if I was going to buy some Conti SK or MK again then I'd go for the tougher Protection version, the other non-protection version are light but are fragile IMHO.

IMHO the better bits on Dartmoor are not in & around Oke – soz – unless you like northshore stuff which are in Abbeyford Woods.

Get yourself down to Princetown & ride down to Burrator & back. Trailmonkey off here guided the MBR guys recently on a selection of routes starting at Princetown, you may need to dig out the edition with them in.

There is also great riding round Lustleigh Cleave but you may need to have a local to show you where the best bits are, post up on here asking for a local guide for the day or advice on a route.

why don't you try some of the techniques mentioned above at home first that way you can find out which works best without making a complete t!t of yourself in work. Personally I wouldn't put any alcohol based fluid anywhere near my 'ring of fire' 😕

another thumbs up for Altura Attack 3/4 waterproof shorts, one of my best buys ever. These not only keep your @rse dry but dry amazingly quick overnight ready for the next ride, very useful on a recent 3 day riding weekend 😀

I put on 24,36,48T chainrings on my HT for commuting & it's still OK for riding off road & I'm using original front mech. It'll top 35+ on the flat & the higher gearing helps with the fitness off road 🙂

If you want to stay in Cornwall then Caradon Hill is the closest riding to Liskeard if you know where you are going up there. If you are happy to travel a bit further then head back into Devon & go to Princetown to ride on Dartmoor.

I had a high speed facial on Dartmoor back in June & yes it did knock my confidence when I got back on the bike. I started to do some road / commuting miles first then got back into the woods & singletrack. I took things easy to begin with & then gradually built up to more difficult stuff.

I rode the full Exmoor Explorer at the beginning of August & the other week I had 3 days in Wales riding high mountains, a trail center & some natural wooded trails too. I'm now back to my pre-crash speed if not a bit quicker. I would just say don't go beating yourself up over this & take your time 🙂
