My friends x01 cassette lasted 9 months. The alloy 42 tooth ring wore out. An Alloy sprocket can’t be as durable as a steel one. Did he change his chains enough? Maybe not but his 10sp xt cassette certainly lasted way over a year.

A mate of mine was in for a while too, I brought along a caffetiere (sp) a flask of hot water and I brewed up some fresh coffee for him. Only works if your mate likes coffee though!

I applied but haven’t heard yet, does this mean I haven’t got in?

I just pooped in to enquire on the cost. Thought that £25 was too much for what would take 10 mins. So no I did not get it done. Will buy or make my own press instead.

No, but when carrying in a bare frame and purchasing a headset from the shop then getting charged £25 for fitting sounds very expensive.

If you make sure no fluid falls out the button when removing it, you shouldn’t need to bleed it. It will come with instructions on how to fit and really is quite simple.

Ben Cooper- not sure I didn’t ask.

It is £25 just for fitting,no cheaper even if I have removed the old one myself!

I made a fire extinguisher compressor. Took about 10 mins to make and works very well. There is a thread on here on how to make it. Well worth it.

I think all Mavic wheels for the past quite a few years have been 11sp compatible. My 2012 ksyriums are 11 speed. Do you currently run a spacer with your 10 speed? If so you just remove the spacer and 11 speed fits fine.

Reliability will be like all Fords, generally very good. With there being so many of them around there will be some horror stories. Badge snobs will look down on you and try to justify there more expensive purchase but will struggle.

I think the Kuga is based on the Focus chassis which begs the question why buy a Kuga over a Focus? What advantage does being 6 inches higher off the ground have? More drawbacks than advantages in my mind.

A Focus estate is shorter than a Mondeo hatch?
The Focus estate is better for putting bikes in though.

I have fitted my mates bike in my focus estate with both wheels on no bother. His bike is a large BMC Trailfox 150mm travel 29er. I regularly throw my bike in whole -large 650b 160mm etc

More than 1 bike requires the removal of front wheels

    As above!

You are also assuming its taking into account only road cycling. 12-13mph average on an mtb round my local trails would be exceptionally fast. Lucky if we average 7-8mph!

Yeah, its was a good fun week. I would sack it off if the weather was as crap as we had it though. Fine once in that weather but not the experience I was hoping for.
Well worth doing and would be even better in the dry!

Here is the profile of the race http://www.strava.com/activities/172667863
So as you can see there is very little climbing. There is one main climb that really doesn’t take long and a couple of other very short ones. Just hope to hell that you have better weather than I did this year! The mud was far worse than any hill!

The qualifier has no hills that I can recall.

Dry your jacket on the radiator after using the wash in stuff. Heat really helps activate the DWR proofer.
The proofer will slightly affect the breathability but it will not be noticable compared to the other option of having the outer surface properly wetted out. Any jacket that is fully waterproof is not very breathable no matter what the manufactures say.

Trail Rat – yeah you are correct I live along that way. I think we have met at a couple of the mates races before. But yeah would like to pop along some time and have a nosey at your van.
    Cheers

    Cheers Trailrat

My heart says Caddy – cos I like the look etc but the head says you would get a better van for similar money. Just not sure what others are out there that are any good.

Caddy size is about right. Fiesta and Corsa vans would be too small. Basically want a van for chucking bikes in etc. My Focus estate just gets trashed from all the mank going in it and having a small van would solve these issues. We would keep my Focus and swap the missus fiesta for a van.
    Cheers

Cheers for the input. There are many reasons we are thinking of a small van. Even a Caddy Maxi is too big. Don’t worry on the driving advice I have owned and driven vans for years. The only reason for windows in the back is so the missus would happily drive it.
Just mostly looking for which vans to look at.

I have a Rallon and I love it. No experience of the Jekyll so can’t compare.
But I will say that the Rallon Descends like a Demon and pedals back up the hill very well for what it is. Certainly no slower than my Prophet was going by strava times.

Anything with a membrane will not be as breathable as something without gore windstopper is a membrane so no more breathable than other membrane clothing. Your best bet is getting a softshell or pertex jacket with a dwr coating. It will not be fully waterproof but will deal with showers and light rain. It will need washed and reproofed more regularly than a membrane jacket to stay water resistant compared to a membrane jacket. Something like the endurance mt500 Jersey is ideal but many others are available.

Without knowing the exact sizes and locations of the areas that mate to other parts, what you are asking is next to impossible. If you knew the sizes modelling it up would be quite easy.
Also with respect to the part you want to improve, are you sure it wont foul other parts of the bike while it rotates?

Raceface D30 ones are awesome. Cant remember the exact name but they velcro on and off without the need to pull them over shoes etc

xcretro – you have no chance. They will replace or refund the cassette and if you are lucky they will give you a gift voucher or discount code. Which is all that you can possibly expect.
CRC are not at fault its the quality control at Shimano that made the cassette. Do you think that CRC inspect every item they sell? By your theory they should be! But then there prices would rise and no-one would use them.

    cultsdave

If they are so awful why do you use them? There are no shortage of other online retailers. I personally have never had any issues with them either.

Tinybits- th 6c you refer to is different to the e6 6c mentioned above. That route he solos is prob around 7b+ to 7c+ sport grade wise. Pretty much impossible to compare to an indoor route though.

I can’t believe there is so much negativity, yeah it was wet and muddy but it was a quality good fun weekend. Scotland in October, what did you expect?

Still struggling to see the benefits of 11 speed over 9 here!

The main benefit that is even noticeable between 10 and 11 speed is the jump between gears. My winter bike has 11-28 10 speed cassette (hilly here) and the nice bike has 11-28 11 speed cassette. I find that on the winter bike the jump between gears can be a bit large. This does not happen on the nice bike as the 11 speed cassette is basically the same as an 11-25 10 speed but with the added bonus of a 28 tooth bail out gear.

The women race 1st on the Saturday then its the 1st losers of the mens race. You don’t really want to aim for racing on the Sat as the snow will have softened by then and the women will have cut it up making the snow section a bit poop. You would still get the Mega experience though.

Jaffejoffer – What you are suggesting is not possible. The Qualifying race is on the Friday and ideally you want a few days practice on it before you try and charge down with 130 other riders. Depending on where you qualify you could be racing on the Saturday. You would not be able to practice the course on the Saturday even if you had qualified for Sundays race as it is being used.

I did it this year and was very glad for the practice on the qualifying track. The weather was rubbish all week so knowing the course was a good advantage. Learning some good lines really helped me qualify for the main event as I started the qualifying race right at the back.
