There's one of those 'laws' about punctures I reckon, it's like toast landing butter side down when you drop it. Punctures always occur either when you are either late or it's pissing down or both! 😉

I'd always assumed (possibly wrongly) that Cycling Plus was based in Bristol?

Turning their anger onto police officers they acted with, at times, extreme violence and their actions led to injuries to police officers, protesters and members of the public.

From the times article…which then lists the injuries as a Policeman with a broken finger, another who was bitten by a police dog (who clearly got confused as to whose side he was on!) and 4 others who it suggests were all there representing Unite Against Facism…sounds extreme.

No surprise though is it right wing thugs protected by state funded right wing thugs, reported by a right wing press.

My 10 cents to this is I sat down in the shop the other day and tried to read an old copy of Dirt Magazine…and I actually couldn't. I couldn't work out where the ads stopped and the articles started!! So I ended up just flicking through it and looking at the pictures…I prefer a lightweight mag I can read than that!

Don't they have to wait at least a year to dump them or can they have a post-election budget immeadiately if they win and undo this one?

Quite a lot of those are 'anti-speeding' ads I think…how many of you would never drink and drive but routinely drive over the speed limit? (worth a thought, myself included)

I think the blue/red/black elements next to each other in the same trail is a good idea, as a definite 'novice' who tends to ride with people way above my skill level.

That way you don't feel like you are holding people up if they have to wait for you to walk elements you can't ride or forcing them to ride trails too easy for them.

@wrightson I had assumed there was an element/factor for links between the substance and violence/crime in the score. Alcohol would score more highly for that than tobacco as far as I am aware.

For all the efficiency you may gain going up with SPD's if you then feel less comfortable going down (which is often cited by people as a reason for not using SPDs) and therefore go slower on the downhill section, over the whole ride it's not going to gain you any time/speed…personal choice imho.

    Off topic though! 😉

Not sure I'd be looking to buy property right now, especially not BTL (there's way too many properties for rent out there already IMO)

But as he has a large chunck of capital and therefore small mortgage to cover he could charge a very competitive rent which would mean he could get tenants easily.

Most places that are to rent and sitting empty are doing so because they want stupid money for shite and not prepared to take lower offers. If he bought to let and went through a letting agency some do guaranteed rents as well which would minimise the risk.

Yes there is the issue with maintenance though for residential lettings, he should buy the house for sale two doors down from mine and rent it to me at a reduced rate on the condition I fix anything that breaks. 😉

Steroids are apparently legal to buy but illegal to sell in the UK. You can get them on prescription as well for certain things.

Okay it was a sweeping generalisation based on my recent move from Yorkshire to Worcestershire and past experiences…but there are quite extreme regional variations.

Stevious is this is a big or small retailer?

@stevious I think the point I was trying to make (very badly) is that they may not be in a fiscal position to have the same attitude.

Also you may have got the monkey, ask to speak to the organ grinder. 😉

FarmerJohn you're not totally right…the tax has increased but so has the 'non-tax' element.

Also does anyone know why there fuel is always cheaper in the North?

You are allowed to claim petrol etc if you are out of pocket returning things I have done it .I Checked with trading standards first

Really? You learn something new every day…anyone know if there is a similar provision for returns postage in the 'distance selling' rules?

They didn't provide a decent service so yes be annoyed but conversely if they are a small retailer then it may have been an honest mistake and they may not have the staff/systems in place to keep you as informed as perhaps you would like.

I'm not sure where the concept of being compensated for inconvenience comes from though, if you bought something from a supermarket that was faulty or off and took it back would you ask them to pay for your petrol/travel or give you something extra when you took it back? Sometimes companies do compensate you to try to keep your custom but that is at they're discretion and they obviously make a call as to whether it is cost effective/affordable…it seems people almost expect it these days.

Isn't Spooky still around today or do I need to read up on my mtb history? Or are we talking about that particular model?

If the ratio is always 2:3 surely then to work out the length of the sides, divide the area by 6 to give you a number 'a'.

One side will be 2 x the square root of 'a' the other will be 3 x the square root of 'a'.

In your example above a = 1 so square root of a also = 1, but it should work for any size rectangle that is of the ratio 2:3…I think…seems logical to me.

    e.g. area = 24, then 24/6 = 4, so one side is 2 x 2 = 4 and the other is 3 x 2 = 6.
