    Where?

    Never heard of it…

Couldn’t find it on the tube map but I think it might be on the circle line 😉

According to BBC website Oslo daytime maximums below -10°C and down to -17°C at night.

Was quite a few years ago when i went. I remember paying the equivalent of £5 for a bus ride from the airport when we arrived then being told we were at our stop only a few mins later!

The city made a good impression, i remember it was much cleaner than British cities (or British countryside) and the nightlife near the waterfront was good 🙂

Nice part of the world to come from Hairychested.

The latest issue of Singletrack has an article about riding in the Bieszczady mountains in Ukraine. This range also continues into south-east Poland so this could be another option for you. However i am told there are still wolves and bears living there. I am sure Hairychested could advise you further on this.

I have also been walking in the High Tatras near Zakopane on rocky trails that would have been awesome to ride but, sadly, i think they were for hikers only. The locals were riding them on quad bikes but I think this was more to do with it being part of their job rather than any recreational activities 😉

I was in the Karkonosze mountains (Polish / Czech border) back in October.

I was in a town in Poland called Szklarska Poreba and there were about a dozen waymarked cycling trails adding up to about 500km. The areas I rode were mainly forest fire roads but I was informed there was a range of technical levels.

Apparently on the Czech side of the Karkonosze national park the network is more extensive.

Here are a few photos from the trip

Havn’t read the book but saw the flying Scotsman film. Thought it was well worth the watch. It looks like the authorities really had it in for Obree.

It’s those rides where you get part way through, look round and the scenery/location take your breath away.Sure you must know what I mean.
    Any more suggestions welcome

Sligahan loop on Skye pretty much had that effect on me.

Enjoyed a good ride out in the cheviots also, taking in usway burn.

It was warm enough to have a sweat on out in the peak today except for the last bit when I rode back near Stanedge pole at about 4pm. Then it was a sub zero whiteout with horizontal snow and strong gusting winds 😀

Nice picture. I also pass a castle on my commute but it is little more than a crumbling wall these days.

Bit of a grim commuting week for me so far. Wet and muddy on many parts, farm lanes in a bit of a mess and drivetrain regularly coverered in cack.

Also with the vegetation dying back the full extent of the littering and fly-tipping that is taking place these days is shamefully evident.

Thanks for the tips southlakes. I will keep the Forest of Bowland in mind as a contender for the next time i can manage to get away for a few days riding. 🙂

Looks like a good ride. Part of the world I am still yet to visit.

Whether they would build the turbines amongst the trees or remove large areas of forest to enable them to build it would be interesting to know

I’m no expert but i imagine a wind turbine sheltered by trees isn’t going to generate much electricity. Chopping down alot of trees seems like a funny way to tackle climiate change.

Very observant steveh, both locations near Stanage as you said.

It’s a pity there aren’t more winter days like that here, didn’t even have to bother cleaning the bike afterwards 😀

they didn’t help me much when the hedges are cut back. 4 punctures in 2 weeks meant alot of late arrivals at work 🙁

After spending a fair while converting this to SS on only the 2nd ride i snapped 2 chain ring bolts and twisted the surly chainring 🙁

Add to that the drivetrain on my geared bike packing up, it has been frustrating.

If you come with me to the edge of the field, I will show you how we make it so creamy 😉
