I was taking a newbie on his first ever off road ride on Dartmoor showing him the route & the potential dangers to lookout for.

On a fairly 'safe' section I was leading & he was following when I decided to ride through the narrow gap between two granite stones. The gap was filled with water & 'looked' shallow, anyway the front wheel sank down the gap, stopped dead & the bike went vertical, I exited over the bars onto the ground & the bike then landed on top of me 😕

The worse bit was landing in an exotic cocktail of wet mud, granite, peat, cow sh*t, sheep sh*t & rabbit sh*t and my mate laughing his sox off. Why I didn't just ride over the stones I'll never know.

Well you definitely can't relocate to Pastyland with your festering peds now. We don't need foot & mouth back down here again 😆

Sorry mate but Kernow immigration rule number 59 (b) sub section 4 states 'no one with athletes foot can move to Cornwall, even if they aren't too bad at cooking' 😛

Nah you'd hate it down here mate, I'd stay in Swindon if I was you 😉

We've got nothing down here to rival the trails in the woods behind the Nationwide you have up there & everyone knows it's as flat as a pancake in Kernow.

Don't get sucked in by all that Doc Martin crap on the telly, it's so bad down here we've even got to charge people leaving Cornwall on the Tamar Bridge – we do let them in for free tho.

All the barns have already been done up & sold to the Chelsea tractor brigade, all the spare plots of land have been turned over to growing pasties courtesy of the EU CAP & hot tubs are now banned on H & S grounds, can't have people bathing outdoors down here.

Finally sorry to disappoint you but all the cannons have been melted down to make Orange P7's. If I can be of anymore assistance please let me know 'moi ansome' 😛

We did the safari thing in 2005 to South Africa & the Kruger National Park – possibly the best holiday we've ever had.

We flew to Jo'burg then a short hop to an airport close to Kruger, followed by a short drive into the Park. We stayed 2 nights in the North, 2 nights in the South & one night in the middle. The accommodation was fantastic considering where we were & the cost of food & drinks was ridiculously cheap as the Rand was 10 to £1. We were in long-wheel based landrovers with raised seating so that you could look over the people in front.

We saw the big 5 & even went on a night safari which was great fun. The game drives are first thing in the morning so getting up at 5am to be ready to leave the lodge at 6am was a struggle but well worth it, then back for a cooked breakfast. The guides we had were first class & we saw so many different animals & birds. There was also a late afternoon drive too which got back just before they shut the lodge gates at 6pm.

We went with Kuoni in late September and we would highly recommend them. The weather was dry & warm not too hot & not too cold. We also did 5 days in Mauritius afterwards to relax & get over the safari. Our one regret …. not having a digital camera at the time. We have lots of pics taken on film to remind us of the time we spent there.

PS If you are a bit sensitive then beware, you will probably bear witness to one animal eating another but hey that's life on Safari

Hi Stumpy – glad you liked the route mate.

Next time you're coming down email me, hopefully we can ride together & I'll either show you some other bits off that route or I'll show you round a different part of Dartmoor which will put a smile on your face .

She wants to get hold of the Sustrans Route 3 Map as this runs from Bristol to Lands End but at Barnstaple she can head off up route 27 to Ilfracombe, then turn round & ride back to Bristol. Sustrans use the quieter roads & from Bridgwater to Taunton the canal towpath.

Sorry can't help with camping tho. I hope she enjoys the ride 😀

I'm no computer expert but you might want to run Spybot to clear out any unwanted nasties on your PC. Then re-install AVG etc.

I've got the Altura Attack 3/4 waterproof shorts & they are fantastic in the Winter in the wet, keeps me nice & dry.

Not so good in warm weather tho as they aren't breathable & they tend to boil your 'baw bag' 😕
