with all due respect that MBR loop its not the best riding in that area of Dartmoor IMHO. It’s a long ride but tends to avoid/miss all the great stuff in & around Hound Tor/Lustleigh Cleeve & in some places goes the wrong way 😕

If you want a more thrilling, techy & IMHO rewarding ride then you could do no worse than ride the loop that foxyrider has linked to.

Trailmonkey/Shinythings put together a loop with all the best bits in the area & made for a superb ride. You might also want to post up on here for a local to help/guide you around Lustleigh I know Yunki lives in the area & maybe free to go for a ride.

I’ll be there with a mate from work & I’ve put the word out to friends etc on fb so hopefully more will come along too.

It goes without saying but I’ll mention it anyway.

Anyone who is going along really should NOT park in the Estover side streets especially those residents streets who are complaining against the development. We don’t want to give them any ammunition to use against us

Yes it does start near the cheeky bit down to the bridge too far, not sure where it comes out down the bottom as i’m an xc mincer & stayed @ the top taking pics.

Hopefully there will be a good showing of mtbers on Weds i’ve asked all my mates to try to go along. I see there is a piece in the Herald about the residents protest so it would be good to put our side/point across

not seen the other stuff (dh trail?)in hound tor woods so may have to go exploring!! any hints to the start of the trail?

We went from Water along the road past Beckhams farm & down the bw through the gate into Houndtor Woods. After gate take a left immeadiately & follow the trail along. Look out for a tree with an orange ‘X’ & arrow painted on the bark. The start was about 30m before that tree on the right. The start was bermed which you can see from the top.

If I’m miles out with my directions I’m sure someone will be along to put you straight.

See you Weds maybe @ Plymbridge woods.

We went down the widowmaker, devonport leat, hidden valley & tv mast. It was misty but the trails were ok.

Lol – i might try & ‘float’ down the hill next time too !

Mini hyjack – apologies. Jam bo i rode the TV mast descent last night & i see what you mean about the drainage work done up there. Thanks for the tip about the line of granite stones part way down as i would have been ripping down there without your warning & might have had another faceplant. It was v.misty at the top last night & the mast was barely visable even from the trig point.

Outstanding news & the dust has reached Kernow now…..

Having met the legend himself i can well understand why the Cancer has decided to go elsewhere. You Sir are one of lifes true fighters & someone who doesn’t know the meaning of the word giving up. Your courage, determination & sheer will to succeed is a lesson we can all learn from.

I don’t use this phrase but in this case it is appropriate – you are indeed a LEGEND & STW is a better place with you on it.

PS have you got rid of them god-awful white rim wheels yet ? ;o)

James – another Dartmoor regular rider here. It maybe a bit short notice but i’m taking another STWer out on Dartmoor next monday 15th we are starting from Princetown @ 5 pm, if you are interested email me addy in profile. I maybe able to do other rides too in E.Cornwall.

Jam bo – the TV mast descent is a hoot & running fast in the dry. The top is a bog-fest in the wet tho.

For East Dartmoor you’ll need to get in contact with Trailmonkey & Yunki off here they both ride that side of the Moor a fair bit & also ride on weekdays.

I know this isn’t a memorial bench but it is a memorial stone dedicated to 4 RAF aircrew who lost their lives when their plane crashed onto Hamel Down Tor on Dartmoor during WW2

I did find a dedicated bench in Houndtor Woods

Barbados great island but as said above it’s expensive.

We had a bus ride with a bus driver who thought he was Ayrton Senna & we exited the bus station leaving two black lines :o( he then played chicken with anything coming the other way. I’ve never been so glad to get off a bus in my life.

It’s a great place & the East coast is windy if you’re after watersports. The Weat coast is tranquil with clear blue water & white sandy beaches.
