Also the only time you are allowed to run a red light (with caution) if it would otherwise impede the emergency services.

I’m pretty sure you’re wrong there.
Blue light vehicles have an exemption to go through a red light but other vehicles don’t.
As TJ says, if you get a ticket for doing it you have a defence but it’s not certain you’ll get let off.

Was it this place you used?

Currently looking for something similar to the OP.

Can anyone tell me what rear tyre clearance is like on the Vitus, Procaliber or the Chisel?

I honestly can’t see the appeal of cables

You could have just finished there.

Why stick with cable operated gears at all? Wireless shifting is reasonably priced, much easier to install and maintain.
For brake hoses, one they’re in, they’re in. It’s not like you even really need to change them.

That looks spot-on for a winter bike, I’ve been toying with the idea of building up something similar myself.
I’ve got a CX/gravel bike that I use on the road but in reality, I never ride on the road anymore.
A nice, light, fully rigid MTB with good mud clearance would be ideal for winter riding around here.

If you watch Hairy Bikers you may be tempted to go to Amble to eat at Old Boat House or Fish Shack. Don’t. The service is abysmal and the food is dire.

That’s odd, we were up there about a month ago and went to the Fish Shack.
The service was fine and the food was absolutely fantastic!

Two days and eight pages back, yet still you’re here posting on this thread TJ.

Your blinkered vision of everything seems to habitually drag threads like this down. People want a discussion, they don’t want a lecture from you every time.

My mortgage payments are £274/month with 27 and a bit years to run. Could I rent something in Edinburgh for £274/month? Maybe one of those garages

Maybe TJ could rent you one of his properties, after all he said he was renting them out for below market value?

Well the email’s arrived and it’s yet another year of disappointment on the London Marathon front.

I reckon I’d be better off just paying the $350 or whatever it is and trying to get and entry for the New York marathon or some other interesting foreign one.

Happy London Marathon ballot day all. I sit here expecting yet another e-mail of disappointment…

I’m fully expecting the same, for about the tenth time!
It’s probably not a bad thing though as I’m nowhere close to being able to run a marathon and seem to have an incredible inability to do any “proper” training 🤣

Could you even put the SRAM Level’s into Rival shifters?

It works the other way round so I don’t see why not.

Is there such a thing as a shoe which has some grip on damp chalky/muddy Chiltern trails?
Currently got some Hoka SpeedGoat 4’s which are comfortable but lacking in grip on the slippy stuff.

A whole 20p/ltr more expensive than petrol as well (Tesco Redding Road up the brakes). Is that normal across the UK?

It never used to be but it is now.

I’m pretty sure that about a year or so back it was only about 5-10p a litre dearer but I’ve seen it 25p dearer in some places recently.

I think ours works out at about 4% (NHS) but they’re changing the pension contributions from next month so I think my pension actually goes down a bit.

I’m quite happy with it tbh as our wages aren’t bad at all.

Speak to a broker and see if they can get you another fixed rate now. You might have an early redemption fee to pay but I imagine it’ll be worth it.
We were expecting a fee of about £1500 or so but the broker managed to get it binned off and got us on a new fixed rate.

@mogrim what’s the best way to do intervals or hill reps?
Is it just a case of a minute on/minute off for intervals or something like that?

The closest hill to me is 0.5 miles and climbs 384ft according to Strava. In all honesty I struggle to run up it at the best of times so not sure I’d manage reps on it 😆

    Advice needed, yet again.

I’ve got a local 10k trail race in seven weeks time. I ran it last year in 1:00.59 so I need to knock at leas 59 seconds off my time this time round as I was gutted to be so close to the hour. The race is 10k with about 300m of climbing.

I currently run about three times a week. Usually 5km-7km each time, usual pace is around 6:00/km. I usually aim to do one faster 5k, one hillier run and a longer one if I get the chance.

What’s the best way to get quicker in the next seven weeks?

We just got in with a new five year fix before the rates went up. It wasn’t cheap but I’m glad we did!

Get your company to splash out on one of these, they’re invaluable in the winter if you commute on the bike.

Plenty there to benefit all of his Tory pals though.

I drilled the frame on my commuter bike about three years ago for a Di2 cable to run through. Absolutely no problem with it so far.
I guess it depends on the size and location of the hole.

I think the Octavia sounds perfect for you.

I’ve had mine for five years now, it’s the VRS diesel estate. Done 65,000 miles in it and it’s been faultless. Like pretty much everyone else, I’m running Cross Climates and they’re great, we had a couple of heavy dumps of snow last winter and it wasn’t a problem driving before any gritters etc had been out.
The car swallows up a huge amount of kit, we did a Lake District and Northumbria trip a couple of weeks back with two bikes in the back along with all the other kit and still had space for more. Best thing was that it managed an average of 69.4mpg over the 700 miles according to the dash!

I’d say there’s no chance of being a British winner when there’s VdP and WvA racing.

My money would be on van Aert for the win.

So we had a few days in the Lakes last week and some fantastic weather.
I ran up Barrow Fell which was bloody lovely. The run up was slow and tough but well worth it. The run back down was a killer!
What’s the best way to train for running downhill, apart from just running downhill more?

Why are you looking at them, so we can help point you towards the some options?

I’m not actually sure if I want one yet, just had a few days in the Lake District and noticed that the majority of bikes I saw were E-bikes.
I’m toying with the idea of getting one but not sue I want some 30kg monster truck thing as it’ll be total overkill for the riding I do.

That’s a valid point regarding the travel. I’m used to short travel bikes so that’s my go-to. Ebikes are alien to me, I don’t know the first thing about them!

    @Sodajim
not a chance. There’s no way in the world I’m spending £12k on a bike.

    I got a vevor 10l one

    I got the same one.

I’ve followed the advice in the video above and been using cleaning fluids in a zip lock bag.
I tried a bit of washing up liquid, it wasn’t great.
Tried muc-off, it was a little better.
Tried some degreaser I’ve got for the car and it worked really well. So far I’ve done a few chains and cassettes. Once they were cleaned I rinsed them with tap water them blown dry with the compressor. After that the chains have been waxed.
It’s far easier using the cleaner than trying to clean stuff by hand!

I went with a Vevor one but got the 10l version. It’ll fit an Eagle cassette which was what I wanted.
I’ve been impressed with it so far.
