There is a price difference as the wire beaded ones are cheaper.
I find the folding ones easier to fit than wire beaded ones.

Personally I only buy folders as I’m happy with the ease of fitting.

If you don’t want to ride over to Cwm Carn or do 2 x laps of the Twrch trail then why not explore the top of the hill & valleys, put your bike over the fence @ Airstream and go ride.

I’ve got a GPX file of a route we did a while back with a nice descent into the valley & back out again.

If you want me to send it to you email me – addy in profile.

I shall NOT be riding my red bike tomorrow instead it will be my trusty silver one instead.

Riding from Burrator reservoir up to Merrivale KOM climb near Princetown to watch the ToB go past on their way to Dartmouth.

Shame Wiggo is out but it will be good to see Cav & the local lad Jonathon Tiernan-Locke go past

Yes, this happened to me a few years back. I had been riding regularly for 4 or 5 years and lived for riding @ the weekend.

Then one Saturday I got up, got my kit sorted, bike sorted & was just about to go riding when my wife came home. I just put my bike away got changed & vegged out on the sofa 😕 No real reason for it I just lost my mojo.

I had a few weeks off the bike & did other things but none gave me the buzz I got from riding & once again I returned to my regular weekend rides.

I echo what was said above in that geting some cheap lights & going night riding is the dogs bollox and the sooner the clocks change the better.

Maybe give riding a break & try other things. If they don’t float your boat then go back to riding. Find some riding buddies to add a bit of peer pressure to get out on the bike. Do fun rides rather than XC race type rides.

One place I always take new visitors to Cornwall to is the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre[/url] there is much more there than the cute otters but plenty of other birds & animals to see.

They have a tea shop for refreshments too but time your visit to ensure that you are there when they feed the otters which is amazing, they really are very cute if a little smelly. I’m sure that you & your kids will love it.

You have Bodmin Moor on your doorstep. Caradon Hill & Minions is a good ride.

Do you have a Garmin as I can send you a GPX file of a loop up there.

Could be interested in a ride up there too next week maybe Tuesday late afternoon or early eve. Email in profile if you want to sort something out.

Had a great day watching the race first on the way down at Walton on Thames & then on the way back near Esher.

Fantastic atmosphere, lots of people out watching, great weather & blimey they were riding at some speed.

The breakaway at Walton on Thames roundabout

Team GB on the front giving chase

    At Esher another breakaway

At Esher with Team GB chasing – Cav in second place

A great day watching the race & a nice bimble back from Hampton Court to Walton along the towpath 🙂

I was in a very similar situation to Bullheart when in 2009 I was diagnosed with Skin Cancer & I was sitting alone at home after having a second op to remove another chuck of skin breaking down in tears convinced I was going to die when I noticed a post by TN about her husbands fight against Cancer & getting back on the bike.

We managed to get in touch & both T & J gave me advice, comfort & support and made me realise that the dark thoughts were all part of the journey I was going through. I too owe them both a huge debt which I will never be able to adequately repay. I was a very scared & lost soul who they helped get back in touch with reality.

We continued our friendship & I was very pleased when J & T came to Cornwall for a holiday. I was able to thank them in person for their help & support during my darkest hour. My most treasured memory was the day we all went riding on Dartmoor & I was able to show them round my ‘patch’. To say that J was a legend is not an understatement, to ride that route with only one arm was outstanding & very humbling.

I am very heavy hearted that a very special friend has gone far too soon.

On the day he died I wrote this as my tribute to a fantastic man, husband & friend:

Today you fell asleep & God took you to be his newest star in the Sky. Pain free at long last & no more fighting that devil within. Sleep well my friend until we meet again. RIP.

now the wrong side of 50 & fitter than ever.

Use it or lose it, so get out more often & enjoy it.

Think of age as a challenge & don’t let it get you down, I ride with guys even older than me & they are seriously fast.

It was tad breezy on Dartmoor too today 🙁

Managed to do a route where we were sheltered on most of the ups into the wind & then on the way back we were pushed up the hills 🙂

I survived just & I agree with your summary of the event. I have ridden @ Newnham Park many times & I have to say that todays course was by far the most technically challenging loop I’ve ever had the ‘pleasure’ of riding there.

Brutal climbs & squeaky bum descents with zero grip, that was a tough ride & I agree with you about the 24/12. Personally I don’t think they will make it that difficult for the Bonti as it’s not a short course race.

Did the Sustrans route 27 a few years ago on my Halfrauds BSO in a day with commuter tyres, Plymouth to Ilfracombe stayed in a B&B then back the next day.

The route is easily done on a road bike or a MTB with slick tyres, there are no real sections where you will need proper off road tyres & there are long sections of tarmac to ride on.

If you are going from Ilfracombe to Plymouth then avoid the bw just outside of Braunton, it’s a narrow trail between to fields & was very overgrown when I rode it. I would carry on past the start of the bw to the road then head South to Braunton.

Stop @ the eco cafe @ East Yarde they do superb food.

When coming South take the route to the left of Tavistock i.e. Mary Tavy, Peter Tavy, etc the other route is IMHO not biker friendly & is quite a climb.
