So you guys who are SS on road, do you find you spin out a lot or is it ok if you have a hard enough gear?

If your journey is pretty much flat, you just keep at a constant, comfortable speed and cruise. If you're going up and down loads of hills you wouldn't be riding SS now would you 🙄

Thinking of going tomorrow, but more worried about the harry potter filming restricting access to trails than the boggy parts. Just wondering whats still open now (and rideable)?

So the standards are high at Bristol, doesn't mean you have to apply there. Plenty of other universities to apply to. But more importantly I assume you've spend a bit of time away from the maths and physics? It'll be easy to pick up again if you've got the basic ideas so maybe try looking at some A-Level math pure/mechanics papers to see if you're still up to the standard and move on from there i guess. Comparing papers today to those from 10-20 years ago i can say from personal experience that things were much harder back then.

There is alot more competition for spaces today, especially with the proposed cuts.

If you're planning to go into engineering as a mature student, they will consider any outstanding engineering experiences in the past – even stuff like being a really good mechanic i guess but obviously placements and foundation courses are what they're looking for

If you're not 100% comfortable with riding fixed gear don't do it, I've been riding fixed for a while but still get 'fail moments' now and then. Fixed is silly really..

I have just replaced the chain on my bike but not the cassette, however on the first ride the chain started skipping over small bumps so i decided to change the cassette too. If you look closely at each sprocket, you can see the teeth getting worn (blunt) or little dents where the chain has been slipping. Good idea to change the chain every now and then especially if it has been constantly exposed to the recent wet weather because when it does snap you'll get a nasty bollocks-to-top tube encounter 🙄

I once kept a bag full of coppers totalling about £25. On the day i decided to cash it in, my friend proceeded to smash the bag onto the corner of my desk to 'see if it would make a good weapon' leaving me with circa 2000 coins scattered in my room.

Had a few friends complete it today as well, however the Facebook statuses suggests it was quite unpleasant! I was just checking out the website – one of the obstacles involve running through a nettle bush WTF?!

    Honest opnion…

Do no training and little planning, carry bare minimum with definitely no support.

    Relax, and enjoy the 'journey'.

That is honestly what me and 2 pals did last summer. Did it in two weeks unsupported staying in the cheapest youth hostels we could find, Camped in Scotland and lived on 1/2 kilo pasta each every night. My only tip would be pack light, if you have to 'think' about bringing something, chances are you probably won't need it.
