ok not a massive weight saving but would it be less prone to cracking, bending and general damage?

has anyone seen the carbon vs alloy nomad frame test on pinkbike a while back?

Was there on thursday. Just as adi66 described it really, the braking bumps nearly killed me in the wet on my hardtail and used over half my pads on the one ride! Sintered pads next me thinks!

People ALWAYS read to much into the type of riding. I am just interested in what is the better bike. Not how it looks or if it can be posed on, but if it is that important, it will be used on trails in the UK such as fod, cwmcarn, afan, brechfa and because of my job and what I do it will be used all over the states and Canada also in France Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly russia at Yeh end of the year.

but that’s not important. nor are looks.

The way I think of it is,

Alpine – heavy with big travel all round and reasonable kits

5 am – lighter, big travel up front med out back with lower end kit.

5 pro with 36 talas – lighter still, variable big travel up front med in the rear and good all round kit.

    All imo.

I’m 6 foot dead, I ride a 21 inch and I like it, it is huge but I can stretch out on it.

Just a few upgrades, U.S.E carbon bars, ragly grips, SDG patriot saddle and dmr v8 pedals.

    Kryton,

How is the asr5 compared to a 5? I have been wandering about these tow for some time. I like the asr but stories of larger riders like myself (116 kg) snapping seat and chain stays is putting me towards a 5 at the min

the guy next door to me has just sold his elsworth epifiny and got a Carbon Nomad so its intresting how you think they compare. i am definately being swayed towards the 160 over the 5 but a test ride of both will be the decider.

    Saxabar,

Nice insight into ownership there, and nice pics.

I mainly ride in wales at the mo because I live around Oxford. I am moving up to Lincoln early next month ( lots of hills there :s ) but it puts me in reach of scotish land a bit more easily. But my job frequently take me abroad all over the world, usa, Europe, afgan lol very easy for me to get my bike away with me.

So yes a little over the top for UK riding but would be used in a plethora of situations and countries.

Not sure about getting a 5 might be to heavy for trail centers and the local natural trails I do, I ride a crush and this looks like a full sus crush so to speak

Nice, do you think it would benafit from a 140mm fork upgrade or would that upset it
