IMHO The best stuff up at Haldon are not the marked trails but the other stuff that's up there, you just need to know where it is 😉

This means you don't have trouble with dogs, children or adults wandering on the trail, although on the 'err unmarked stuff we have on numerous occasions seen some of the local deer population but they just leggit in the opposite direction.

For me the main reason I go to Haldon is the sublime St Andrews Lane decent on the way home – Woo Hoo 😆

I've tried all three sealskinz sizes

Ankle – too short & water gets in the top very easy 😐

Mid – the best of the lot but as above you need to have some sort of layer over the top of them to stop the water getting in 🙂

Long – unless you gaffa tape or staple them to your legs after about 100m they fall down to your ankles with a very large gap at the top to let the water in 😐

I use mids with Shimano MW80's & although not 100% waterproof I've not had any frozen feet issues which I had with other sox/shoe combinations.

Thanks for your latest up date mate.

We are all rooting for you on STW & even Mrs Bacon who doesn't know you always asks if there is any more news about you.

Keep the faith mate & never give up, you are stronger than this interloper, you will succeed & we will ride together when you are better.

All the very best to you & Meg for your up coming Wedding & we can't wait for the pics – only try to get some decent sleep cos we can't have you dozing off during the speeches.

When I change the chain I also pop on a new cassette too, that way they wear in/out together & I've not had an problems.

If you have been riding for a year & a half on the same cassette then i'd say it's probably time to change the cassette to a new one especially as you have a new chain.

was looking for full suss bike & tried just about every Spesh demo bike in the LBS but couldn't quite make my mind up.

Was surfing the net one night & looked on the LBS website – saw a Rocky Mountain full suss with £750 off & called into the LBS the next day. Once around the carpark on it & went back inside with me credit card to buy it.

Nearly 2 years later & I still luvre it 🙂

I've had a few hairy moments flying down there FR apart from the gully & low branches.

I once encountered a dozen 'silver' red sox ambling slowly up the hill as I was flying down there at warp speed & then on another occasion I met two horse riders coming up 😕 luckily managed not to hit anybody on both occasions.

Not sure where the Widowmaker tag comes from as I believe it's proper name is the Abbots Way. I've also heard it referred to as the Bike Breaker for obvious reasons.

TM – let me know what you think of the Ringmore descent when you get round to doing it, as it would be good to get someone else's perspective on it.

Yes I have done the secret valley, sadly it was when I was just starting out on my MTB career & it was a bit too techy for my meager skills at the time so I haven't been back, plus that climb up Merrivale hill back to P'town was a killer 😥

Jam bo – fmh is spot on.

If you are coming down Jobbers Row past the scout hut you pick up the tarmac road, at the end you probably carry on down to Sheepstor village, however turn left & follow the road up the hill, past Ringmore Cottage on the left & over the cattle grid then immediately turn right & go down the hill following the stone wall.

It starts quite wide, then goes into two deep ruts, then down to a singletrack gully & a fast downhill. At the bottom follow the road, turn right at the T junction & down the hill to Meavy. It's worth the effort to get to the start & it's a stonkin downhill just be careful of the low tree branches on the way down.

be wary of any emails perporting to be from "HMRC" as most if not all are pshing scams.

HMRC contact with taxpayers is usually by snail mail or the occasional phone call.

    surely tuesday's a work day?!

Correct, however when your work mates have a golf-day on the Monday then I'm entitled to have a MTB-halfday ride on Tuesday, especially as it's going to be dry, sunny & very little wind

I use them mainly in the winter but also in the Summer when it's wet & I've not had an problems with sweaty feet.

I like them & I wouldn't use anything else. I get mine off evilbay which I've found is the cheapest place but if anyone can get them cheaper then let me know.
