steer clear of 2nd hand Fords the ecoboost engines have a habit of going boom

Don’t think they do. the 2.3 in the RS has issues with the head gasket . The 1.0 had an issue to do with coolant but as far as I am aware they have been sorted and the engine is meant to be reliable.

I currently have a 1.0 Fiesta 125 as a courtesy car and it is good fun, nippy especially when you get past 4500 rpm.

Sounds cool too, not much use as a bikers car though.

I had the first generation with 650b wheels, great when it worked but sadly the main pivot bearings were too small and broke all the time even if I bought expensive ones. The BOS was unreliable too. The bike became a running joke between myself and friends. Glad to see the back of it unfortunately. Mine may have been a Friday afternoon job! Hopefully the new ones are better, certainly look good.

We just renewed ours with AA, Good price and good cover for bikes in the Garage. For a bit extra you can cover for your bikes Europe wide. Worth a look. Pedalcover did not reply to our inquiry.

My parents retired out to France https://goo.gl/maps/BeFNDbfrS8U2

They are loving it and will definitely not be coming back to the uk. They enjoy a great lifestyle out there and have met many friends some French, some British. Flights are cheap and easy from Pau Toulouse or Lourdes.

    Do it!

I just saw grey clothing with a picture on it, can’t tell the quality from the website but to me they don’t look the best.

Can’t you offer a more exciting range of colour options? Personally I wouldn’t buy grey clothes.

Good luck, I hope it works for you.

I have a Bird and went with the standard Cane Creek offering at the time. The bearings lasted no time and I ended up replacing the whole thing with a Hope one. Not sure on the quality of the Bird own brand though.

I would go Hope for the brakes too.

Just trying to choose the shock now, RT Vs RT3

One thing to note on my Aeris 145 size large I can only just fit a small water bottle in the frame as the shock piggy back gets in the way.

Really struggling to see the hate in this. If you want to ride with a pack crack on no one is stopping you.

If you prefer to not ride with a pack here is a solution to carrying a multi tool.

I have the one up EDC there is a tube strapped to my bike and the pump lives there all the time. Means that all I have to grab is the water bottle and away I go. I used to take a pack and still do on longer rides where you need more food jackets etc, but as the majority of my rides are sub 2 hours there is no need.

At the  end of the day I prefer riding without a pack bouncing around all over the place, it just feels better. Others disagree hence why they are happy with their bags, end of.

I went from a MK 2 Focus to a Mk 4 Mondeo. The mondeo is a nicer smoother car in many ways but despite being way bigger inside it is not as easy to get a bike in and I think that might be the same between the mk3 and 4 mondeo. Its due to the height of the opening of the boot. The mk 4 opening is not as tall. Still possible to get one in wheels on just not as easy.

I haven’t used Fox Forks for years so can’t comment on them.

What I do know is that Rock Shox are easily serviceable, there are tutorial videos and full instructions on the Sram website and from first hand experience their products are easy to work on.

Backcountry Navigator. Well worth 10.99 all the maps you could need. Just download to your phone and off you go. Currently I am in Norway and I downloaded their maps at no extra cost. All others in groups paid extra for worse maps.

I just bought the Lezyne Overdrive pump but it has not arrived yet. Previous Lezyne pumps I have had have been great so can’t see why this would be any different. Goes up to 60 psi.

I don’t have the patience for it. Did one bike using 3M helitape thin stuff bought off Ebay and it looks ok, with more patience you could do a better job and I imagine with the pre cut invisiframe stuff it would look better. For my new bike I got Bird to send the frame straight to Invisiframe and got them to do it and it is so much better, hardly even notice its there. I did my own forks using the pre-cut invisiframe stuff and while its fine its not as good as the professionally applied stuff.
If you have the patience to do it properly then go for it otherwise worth sending it off IMHO.

Thanks folks, not sure its helped me make up my mind! Part of me is tempted to sell as I have maid a decent sum on what I have paid in and that removes the risk but carry on with the scheme as its basically free money.

My original plan was to leave it in for 5 years (4 to go) then pay off a chunk of mortgage when the fixed deal comes to an end. Could still do this but with the cash in a savings account instead.

Whats the dividend like for Schlum?

I have no idea, I don’t really know what a dividend is!
I only started this as it seemed like a good idea and would help me save some cash. But I am totally clueless when it comes to this sort of thing as you can tell.

I have already paid income tax on the money used to buy the shares. If I sell before five years would I have to pay income tax on the profit?

Get thee to Decathlon, many varieties of such jacket and lovely prices too.

I found the cut and fit of their jackets unsuitable.

We just did this, we got our designed at B&Q which gave us the basic layout we wanted. Then using their software I changed it around quite a bit.
Eventually we went with http://www.diy-kitchens.com and I drew the layout using CAD at work. Working out all the bits you needed was quite tricky but they double checked everything for us and suggested a couple of ideas.
The quality of the stuff from DIY Kitchens was superb for the money. We got a joiner to fit it as part of our extension/renovations and he thought the quality was great. The price was similar to a bog standard B&Q kitchen but much better in my opinion.

None of those have 3 genuine as in separate seats in the back. They will seat 3 with seat belts but even the biggest (Fabia) would be uncomfortable with 3 adults.
I would buy the Fabia out of that choice
Would actually buy a Focus though.

Good idea to knot the rope down from whatever device you are using, stops you falling off the end in case the device you are using slips. If doing what your picture shows I would use a Grigri as that’s what I own and am familiar with. There will be devices more suited to what you want.

    Petzl Shunt

A Grigri is a belay device and is not an auto lock device, as you must keep your hand on the dead end of the rope for it to work properly.

We did some checks, contacted a previous customer who was nearly finished and they were quite happy too, although they too were waiting on windows.

Like I say it all turned out well in the end. Some photos can be found on the link below. There is a mixture of extensions in the album but mine is the one with the decking (done by me) out the back and should be the first photo that appears.

Just thought I would update on this.

I read the first few replies to this at the time and after having a good feeling after meeting with Andy Forsyth we decided to go with them. Had I read the rest of the replies I am not sure would would have, but I am glad we did.

The job was completed to a good standard by people who clearly cared for their work and work hard. There was a substantial delay mostly due to issues with the windows and lack of resources.

At the end of the day we are pleased with the result and the cost despite adding a few extras was still far below what others had quoted.

I mentioned this thread to Andy and he seemed to think he knew was giving his company negative reviews, he didn’t go into his side of the story other than to say there are some people who are never happy.
Scrappydave, MW1979 & Irvine are all new users of this site who seem to have set up profiles just to comment on this thread which to me arouses a bit of suspicion.

Anyway just wanted to end this thread by saying the work we got done was to a good standard at a good price, it just took longer than we hoped.

I just bought a new kitchen from here http://www.diy-kitchens.com/
Spent quite a lot of time designing it myself, htey have loads of different sizes and shapes of cupboard so you should be able to fit plent of storage options withing a small room.
The quality of the units was very good and the price was similar to B&Q.

One bike I bought bits myself and stuck them on. They do the job but look crap as the edges were not nearly as neat as the invisiframe stuff. For my new bike I got the guys at Bird to send the frame to Invisiframe to cover it before they built the bike. Although expensive, it looks really neat and none is peeling off after 4 months of riding. Yes it is expensive but I am glad I got it done and they have done a way better job than I could have been bothered to do myself.

The interiors in my opinion of the vauxhall look horrible. I prefer the Focus and my one gave me 60,000 trouble free miles when I had it. Sure many people will have had similar with Astras. If it was me I would go Focus as I prefer them. No real help from me!

My bike came with 800’s found them too wide and cut them to 780’s. Kept clipping trees etc and found no benefit over having them at 780’s. I am 6-2 with long arms and ride “Enduro”!! Also have a 30mm stem.

You don’t need a the tool as a 1.5in bearing race fits and allows you to click it into place.
