Saying that moderate drug use leads to addiction and mental illness is like saying having a glass of wine will lead you into being an alcoholic

It depends on someones personality more, If you have an addictive personality then you are more likely to have your life ruined by either.

have to say though, a few comments on here have been rather boastful of the amount of drugs consumed. While you may have done it, don't boast about it, thats like boasting how badly you did at life.

    I'm 100% drug free.
I used to dink beer and fizz. Gave up wine a few years ago and now don't bother at all.
Of course I'm a non smoker.
    Never even tried anything else.

hmmm, used to do coke*, but grew out of it around 13 years old, never touched booze, or drugs of any sort. 15 years old now though, but I dont plan on touching any of that shit.

Yes there was a bit of portage on the TDMB – although I can't remember where off hand. Truely epic adventure with some great riding and views. I think there is an article in an old STW. To truely ride it of course you need to miss the lift at the beginning and the train at the end!

I know the route, I walked It a year ago, and i agree, taking the train and the lift at the beginning negates any achievement on those days! This has got me seriously thinking about what to do in my summer break before Uni.

whistler or MT. Blanc. Mt. blanc is winning atm!

    Ultimate deterrent for murder

The problem with 'unlawfull killing' is that it encompasses a vast scope of circumstances. What would you do with the woman that has been systematically abused over may years by her husband, who suddenly 'snaps' and stabs her husband to death? Hanging or somesuch would hardly be a deterrent to her…

    exactly my thoughts….

I said yes earlier, But not to all murder, and I know this would be hard to enforce, but people like an abused woman snapping and killing her husband shouldn't be fully punished, as they are unlikely to be as dangerous to the public and a serial killer etc. very hard to enforce, and, of course, each case is different, and never open/closed.

i sort of get what your saying, but if its nice weather I do prefer to actually go out and ride.

STMag wins every time for me. I cant stand the adverts in MBUK, and the photography annoys me.

I like the more Xc orientated basis of ST compared to the MBUK "if it ain't DH it ain't cool" attitude

death does stop re-offending, there are cases of rapist going into prison, coming out and re-offending, so why can't that be the same for murderers? I just can't think of a case off the top of my head.

anyway, can we have another senario… (and this one has a basis in fact :?)

man walks into YOUR(hypothetical, dont worry 8O)childs school, kills children, and gets arrested.

Why waste resources in letting him live out a life in prison, when there is conclusive proof that he has murdered lots of people? Why not inject him with "the lethal injection" and do it the humane way.

Senario : Man locks his daughter in his basement and rapes her, and imprisons the offspring for (i believe 17years?) … SO: Joseph Fritzel. Should he have been hanged?

Cullen bay – what a load of twaddle. I have been inside prisons and they are extremely unpleasant places to be.

FFS, Read the post, what did I say at the end of it, I said that I didnt know the actual living conditions, just some pics from the news one day. It was probably a free air prison i saw pics of anyway.

Pictures are hung. Criminals (and innocents in some cases) are HANGED.

my god I can't believe I said hung…. thats what happens I suppose after a weeks worth of being thrown into exam halls…

EDIT: agree with that jim, you cant say sorry to someone after they are dead, but Its the tax payers that have to fund the prisons
I also head that some people murder to get back inside prison so that they dont have to worry about paying bills, they just live inside….

yes, for somethings, people would be less keen to murder if they knew they would be hung.

Yes that's why there are no murders in the US.

grumm, I said LESS KEEN, for goodness sake stop just jumping down someones throat, It was just an opinion.

people would be less keen to murder if they knew they would be hung.

Sorry, but that's completely not true.

Im sorry, but My only knowledge of this was 1 year ago, some figures I saw in an R.E class, so they were probably wrong. Im just imagining that death would seem like more of a deterent to some doped up 18year old with a knife than the 30 years(?) he would probably spend atm

yes, for somethings, people would be less keen to murder if they knew they would be hung. However, the guilty person should a) admit to being guilty or b) have conclusive evidence to show that they are guilty. c) should not have been a provoked murder. so that narrows it down to about 99.99% of crimes committed in the UK?
