream. Far better to be a triathlete/duathlete where women and men seem to get equal billing.

More concerned about how the doubletap works compared to normal shifting. I had a go on a CX1 bike at the weekend. It was nice, but it did miss a shift a couple of times. Trying to figure out if it was user error, or something CX1 suffered from.

So it varies from school to school and depends on the head teacher? Or are there general guidelines on rankings?

In the system I was in, you had a competitive exam in year 5 (at 10 years of age) which was ranked nationally. Even private school children did it because it was considered good practice compared to the national curriculum. There were two exams. Language and mathematics.

Later, you had O/Levels in year 11 (16 years of age) and A/Levels 2 years afterwards. These were all nationally ranked.

Are there any public exams that are ranked nationally before O/Levels or GCSEs (is that the term?).

Personally, I enjoyed the competition. Yes, it meant that I put pressure on myself, not to mention pressure from teachers and parents, but I didn’t consider it a bad thing.

How would this affect picking a school for your children? Currently struggling to figure out how on earth you can judge a school because people (teachers) are saying Ofsted rankings are meaningless?

How did they assess them? Was it for marks in every subject, or a highest place in the school, or did it depend on alumni/school sponsoring the prize? Is it common practice to not have prizes? Sorry, so many questions. It seems weird to be in a school where students aren’t ranked!

This happened to me once. I wished I’d bothered to change tyres when I should have instead of being a cheapskate trying to get the maximum life out of them! Not saying this is what you did by the way.

Does it help to just have the money in cash to cover the shortfall instead?

Can’t comment on the new XTs, but the Guides are quite nice. Only problem for me is I’ve got small hands and the SLX feel a little bit better if my memory doesn’t fail me. May just be a set up issue though.
