Based on the way that works the cyclist in the mirror should have been much much smaller!

Agree a 'more realistic situation' would have worked as well if not better…e.g someone driving to the supermarket, or the kids to school or to work. The things that were 'big' would just have been different.

There is one on the Sheldon Brown site which I always though was more experience based rather than being HSE based.

    Here -> http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

Actually that's the same chart as the Schwalbe one…realised it's by someone from Stuttgart University.

To answer the OP, I've no experience of this but the chart suggests you should be alright! 😉

It's okay China is stockpiling the stuff so you can get your cheap components.

Pay in the bike business is quite low isn't it?

Yes, but it's low in the 'retail' sector in general.

    You want 3/32.

Someone more eloquent can explain why.

    On a connected note.

How much different does a mm make?

For my wheelbuild I come out with 284mm and 285mm for the spokes, seeing as most companies do spokes in 2mm increments will I get away with 32 284mm spokes?

General consensus is your arms 'about shoulder width apart'.

I'm pretty sure there is a formula for working it out but I can't find it currently.

I guess you just have to really go with your heart and do what you feel is right for you, and if it doesn't work out, it is not the end of the world. Not everything in life always goes according to plan, but if you have a dream that will get you through the low points.

+1 for this…even if that dream changes over time (which it may)

Erm…go to the websites of said bike manufacturers, find local dealers from said website, contact them to see if they have a 'demo' bike?

e.g. maybe G.A. Cycles may have a '5' demo bike as they are an Orange dealer in Southampton?

or even better for the Santa Cruz http://www.santacruzbikes.co.uk/dealers.asp?id=3

You might have to go to Pangbourne, Poole or Brighton for the Cotic. http://www.cotic.co.uk/dealers/

I bank with Smile, seem fine to me but I've not used another internet bank to compare against. Bit of a pain if no co-op bank branch in your town but you can pay in at the post office which takes a bit longer for cheques.

Only problems I've had is with overdraft stuff in the past, but mostly minor and they've paid back charges as good will gestures on occasion when I've had a moan. Which no other bank has ever done for me.

I did this last week…short, to the point. Say what you think is your last day and get them to confirm.

I've always used Specialized or Schwalbe inner tubes which are usually cheaper than Conti and work well. Also there are bulk deals out there e.g. Tredz or Spa Cycles.

I did find my Lenzyne mini-pump unscrewed the core of Schwalbe tubes though when you were taking it off.

I think someone putting the anti-buying from abroad stance out there is necessary, as this thread might promote others who do have a good LBS to buy from abroad rather than seek out said LBS and support it.

Perhaps it could have been put a bit better mind, there are definite benefits to local bike shops including as mentioned warranty and advice. As well as the fact that 'touching' stuff/seeing it in the flesh is good!

Currently the 'bike trade' for want of a better term is generally based on independent shops, I'd hate to seet it go the way of food/books/music where the large chainstore rules.

Although I'm biased as I will be employed by an LBS in under a months time. So I need them to survive so I can pay the rent! 😉

Keep the bike, then you can become a 'messenger' delivering messages/information across the country either offroad or on the now unmaintained and so in a state of disrepair roads. Obviously you're main competition for this role will be people with horses. 😉

    Ah…so your question should be;

"what helmet looks good and fits someone with a thick skull?" 😉

I personally wear a Giro Havoc on and off road with peak. It fits, isn't 'super' hot and was cheap…no helmet going to make me look good though.

If the stairs are tight it's much easier to carry a frame separately to two wheels than a complete bike.

How big is the box room, the storage options are standing the bikes up on their back wheels with some form of hook in the wall to keep them there, a one on top of the other bike storage device or you could fashion some form of 'bar' across the room and hook each of the bikes saddles onto it and store them that way.

+1 for what TJ said. Price, fit and how hot you get wearing it should be the primary concerns.

You might have the nicest looking helmet in the world but if it is uncomfortable and leaves you hot and red in the face you're not going to be looking particularly 'fly' are you. 😉

Claim you taxed it online but it's still in the post and see if you can get a 'producer'? Would that work?

I have an 08 Tricross sport and I do like it despite a lot of fettling/changing brakes (no judder, just something that stops! ;))…Tektro CR720's on at the moment and I'm happy.

Would I buy again I'm not sure…there are other bikes out there that would tempt me, but if it was a good deal then maybe.

The Borough CX tyres are really good on the road/for commuting though in my opinion, zero punctures in almost 2 years (jinxed it now). It's not that heavy if you ask me and I assume the comp is lighter, it's no 'race' bike granted but it's a good sturdy frame if you ride everyday on crappy British roads.

Haven't need to change any bearings yet also and everything running smooth (jinxed it again now), did have the back wheel trued and the cones looked at and tightened up last year and the front could do with a tiny bit of truing at the moment, but again not sure if the wheels are better spec on the comp.

How much puncture resistance do you want? What's the budget?

The pay off being more resistant probably means heavier

The "marathon" tyres range from Schwalbe is generally thought to be good, very popular and come in a variety of widths for 26" wheels.

Why is the provider associated with the scheme for the London Fire Brigade in Wales? Or did you get to pick where you got the bike from, in which case there must be a Dahon stockist closer surely?
