Audi – fine if you like your suspension made out of bricks! About as comfy as sitting on a spike. No need either as plenty other companies manage fine and still be “sporty”

If you do a bit of research you will see that your issue is very common with the 1.6 turbo. I think its to do with the turbo not getting enough oil. If i were you I would punt it as you can bet that it will happen again.

Search Almax chains, more than £100 but you get what you pay for.

I have a Kryptonite Fuhgettaboutit and it goes round 3 bikes and a wall mounted anchor but only just.

In my opinion Winter tyres should be made mandatory up here in Scotland. Especially on rear wheel drive vehicles and vehicles with wide low profile tyres. Fed up with the roads getting blocked by morons in their Beemers getting stuck because their vehicle is unsuitable for the conditions.
3 times last winter I had to help push a rear wheel drive car up a small incline that others were getting up ok.

Driving to the condintions is fine up to a point but if you haven’t got traction you aint going anywhere.

Just use a hose to wash the worst off then hang them up to dry. Occasionally wash with Nickwax pure soap.

[/quote] What is the best brake set for under £150

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-deore-m615-disc-brake/rp-prod108802

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=50&products_id=200

These brakes are brilliant and not just for the money. As powerful as the xt ones just heavier. Prob best getting new rotors too I would suggest superstar rotors. The whole set up will be less than £100 and much better than tektros.

Also learn to use the front!

I used some on the Ullapool Sportive recently. Had to dive down a ditch 70 miles in! I assume that if you use them regularly you get used to them. But I haven’t used them enough to find out!

People who say you don’t need winter tyres or that its about how you drive have obviously never tried winter tyres. I drove the back roads around Aberdeen last year in the snow, had a few hill starts at junctions that would have been impossible without the winter tyres.

As for the wasting your money arguement? I bought a set of steel wheels for £120 and put the winters on them. My summer tyres now last twice as long as they are only on for half the time. Same the other way round.

As I bought the steels the cost of changing round the wheels is 30 minutes of my time! £140 is much less than my insurance excess so if they save me one wee bash I have saved my money.

Also because I have the winters on I am much happier and able to make it up to the ski resorts. Ignore the negative comments from people who have never tried them!

It was a cool building etc but could you imagine living in it? Not a cosy place at all and the echo in the room would do my head in. A very well built good looking building but not a home IMHO

Just because you have a right to dress like a ninja and ride on a dual carrigeway with only one crappy light to help you be seen doesn’t mean its a good idea. Why would you want to do anything other than make yourself very visible? It doesn’t matter whose fault it is when you get hit by a car while on a bike, the cyclist always comes off worse.

    or chinese lumens 8000

How much would that cost? Is it worth it?

With just the standard upgrade how much brighter does it get?
Do you get a warrenty with the upgrade?

    Thanks

I noticed this with a wheel bearing, once installed correctly there was no play in the wheel. I would assume headsets would be the same. If it feels smooth and doesn’t have play when installed I wouldn’t worry about it.

No i did not plan to shop. 3 of us met there and left 2 cars in the car park and went off climbing for the day. We have done this lots of times but the rules must have changed recently an we never noticed.

There probably are signs but I never saw them.

    Will look at Pepipoo.
    Thanks

To me the whole point of a softshel is that it is not wind and water proof. That is what a hardshell is for. You want a softshell to be more breathable than a hard shell.
Softshells are water resistant usually they have a DWR coating on the fabric that can be “topped-up” over time with washin solutions and tumble drying. Because they are not fully waterproof they are much more breathable resulting in you not getting that damp sweaty feeling inside. If you need it to be fully waterproof by a hardshell and if its cold wear somethig underneath it.

No its a 9 speed chain. Why would that make any difference? There internal sizes are the same.

Pinkbike did what looked like a fairly extensive test with and without a clutch mech and decided that it worked just as well without as with. YMMV.

Hence why I thought it was a good idea

Annoyingly I do think I need a clutch mech or a top guide. (ordered one but it didn’t fit) I am running 9sp atm so thats an expensive upgrade. It was after reading reviews on here that made me think it would work without the clutch. Doesn’t explain why my mates came off as he is running a clutch.
Robinlaidlaw – it was crack cleaner up scolty where it first came off!

Its the Oil Exhibition. It starts today and is on for 2 weeks. You will be lucky to get anything let alone anything for a decent price. Folk are renting out 1 bed flats for £1000 a week during this time!

Scolty is your best spot and from Westhill its easy to get to, you wont spend hours stuck in traffic trying to get there. If you use strava its probably your best bet for finding the trails. There is a detailed map which I will try and find to send to you.

For city driving and 6k a year do not buy the diesel as it will just end up causing you problems. As above look for one in good condition probably the 1.6. Just remember that buying anycar around that price bracket is a gamble.
In general the focus should be a relitively safe bet and if it does go wrong they are cheap to fix.
