A cyclist was killed and her husband seriously injured when they were hit by a car as they holidayed in Scotland to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.

Elaine Dunne, 30, from Leicester, was cycling with her husband Chris when the pair were involved in a crash with a car near John o’ Groats in Caithness.

The couple had been on a week’s camping trip and were cycling back to Wick to catch the night train home after celebrating their first wedding anniversary on September 18.

Mr Dunne remains in intensive care at a hospital in Glasgow after the incident on the A99 at Auckengill on Wednesday.

Mrs Dunne’s sister Pauline Hodkin told STV News she was still in shock and said she was “the best sister you could ever have”. She said the couple were very “adventurous” and loved to travel.

Ms Hodkin also revealed the couple got engaged on the West Highland Way several years ago

The 93-year-old woman driving the car involved in the crash was not badly injured in the incident.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said: “Police inquiries into the collision are on-going and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

I wasn’t, but I might on Sat night as you have planted the seed so to speak. Will see how tooth removal goes tomorrow and take it from there. Can’t help with your routes though.

It can be yes, just enough to allow play. Threadlock is a quick way to test the theory.

Octalink has more in common with a splined square taper system than hollowtech 2

That was my point, thanks for explaing it better 😉

Oh yes. Could take the bus (sometimes do) or the van but cycling is way more enjoyable and a better use of time as it gets travel and some training kncoked off at the same time. The cycle only takes me around 10 mins more than the bus anyway.

He’s got Octalink though, not hollowtech? If you have a spare crank bolt use that, if not I have used the threadlock and it has lasted as long as the bottom bracket. It depends how much play there is in the system.

Thread lock is well worth a go in my experience.

Two and a half weeks from ordering an instock item, then chased them, then two of them arrived a few days later, not sure if it was CRC or the PO.

TJ – so if it’s ok for me to have a dump in the toilet at home I can have a dump in the yoghurt aisle at Sainsburys?

Currently doing 9 miles each way 4 days a week and loving it. Still have enough energy for a longer cycle at the weekend, when I get the time.

We will never know what really happened but that said I think the SC response is pretty p*ss poor, and that in itself would stop me from booking with them. As they say, sh*t happens but it is how you deal with it that makes the difference, in this case it wasn’t exactly great.

Crud roadracers fitted to two bikes and they work great, have also used SKS chromoplastic in the past without issues but sks raceblades are utterly pointless imho.

Probably just a few £ to cover postage. I’ll check 100% it is still on the bookshelf when I get home. Would rather someone used it tbh.

Also had a fantastic cycle in to work, the same yesterday as well, but generally speaking I much prefer spring to autumn. 🙂

TPS has worked well for us but the calls that bug me are the automated ones where you make the effort to answer it and you get there and get some cr*ppy generated message before a human talks to you. I used to get annoyed but now just put the phone down.

I would avoid the statins like the plague unless you have a family history of heart issues. imho

Not just outright levels that count but ratios. Benecol costs a blerdy fortune, tescos own yoghurts drinks for me 😆

There is alo a GP test that looks at chol in relation to other risk factors, worth getting that done as well.

Not an expert at all but currently going through the mortgage maze and from the advice I have had I reckon you would be better with a standard for a few years until you have savings to offset, then revisit it then with a view to offset. Worth chatting to an independent advisor about.

I have had three goes at the 29er bikes over the last 3-4 years:
    1 ss
    1 alfine
    1 normal gears
all have been ridden both with rigid and suspension forks. I only owned one at any given time, gave up on it then had another go at a later date. I have just sold the third attempt, 26 it is for me. I just can’t get on with the 29ers at all.

I bung my rotors and pads in the oven for 5-10 mins at 150 degrees, then turf them straight in to cold water, no ill effects so far and good stoppers.

Shifting under pressure isn’t an issue for me as I don’t do it on a normal geared bike so never do so on the alfine. Punctures are a piece of p*ss to fix, have a few trys in the garage first. 15mm spanner is the real problem as it weighs so much that is slows me down massively 🙄 Just stick it in the camelbak / seat bag with the tube etc
