I think you’ll find ‘which do you have first on your scone, jam or cream?’ is more important

Me, cipher23 & avalanche all went up to Haldon for a birthday boys bash – their birthday’s not mine :( – anyway we found some rather good cheeky stuff to ride on but the further down the hill we got the wetter & muddier it was. A quick stop for lunch then a touch of the new Red run followed by a shortcut to the lower berms section which was riding very fast today. It was then the haul over to the finale which was an absolute stonkin blitz down St Andrews Lane, which was as dry as a bone & riding soooooo fast – Whoopee!!!! – Yeah I really enjoyed that last bit  I was having such a great time I didn’t even take any pics

Ace I used to spend every summer holiday in that area when I was a kid. Just down the road from Pensilva on a relatives farm. I should really go back. Is there much nice offroad riding round there?
I thought Kit Hill was where we flew Kites and threw boomerangs but that appears to be the area of common land to the west of Pensilva. Wonder what that was called then?

Tom, there is some riding on Bodmin moor but not in the league of Dartmoor or Exmoor. You really need to go up there with someone who knows where the few best bits are. I think the place you are thinking of west of Pensilva is either Caradon Hill with the TV mast or Minions/Cheesewrings on Craddock Moor.

I had a great ride from home on a local ride today & it was fantastic. Most of the trail was dry & there wasn’t too much wind about in E.Cornwall. It was up to a local high point so my legs are aching a bit now with all the climbing. Off to Haldon tomorrow with two mates for a blast on the cheeky stuff, I hope the rain stays away :D

Yep, I did a loop from home to Kit Hill in Cornwall which is right on my doorstep & back. I’m kicking myself that I haven’t gone up there on my bike before. It’s a mental climb to get up there but I’ve recently found lots of channels, gullies, tracks & trails all begging to be ridden. The only minor problem is most of the great stuff up there is steep downhill :D & once you are at the bottom as Yaz said ‘The only way is UP’ :? I’ve managed to cobble together a double loop of around 1hr 45mins including the best bits I’ve found so far. There are still bits up there which I haven’t explored yet but today it was great weather, only two layers of clothing not three & I had my shorts on – whoopee!

Off to Haldon tomorrow with two mates for their Birthday Boys Bash, hopefully the weather will be dry again & we can banzi down St Andrews Lane on the way home

The trig point on Kit Hill Cornwall this morning. Funnily enough I have walked up there quite often over the last 20 years but today was the first time I noticed the dedication carved into the side of the stone – Doh

I can also recommend Grand Baie as an area in which to stay with great hotels, beaches & restaurants. I came back with a load of designer shirts which worked out at about £5 each from the local menswear shop & Mrs cb bought a load of pashminas again at rock bottom prices. Fantastic place, fantastic weather & fantastic people we can’t wait to go back again.

I’m sure you will have a great time as it’s a top island, you jammy blighter 8)

I have tried all three different length Sealskinz socks:

Ankle – far too short & after the first splash you will have water inside them.

Calf – far too long & in my experience not long after you start riding they wander down your leg & collect at your ankle. Would be OK if you wore long over trousers tho.

Mid – IMHO they are just right although I wear a pair of MW80’s as well. They keep my feet warm & dry I have no complaints.

If you just want to get a new bladder for your pack then eBay is your friend.

A quick search for ‘Hydration bladder cycling’ has brought up 31 hits. I bought a 2ltr one recently for my Aldi backpack for less than £8.
