If it is waterproof to 10’000mm then it must have a waterproof coating in it which in my mind makes it a waterproof jacket with a softshell face fabric. It will be very sweaty. For me a softshel should not have any membrane as that sacrifices breathability. If you want it waterproof buy a waterproof jacket. A softshell should be splas/shower proof.

Castelli nanoflex, think I had to get a large even for my pipe cleaner arms!

Something like this will be perfect. Light, breathable and water resistant. No membrane so its very breathable. If weather is proper rubbish wear a waterproof Jacket.

If you have a waterproof my advice is to buy the thinnest Softshell you can lay your hands on. Anything else is just too warm most of the time. I have a Mountain Equipment Squall Jacket that I use all the time for skiing, Climbing, Hill bashing. I don’t use it for MTB because its my go to jacket for everything else and don’t want to trash it, but I will buy something similar for MTB.
Avoid anything that has a membrane or insulation etc, a true shoftshell will rely on the fabric being splashproof due to the DWR coating. It will keep a shower off you and reduce the wind getting to you. But because of these they are very breathable and comfortable to wear and most importantly not to warm.

We have a Rangemaster, the hobs and Ovens are very good, but the grill is crap. Its either full blast or hardly on. The difference between max and 1/2 a degree turn down is huge.

Leave your jacket on the radiator to dry it after applying the proofer. Works a treat.

The only answer is to go to a shop and try some on. The best boot in the world will be terrible if it doesn’t fit. Any decent outdoor shop will be able to help you find the boot that fits your feet and is suitable for purpose.

@johndoh, I was thinking Brad Pitt too, agreed on Burn After Reading it is superb. Inglourious Basterds is brilliant too.

He has done his fair share of carp films too though Mr & Mrs Smith being an obvious choice!

Cheers folks, I think Ben has the correct answer, as far as I can tell. All a bit confusing!

If you want some good but short trails that seem really good from my one short visit, try Craig Dunnain on the west of Inverness, looked to be loads there at all levels.

It has been a long time since I was at either but compared to Glentress I would suggest probably not. It all felt pretty easy from memory but Glenlivit was definitely more fun.

Both are quite tame but worth a wee drive too. I would probably go to Glenlivit over Fochabers, there is a new jump track and the views from the red are quite good. Cafe has reopened I think too.

I just bought one of these, Nordisk Halland 2 LW

Although it only has one entry it is a decent spacious porch and the sleeping area is plenty big enough for 2 adults. It weighs 1.5 kg. I think its great.

    I’m 6ft 2 and am on a medium with a 100mm stem. I wouldn’t have any standover clearance if I was on a large.

You must run your seat really low? I am on a large ultimate and I am 6.1 I sat on an xl and it was definitely too big, large is perfect friend is bang on 6 foot and he is on a large and is happy with it.

DI2 is ace as are discs and carbon frames are sweet….

The tubeless thing – so if you’re out 50 miles from home and get a puncture that the sealant won’t seal and need to put a tube in, are you confident you can get the tyre off with small levers then reseated just with a mini pump?

Definitely, have even tried it in the garage to be sure. Yes its not as easy but still not too bad.
DT Swiss rims and Conti GP500 tl tyres.
Making sure the bead of the tyre is sitting in the centre of the rim at its smallest diameter is the key.

I have been running tubeless for the past year and 6000km. I will not go back to tubes. No punctures despite hitting the odd pothole/drain cover that I think would have punctured a tube. It feels better too (might be snake oil). I see no reason why you wouldn’t go tubeless.

I use the simple rule of don’t be a dick which in my mind covers the rules of Scottish access.
So yes you can still walk through a field with lambing sheep just don’t be a dick and keep your distance. Simples.

My wife is a state primary school teacher, her opinion on private schools is that they can be worthwhile for various reasons but make sure you can afford all the extra curricular activities that are expected. Otherwise the child misses out on a lot of opportunities. At least at state school there are less opportunities to miss out on!!

i realise this is not helpful but why would anyone buy a BOX mech/shifter etc?
Any review I read pointed out they were worse and more expensive than the competition ie SRAM/Shimano.
Something would have to be pretty special to tempt me away from the big players and I just can’t work out what BOX components gives you.

When it comes to education I don’t know of any teachers who are happy with the SNP’s handling of it. My wife was a primary teacher (now a tutor). she left because the job has changed so much over the years that it made her ill. Many others in a similar boat it really is a profession in crisis.

Despite that we both still voted SNP in the last election as there is no other option in our minds. Am I pro Indy? Well I am certainly moving that way with the way things are going.

What would be so bad about using the Euro? I often hear it used as a negative against an Indy Scotland joining the EU but just not sure why folk care, would save the hassle of changing currency when going abroad.
Yes we know that wouldn’t have to use the Euro as shown by the 8 other countries in the EU who don’t use the Euro.

I have both and use them both depending on the situation. Through the winter I always use the roof mounted ones and or throw the bike in the boot. I find the bike is more protected from the salty gunk when on the roof so when you arrive to go biking your brakes actually work.
In the summer it depends on how far I am traveling and if the roof rack is on the car or not but generally I prefer the tow bar rack.

Advantages of the tow bar rack is the speed in which it can be attached to the car. 2 bikes can easily be mounted as you just leave the middle of 3 spaces empty, meaning the bikes don’t touch. 3 bikes can be a total pain especially with full sus frames with shocks in the way etc. I find the tow bar rack also significantly reduces fuel consumption too, just not as much as the roof.

No, MTB mechs are not compatible with road shifters from 10 speed onward.

Thanks, thought that the case, what a pain in the arse. SLX 11sp mechs are available so much cheaper.

    Are Shimano MTB Mechs compatible?
Could you use an SLX 11 speed Mech and Cassette and the GRX shifters?

I am running GP5000’s but not the TL version just set them up tubless with stans sealant, they mount easily on my DT-Swiss rims and after 4000km I am yet to puncture. I have hit a few pot holes hard and I am sure I would have punctured a tubed tyre.
It took quite a while for the Stans sealant to clog up the porous side walls on the tyre but now its done i can change tyres quite easily and they hold air well. I pump them up once a week as they do drop pressure slowly.
I will not be going back to tubes on the road.

Just bought the wife the Whyte S120 and I must admit I am a bit envious of her now!
Bang on for your budget, looks to be the ideal trail bike that can do it all.

Get one with a rechargeable battery. i have a petzl one, cost around £50 and is good for everything from walking the dog at night to winter climbing. Not quite good enough for night biking.

Outwith your 30 mile range but this was one of the best days out I had last year.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/2415231489
Fife Coastal path from Forth Bridge to Tay Bridge. 140km mostly off road, couple of errors in our route at Largo to Eilie being the main one, should have stuck to the path more.
    Highly recommend this day out.

I had Lyme disease once a few years ago, took the antibiotics and felt much better. I honestly believe it is nothing to worry about and fully agree with this article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-49998344 a friend of mine is a specialist consultant with infectious diseases and does not believe chronic lyme exists. Take the antibiotics and your son will be fine.
