I know this is gonna sound obvious but with the Mega I would really try and get a ride. I’m just about 5’11 maybe 5’10 and a 1/2 and I have a medium. However i like a smaller frame for the chuckability factor. I have a mate who is the same height and he has a large. When I was running the flat bars that I had on my previous bike (780mm Renthals) I felt that I was too far over the front on steep stuff and drops onto steepish landings I was always a little nose heavy. I was using a 40mm stem so I tried a 60mm one but it didn’t help and changed other stuff about the handling that I didn’t like, everything else already felt perfect. I tried some old riser bars that I had and apart from being too narrow it seemed to cure it, I felt it put my upper body in a more upright postion. Now running the Renthals that have the most rise out of the 3 variations available and have them cut down to 760mm and the bike feels perfect. I think if I was any taller tho I would probably want the large frame. Sorry if that was a bit rambling but I hope it helps. If you’re anywhere near Cumbria you’re welcome to come and take it for a spin

Get these mate, I guarantee you won’t be dissapointed. They dry pretty quick, they just feel like normal trainers and they stick to your pedals like shit to a blanket. I abuse mine and they’ve lasted at least 7 mths now and show no real signs of wear. I ride 4 days a week at least.

My Mrs has a small with 140mm Revs on it. It’s awesome. I’m not allowed to ride it. Apparently I’ll break it.

We have the best postie in the world. He knows I hate trailing round picking up stuff that needs signing for etc so he signs for it and shoves it through our cat flap. Anything that won’t go through the catflap he hides in random dry hiding places round our back garden and leaves a note.

Just another positive review on Neninja’s light. Really good, I got a hope mount for it as I didn’t really trust the o-ring on really rocky stuff. I’ve found that I can angle it up to give me a really good long view a head and there is still enough “bleed”, if that’s the right word, to have the occasional glance down at the front wheel. I certainly wouldn’t want to spend anymore than that on a bar mounted light.

Loughrigg Terrace loop is ok mate but only 60-90 mins depending. Start by climbing up from the road at Underloughrigg and finish by dropping back down to Rydal. Doing it the other way isn’t as good. There are loads of paths up there to explore and there shouldn’t be too many ramblers waving sticks at you this time of year. The basic route is pretty easy to find and print out off the web.

No snow, bits of ice in some puddles and lots of puddles. In fact after today there will be more puddles than lots of puddles. If that makes sense?

Really good mate. It’ll be awesome when it fills out with photos and videos but the info and the way it works is excellent

Rickos you are a legend. I owe you a pint next time you’re in the sunny Lake District in exchange for the £70 you just saved me 😉

those are the codes for £10 off, there was an email saying 10% off but I’ve deleted it and now I can’t remember the code, it’s not UK10 tho. Does anyone else still have it? Please!!

I’m having the same dilema. Killed a set of Lyrik stanchions and now can’t decide what to get between Ti RC3’s and Lyriks. I think buying new full price is whats killing me. I’d like to try the 55’s but I can see me being able to get 2012 Lyriks cheaper and I’ve always been more than happy with them. So now I’m waiting for CRC to get stock in or to find them as cheap elsewhere or for one of my mates that work at a variety of shops to tell me that they have some OEM ones off a new bike that someone wanted to swap. Luckily I’ve borrowed some while I faff…

Something along the lines of “we’re pedaling up a fire road, exactly how accident prone are you? personally I’m fairly confident of staying on my bike.” Alternatively “I’m sorry I can’t quite see your trail police ID, should you not be clearly displaying it?”
I always get rid of my helmet when climbing unless it’s super tech or very uppy downy trail centre stuff. My head gets hot and it’s my head.

Definitely what keppoch said. The “Mast Blast” was a buzz at the end but if I’d have known the rest of it was going to be that pointless I wouldn’t have bothered. What is it with putting “jumps” on uphill bits? I thought maybe it was a 2 way trail at some points. Some fun bits but overall-a bit disappointing.

I had some 5 10 Rennies and like you say they were a nightmare for soaking up water but after a couple of years they finally died the other day and I just got the above today. After the first ride today I can say they are just like wearing a normal skate shoe but with really grippy soles. The soles are thinner and the whole shoe is just way more flexible. I got them pretty wet today so it remains to be seen how quick they dry but they certainly didn’t feel that heavy when I took them off

Grum mine needs the “thigh grip” sometimes too. Not really an issue tho. After it’s been cleaned it doesn’t seem to need it but a couple of wet rides later it seems to revert back. I don’t care, it seems otherwise bomb proof, yeah it looks a bit like someone designed it in their lunch hour but it works very well.

I’m 5’11 and on a medium. I run a 40mm stem and renthal fat bars with the 30mm rise. As boxxer7 said the cock pit is short and when I had flat renthals on it I felt a little too over the front. I also cut my bars down from 780 to 760 to combat this a bit too. I’m happy enough with the shock for now but if I was taking it to the Alps I think it might kill it (the shock) so I would change it for a CCDB too. I’m gonna wait for the air one before I commit to spending the money tho just to see how they compare. As someone else said the frames aren’t the lightest so I would maybe think of putting Lyriks on it rather than Domains, save yourself a little weight, I’ve got 160mm uturns on mine and it feels a perfect match.

DavidTaylforth, are you related to Gillian Taylforth? ‘cos your mouth seems to be full of b$ll$x. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion but it really does make you sound more like an idiot every time you type something.

stripped and rebuilt my DH bike on saturday and replaced a DU bush on the mrs Trance. Rode my Mega at Mabie Sunday and Whinlatter today as all my local stuff is really wet. Nothing on my bike snapped. Discovered that jumping 780mm bars through a 790mm gap concentrates the mind. Awesome weekend.

both really, I was running an older Hope bulb hub and so would’ve needed to change the axle so I could use the 12mm and my rim was pretty goosed tbh. So I did a bit of bloke style justification and came to the conclusion that new wheels were the answer. I’ll sell my old 20mm front one on a pro2 hub and sell my old rear hub on its own. Or maybe I’ll keep them for when I build my hardtail back up eventually. All dependent on the outcome of my credit card statement. Just got back from the alps 3 weeks ago and it’s my daughters birthday in 2 weeks. It could be one of “those” months. I just hope she appreciates a 20mm front wheel wrapped in pretty paper.

I’m currently running a 2.5 minion on the back and its got plenty of room. Thinking of dropping it down to a 2.35 as it’s pretty much had it on the grip front. Thought it was fine till it started raining the other day-scary…
most of the demos seem to be mediums which was good as that was the size I thought I wanted. This is where I got mine from and they have a demo and one silver med frame left https://twelve50bikes.com/shop/NukeProof-Mega-AM-Frame-inc-Rockshox-Monarch-/120
I was also in here the other day and they have a medium demo bike and both black and silver frames in medium, http://yatxp.mhcqu.servertrust.com/Nukeproof_Mega_Frame_Medium_p/gcnmfs.htm

I’ve had mine built for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it.Swapped all the bits from my hardtail over, except I obviously needed a new rear wheel so bought a pair. It felt like “my” bike after about 3 rides. It climbs really well sat down but took a little getting used to balance point wise when I had to stand up an punch it up something (I’m running a 1×9 gearing) but I put that down to my hardtail having a shorter rear end. I’m well used to it now though. Descent wise it’s really quick, it’s easy to find yourself doing familiar descents a lot quicker than you normally do on a hardtail and before you know it corners come up really quick if you have a concentration lapse! It kind of descends nearly as quick as my DH bike but is a lot more lively/twitchy. I haven’t been down an actual DH track yet but I’m taking it to Fort Bill in a few weeks so we’ll find out how it gets on there. Sorry for rambling a bit but I’m quite pleased with it as you may have guessed. If there is one downside it’s a little heavy at 36lbs but that’s the build and not the frame. Having said that I have ridden it probably 10 days out of the last 14 and wouldn’t say it feels heavy to ride.

I wonder why Tom didn’t mention not being allowed on the train in his little book? Glad we managed to get on the train when we did, train driver must have been in a good mood or something.

I was there two weeks ago and got a lunchtime ish tram up from St Gervais, nobody looked particularly interested and the driver helped my missis on with her bike.
To be fair no one asked to see a ticket either…

ChrisE that is not true they take bikes all day on the monorail up from St Gervais. The trail down there from the top of the Prarion is quite good fun, not epic but well worth doing. The only thing that Tom Wilson Norths book doesn’t mention is that the monorail isn’t covered on your lift pass and it costs 15 euro per person. If you ride Les Houches the runs on the front side are really badly shown on the piste map. What they state as VTT trails are all pretty much 4×4 tracks. There are footpaths marked on there, just use them, they are good fun singletrack and no one cares. Watch out you don’t run any goats over tho, they’re everywhere. As you go up the Prarion lift you can see a switchbacky trail under it, do that it’s good fun. Finding the trail head is a little tricky to describe but if you keep your eyes open you’ll spot it. Basically from the top of the lift exit left and go thru the tunnel as you come out the other side start keeping an eye out to your left (downwards!) and you’ll spot what looks like a trail follow it an it will kind of become apparent. Basically there are paths everywhere and they all lead to the bottom.
The Vallorcine DH track at Le Tour is also good fun, pretty full on steep wise and quite tech, but an awesome run.
