Worth noting in my opinion that this isn't a new phenomenon (therefore not due to video nasties?). The wikipedia entry on Child murder, highlights that child on child murder/violence is relatively common and lists Mary Bell as an example (1968) as well as the image from 1748 Newgate Calendar.

Desmond in Geography from Durham, use of degree since uni = zero.

Since then I've gained an NVQ at one point in providing Energy Efficiency Advice and passed my ITIL v3. qualification in Release, Control and Validation. So I used to know a lot about Energy saving lightbulbs and cavity wall insulation and now I just know how to wind up 'techies'. 😉

I'm working to "Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Shake the Sheets" currently.

I found myself very productive whilst listening to "Strife – In This Defiance" the other day though. 🙂

If you're in Leeds and want to deal with someone in person Spa Cycles in Harrogate will do you a decent set of wheels on Sputniks. Just get the train up.

If you've got a keyboard, monitor and mouse with your current PC why not get a Mac Mini[/url]? Cheaper than a 'full' mac but gives you the benefits and enables you to reuse some of your existing hardware.

And the alternative is what? …better?

A lot of landlord/agents give you 2 months notice as a standard practice at the end of your tenancy and then say if you want to stay you need to sign another AST (and charge you a fee) which is I assume what has happened in this case. Is that allowed, or if the same tenant stays on in the same property does if have to move to a month by month?

Agree with rockthreegozy Polar buff is good in winter but too hot for the rest of year. Standard buff is good to keep warm when it's cold and also keep the sun off of your head/neck when it's hot (mine was invaluable when I marshalled at the weekender last year!)

In terms of operation I don't think changing the chainline if you remove the granny ring will make that much difference.

Double's tend to have a shorter bottom bracket axle than triples (Taking Stronglight road chainsets as an example recommended lengths for a double = 107mm, triple = 110mm). So you could measure the old one and then go slightly smaller for a better chainline but there is a risk that your chainset will be too close to the chainstay.

    What cranks are they?

Is it a single ring or double/triple?

I just can't get the spring tension on my front CR720's to balance and I appear to have rounded off one of the adjusting screws. 🙁

At that price depending on the details of premises/tools/current stock I'd be tempted.

I am assume as it's an existing business you wouldn't have that much trouble opening accounts with suppliers too.

Need to remember that you are making a commitment to the rent (£6000) for one year though.

Unscrew the broken bit out of the nipple, keep the nipple in place. Thread new spoke through and re-tension? It'd be fiddly but I'm sure you can do it.

Most spokes break at the bend don't they?

    Pretty dumb tattoo though.

@pjbarton …that one made me shout at the telly. I hate stuff like that (mouse gestures?) if I want a window to be a particular size I'll make it a particular size!! 😉

…Earth's activity is due to solar/lunar tidal flexing

This plays a large part (mainly influenced by the Moon) so…

    bingo!

Isn't that theory currently out of favour/disproved?

Google 'mid ocean ridge spreading' and 'subduction zones' for reasons why tectonic plates are moving

Further proof that in 9 years I have completely forgotten most of my degree!! 😯

Is the earth cooling over time and therefore the flow of the mantle is due to the temperature gradient between the cool crust and the hot centre?

    (this is a total guess)

The internet tells me that Earth is the only planet in our solar system with currently active tectonic activity.

    http://www.sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html is ok.

I found the wheelbuilding bit in "Zinn and the art of road bike maintenance" really good and easy to follow, but that's a £15 book…not sure if there is a similar chapter in the mountain bike version

I might have to check out this wheelpro book though as everyone raves about it. 🙂

might be of use…the reviews always include sample shots to help you weigh up the performance.

Also is it Panasonic Lumix cameras that have a really fast 'start up' time (from turning it on to being able to shoot), might be worth considering that…

Correct me if I'm wrong but in the past there seemed to be less 'shops' and 'professionals' selling on ebay and consequently there was a decent second hand bargain to be had. These days especially when it comes to electronics you have to sift through so much 'new' stuff at 'normal' prices it's not worth the hassle.

Surely the entrance to most petrol stations is big enough that you could have driven round him and picked a pump? I've never seen one that is a single car width.

I missed a train connection once from Croydon to Forest Hill once and had to get a bus from Norwood Junction the rest of the way. The 8 year old with a bleeding head wound who offered me a joint and then started smoking crack from a coke can was an 'interesting' character. 😉

MiNewt Mini Usb making me feel safer on the commute already and currently charging next to me.

A Howies merino top/base layer which is really nice.

Some socks with cycle logos on them.

…and a small puncture repair kit with a multi-tool in a little denim pouch you can affix to a belt or seatpost.

Thanks Steve, the girlfriends parents live in Bromsgrove so I know it pretty well.

I think Hardtails is where it's best to start…I'll email you once I've moved and got sorted. 🙂

Climbing (i.e. a 'hilly bit') is definitely where I need to test them out because I just felt really cramped on the Charge.
