Remember when you were a kid, though, and you managed to get at least three of your mates on a bike for a ride to the park, and not die?

I object to being told I have to stick a farking great monstrosity on my bike when a small, cunning modification will do the trick.

EDIT: Aye – what Oop North sez too, the rest of the world doesn’t get too carried away about it…

If you’re reading this, you’ll probably enjoy this:

Our two favorite subjects at Cracked are the elusive concept of human happiness and Batman. This article is about the first one.
If you’re looking for an answer to “How can I be happy?” then the response from the experts is, “You’re asking the wrong question.” The better question is why our idea of happiness is so screwed up that most of us wouldn’t recognize the real thing if we saw it. Well …

5 Scientific Reasons Your Idea of Happiness Is Wrong

Ned, that is an excellent link. Really enjoyed that, ta.

I should stress I’m not complaining. Quite the opposite. I just think anyone suggesting that work is a 9:00-5:00 thing is an idle git.

Or they have their priorities straight…

I’m 6’2″ and have a large 2005 Horst Link. I find it too small for me.

As a result, the frame’s in the shed looking for a loving new home if anyone’s interested…

My 05 Spot avec Horst Link goodness.

Zedsdead, frame’s now for sale – it’s a large, and it’ll be perfect for you.

I’ve just sold the CCDB that was on it, though, so at the moment it’s got no shock at all on it.

Let me know if you’re interested.

What size shock are you after?

    I'm just about to sell mine as I've just had a different frame turn up in the post. It's off a 5-Spot, 190 x 50 I bleeve…

EDIT: Sorry, meant to say it's a CCDB.

Yup, put a Mojito together for a mate last night and went for a spin on it – seems like great fun to me for 200 squids delivered! Except for the fact that they sent it out with two left pedals, I can't fault it for the cash.

My Council's saving an estimated 200 million in the next three years, whilst still managing the list of activities mentioned by richcc.

I think they're doing rather well, actually. Not an easy time for local bodies at the moment.

I just read your post properly, sorry. I see you're only after one side anyway. I'm still out anyway!

Btw, you can also buy shorty lock-ons to go with the grip shifters, but I've found they're about a half-inch too long.

The problem is that I've found it's more like 2/3rds or 5/8ths of a grip on each side, so unless you have teensy-wee girl-hands, then I'm afraid I'm out…

I just recently started wondering what the triggers were for mid-life crises, as I was fairly sure my life is in pretty good shape and I would avoid most of the worst of it, but then started wondering whether just thinking about it would probably be the worst thing I could possibly do as there are always things that you wonder if you could be doing better.

This is actually a really pleasant, life-affirming thread. Much to look forward to, it seems.

    Thanks all.

I've tried "universal" remotes before and found that even if they do work, I've then got to remember what function has been asigned to what button, which is a pain. so no thanks

What, the button that says "Watch DVD", "Listen to CD" or "Watch TV", and then turns on all the components as required to the settings you require for that particular activity? One button press, job's a good 'un.

You've plainly been playing with the wrong remotes. I've gone from juggling five remotes to a single one and life's just peachy, ta.

There have been a number of people actually giving you good input on your question, but you seem to be fairly convinced of the way you want to do things anyway, so good luck with that.

    Give baby a "Dream Feed".

Similar to what I_did_dab says, but you don't wake them up. Pick the baby up (still asleep) at about 10pm and bung a bottle in her/his mouth. They drink it, still asleep, then you put them down. The disturbance is just enought to reset the sleep pattern and the full belly should get you through til 5 or 6, and it should get better from there with time.

Worked for my two, and you can keep going up to about 18 months – by which time yer kid'll be sleeping as it should. Don't worry about people saying it's a step backwards, it's whatever works FOR YOU, and I'm telling you, the best way to be the best parent you can be is to make sure you're getting the rest you need.

Gina Ford's a pretty good reference, but there are a number of other good books giving other perspectives. If you read a number of different methods you can work out the combination of methods that works best for you, rather than just blindly implementing. The Baby Whisperer (Tracy Hogg) books give an interesting perspective too.

    Sweet dreams!

I'm a scientist by trade, so highly sceptical of many of the claims of Holistic medicine, but my stance has softened somewhat. Not because I believe any of it, but I think that some of the techniques may very well be a valid means of encouraging the body to self-heal – the placebo effect, if you will.

The problem for me is that a lot of the practices are cloaked in exactly the kind of fluffy, woolly, ethereal language that makes it a laughing stock in scientific circles.

If you can divorce the ability to have an internal dialogue with yourself from the crystals and lavender and fans-of-light-and-energy, then I think that there could be real benefit in a number of the techniques that underpin the holistic business.

    2p.
