Smidge user here. Haven’t been in heavy midge conditions yet but speaking as someone who usually gets eaten alive the result so far are very good, way better than skin so soft for me personally.

Course great, well done to all. Weather a bit sh!te. It would have been good to see a timing screen. More grumpy competitors on the course than other mtb events I have done and not many people saying pass on your left or right, just saying pass or excuse me or nothing at all, which isn’t that helpful. I also heard one marshall saying to someone in front of me that was walking a section, “you can’t be that bad” which whilst probably intended as a joke seemed to have an understandable negative effect. Other marshalls great especially star jump lady at the start of the blue section and all up for some banter. Will prob be back next year and do the mtb and road rides.
Well done to all organisers and trail fairies.

29er or 26er? can’t take both, edging towards the smaller wheels.

It never fails to amaze me the number of people that think teachers are overpaid with too long holidays that when asked if they would do the job themselves, no chance. Many parents I know struggle to cope with their own children let alone a class or classes of 28 from 9am-4pm. No, I’m not a teacher. Bad ones should be found out and either assisted to improve or given the heave, like any other profession. I’m sure all of you do your jobs supremely well and are surrounded by other who also do so. I do however think that you should be able to go straight from university to teacher training, some wider life experience should be a pre-requisite.

It is great viewing. Rained off this morning so far. Currently planning to go in 2012 and take the mtbs with us for the non-race days. I’ve been to the islabd before but not for the racing.

as above and invest in a tick hook and some alcohol wipes or similar.

I am now an ex crc customer for a number of reasons:
    1) ridiculous packaging that won’t fit throught the letter box
    2) slow delivery, road brake blocks took 2.5 weeks
    3) having to argue quite hard after an order didn’t arrive at all, eventually got gift vouchers.
    4) complaints people don’t seem human, do they reply using a drop down list of options?
Doesn’t sound like much but it is quite time consuming and when you look at my spend over the last 5 years…..

4 laps solo til I packed it in, ran out of dry clothes and when I stopped for food just got bloody cold and found it hard to get going again. I never saw anyone ride the whole course, but respect to those to did. Haven’t done it since 2006 but will be back, next time fitter! Congrats to organisers for excellent atmosphere and thanks to whoever put a dent in my van in the car park and fecked off.

Sorry should have said. I’m from scotland so have seen most of the highlands over the years, although I may do an off-raod coast to coast. Just me, no family involved.

Aren’t the tora TKs coil? I’ll let you know in a few days when the new 29er arrives with them on, I’m selling them by the way for some rigids.

I’m with geoffj on this one. It would be interesting to say the least to see a wheechair get up those tracks then back down. We used to walk fairly regularly there but haven’t been back since the ‘improvements’ began. There has already been a local campaign against the tracks with meeting in the birnam hall, all to no avail it seems.

I’m not far from you in dundee and ride similar areas with an alfine (8spd). I do have a P7 ss but only use that for local short bursts.

Privilege – you don’t have to be posh! Beat NFU and Adran Flux, now on my third year with them, renewal sent to me was LESS than last year.

I knew someone would say that 🙂 I used it for the alfine 8 and it was wrong 🙁 Thanks.

On another note, then, anyone want to give me the hub dimensions?

Cloudy but mild here, was far too hot cycling in this morning but it will be shorts on the way home tonight!

10 miles each way, uphill two thirds of the way in means a longer downhill route on the way home. I can’t do it every day as I need the car for work.

Transformer – I guess you mean Transporter? First one was ok, second one a bit guff, Crank was a good laugh and The Mechanic was predicatble and too short. Revolver was cr*p though.

Helmet for My Pillow – Robert Leckie, having just finished With the Old Breed by E B Sledge. Sledge book is superb. Both follow US marine campaigns in the pacific in WWII.

Having done the one at aberfoyle I think it would work well at GT. Will there be enough parking though?

Been there and tried it (3 times), not for me whether ss, rigid, geared etc, so 26ers all the way now.
