old/buspass comments – surely depends where you come from. For instance the average age of a grandfather in Sheffield is 29.
    Congrats all the same

i have a plan B ready aswell TJ

seriously, we've had another dump of snow in the last few hours, another few inches of snow all the way round the puffer. looks set to be bad conditions, no matter what happens now. if this doesnt melt, then we have the challenge of around 15inches of snow (by now). if it does thaw, and the ground thaws in the next two weeks, then we have MUD. =) its gonna be epic though…

woohoo! 4-5 degrees on the run up to the puffer? looks like were in for a lot of mud…. NOOO!

and another update: in the last two days another 4 or 5 inches has fallen up on the course… this is bad, peoples.

I can't remember when something broke or fell apart on my normal civvy clothing so am I expecting too much for the cycling stuff to last more that a year?

my cycling clothing IS my civvy clothing… 😀

adrenaline rush that you get by going fast…

the achievement that you feel when you've trained hard and the previously long and tiring firetrack is a piece of cake.

RACING! best thing about XC is racing it.

use the 19, its better to spin at a high cadence for 24 hours than lose the spring in your legs on the first climb.

if the snow hasn't melted before the puffer then were taking shovels, Quads and a JCB up to clear it. As Goan said, the only worry is car parking…

driving conditions right now are fine, no midges-its winter, doubt it will be called off, and chipbutty- are you the guy we raced at Ten more at moray? or was that a different Mike? did you come out on a shop ride in the summer? i think it was you….

anyway, looks set to be just as exciting this year. has to be said im hoping for sheet ice, sorry guys =)

Fair enough, best to be prepared for any conditions… looking like it will be cold the week before the puffer with not much rain/snow, so summer tyres may get taken out…
EDIT: i dont know why im even fretting, i live 5 minutes away from the event…. its not like i cant just nip back for spares…

TJ, i hate to say it, but those would be just as pants as my schwalbe ice spikers (same type of tyre) in our present conditions..

If the course is Sheet ice up the firetracks, the schwalbe ice spiker type things are best, if it is deep snow like it is right now, trailrakers, or medusas or any proper mud tyre.

if conditions are like it is right now, trail rat, they dont work at all. the best tyres right now are Trailrakery type things, all out full mud tyres

SLX have them also, but tbh, black insulation tape works fine…. doesnt affect shifting, but they are wrecked fairly quickly from grit and water ingress.

what time, could meet up? i got the firetrack ones, but i didnt realise it was the river walk,
il be doing 2-3 laps tomorrow, i havent been out on the bike for a couple of days so im going to try and make up for lost training…

P.s those tyre tracks were made by the logging trucks that are currently running up and down the firetracks, for people that werent aware….

EDIT: chipbutty, i probably know you if you are a regular in squarewheels. (im the saturday boy) Bert and dougie's mate?
