I just tripped over this thread. Seems to me this is another “no Evidence” based witch hunt.
If the OP actually wanted to know if he was being a Richard he would have posted any actual evidence and pasted screen shots of the email traffic. so that all quotes were available in context.

One side of an argument does not allow the mob to be even the slightest bit objective.

I have a buddy on a CCDB Air von his Bandit. He gushes about how good it is. I would expect it to be good as it costs a small fortune.

I think the bandit (and the covert, which I have) can blow through travel easily on the normal sag setting (you notice it less on the covert because of the extra 30mm of travel). However, I ‘think’ they both require a slightly weight forward riding position (compared to some other geom. frames). I also feel that, to one degree or another, that a new shock doesn’t cure but just masks the symptom. The cure for me was to ride the bike with more of my weight on the bars. This cured my shitty DH hairpin riding and increased my berm speed significantly. (Thanks to Tom Dowie coaching). Now I don’t feel I need the shock upgrade.
On the other hand, you may well be on the next level up, you already have the correct technique and are pushing the shock to its limit WITH the correct technique. I don’t know you and don’t know your skill level.

Good luck with whatever option you go with.

Do we know which sections are shut?
Is it any of the ‘DH’ sections?

    Is the dh ending shut?

    It’s serviceable.

I don’t like the linear spring in a talas. I find the progressive spring in a Float to give far better feel and Im able to get in to a turn at a higher speed and get better small bump compliance.

So: I’d convert the Talas to Float (£70 for the kit) or go for the Pike, which I found to be about as stiff as the 36 Floats they replaced and a good deal lighter.

    I was there in 2014.
I can’t recommend enough making g sure you are fit. 1000m of climbing in southern England is cake and pie compared to 1000m at altitude.
Also try a few local enduro – take a look at some of the results and compare your times against riders who have been there (roots and rain.com can help)
It’s give you an idea of how fast some of the riders are (or are not, as in my case).

And if shimano are sponsors make sure you have as much shimano kit on your bike as you can get on it ;)

Best tip: don’t take piano wire, you might use it to put yourself out of your own misery.
Tedious riding – To be avoided.

I have some of the combined valve:rubber rimstrip (stans or noTubes? I forget the brand) for sale. I used them in mavic 729 rims.
They have a schreader valve with the outside threaded so it can be secured and not punched back into the tyre when inflating. You can screw a valve extender in the end of the valve too – provided you can get the top of the valve at least two turns beyond the rim.

I can measure the valve length when I get home of you are interested in them. (Email in profile).

    numerous Fox & Poc Gloves.
Endura singletrack shorts & humvee 3/4
petrov vodka (tastes like the name suggests and gave a similar hangover)
Charge Duster – some might like it, but I always preferred my slot drop 26 inbred and will swap it as soon as I can find someone to buy the darn Duster. :/
lezyne ‘screw on to the value’ pump – removes the damn valve core every time I take the head off the valve POS!

I note that neither full face nor body is a requirement for enduro. But it’s held on some of the same courses as DH races which do have that requirement.

ask Trek via your local dealer.
I snapped mine too – they replaced it, no problemo.

The mainframe has a lifetime warrentee.
however, the rear triangle only has a 3yr warrantee, however mine was older than that when it snapped. I just needed to produce my receipt (which “pedal on” were happy to retrieve for me from their server – love those guys!).

    All good ;)

    You are **** then.

I’m sure Matt a plush suspension (other local specialist) could turn them around I a couple of hours. You just need to get the fork to them.

Having experienced the trails and have an idea of dirt to rock ratio, would you say they are the right choice or would you plump for a faster rolling rear (rock razer?)

Another week of sun, without rain, and it might get too dusty and driftyloose at the bottom of the berms.

I have the “fox launch” ones. They are not enduro pads and can only be used for DH, XC or plain old fashioned mountain biking.
The quality is lovely in the box, however I found the fit was a bit off and I ended up adding a lot of Velcro to keep them In place.

They have recently been replaced with POCvpd2.0 which are far superior in every way.

I don’t think snow will be too much of an issue on the south facing slopes, but on the north facing they will be skiing.

If you are gonna get uplift, I would recommend talking to local riders, they can hook you up with guys who will uplift a group of you all day for 50euros. I know a guy if you are in valle Argentina or valle Nervia.

if you want GPX routes of higher trails – ask (by email).

pro-Guided rides are awesome, but not cheap (typically 40euros a day/rider)

I find Tom is better VFM than Jedi. Tom is race proven, doesn’t do a blog about your session and high five you every five minutes & that suits me too.

Coaching has worked for me, made me crash less and got me airborne
