I’ve had a year getting to grips with a nasty case of this. I reckon I’m about 85% better now.

The ice water bottle roll trick is very good. Also, rolling a tennis ball under your foot to massage it.

A night splint made a big difference but it took me a while to get used to wearing it. Do plenty of stretching of the calf and foot – but don’t overdo it, as too much can make it flare up again.

A voltarol gel massage helped as a regular part of things along with ALL of the other stuff.

Paracetamol didn’t work for me. Neither did ibuprofen, but aspirin helped sometimes.

I had a course of dry-needling from a physio, which had immediate benefits for the PF, but it would normally only last a few days, and felt like I’d been walloped with a cricket bat for at least two days after the treatment.

It’s bloody painful. You have my sympathy.

EDIT: Just seen the post above – taping works really well to control pain – really saved me through the worst of it. I’m still using heel inserts, too, and they seem to give a degree of support that helps.

Think NZCol from these parts is not far from Haitaitai?

    Good luck with your search.

I have the 70-300 DO IS lens. I love it. It is a staple part of my travel photography kit as it is not only a fantastic lens (and the image stabilisation makes up in part for the relative slowness), but it’s also (again, relatively) compact and lightweight for a decent zoom.

If you are using it on one of the smaller sensor canons, the crop factor works well too.

    I’m not selling mine.

EDIT: I also have a 17-40 L lens, which is relarively cheap for a fantastic bit of glass, and it works well in tandem with the zoom as a travel pack of two lenses.

Yeah, ECU was inside the car, but under the dash behind the glovebox. It’s an old 5 series, so not sure if the Passat is the same config.

EDIT: My mechanic also managed to source a second-hand ECU for around half of the new price, and significantly less than an after-market jobby. Could yours do similar, or is it too late now?

I had the ECU on my car go after a windscreen replacement wasn’t sealed properly and rain got in. Took a good 6 months for the issues to manifest, but full credit to Autoglass, they put their hand up and covered my repairs.

    Doesn’t help you though, soz.

Does anyone else find that 5:10s are *too* sticky? I struggle with any attempt at micro-adjustment if I’ve placed my foot on the pedals a tiny bit out.

I have a Chariot Cougar II (2 seater) which I am thinking about selling now that our two eldest are a bit more proficient on bikes. THE Best trailer you can get. It’s such a damned fine machine! Light, well made, easy to tow, has adjustable suspension. And, what’s more, you can buy jogging, stroller and even cross-country skiing attachments for it!

If you’re interested, flick me an email.

    Cheers

My son started at 6 and enjoyed it until the coaches started getting a bit more serious in the next age group.

My daughter started playing a couple of weeks before she turned 4. She loved it and still does.

Get in early, but no pressure. The club should let you try them out for as many weeks as you need before they ask you for fees.

    Have fun!

You can, you know. Just chop one side of the lock-on off and make sure the other end is tight. I have been running mine like this for months with zero ill-effects.

On the other hand, my E39 touring is ticking over beautifully after 7 years of ownership and 160,000 on the clock…

Had a few minor gripes, but I can excuse that for a car of the vintage. And it’s cost me peanuts in comparative depreciation of a newer car.

My Stepmum went on a week-long retreat to learn about this. There seemed to be a lot of interesting stuff involved.

    She died.

    YMMV.

Where are you in Kent, Aus?

And what size is your Swift?

Just asking, like… I’m in West Kent and looking to possibly start getting out a little more in the near future.

Also looking at a rigid Swift as the next purchase.

    Cheers!

I had ten weeks as a government scientist on an exploratory fishing boat in the Ross Sea about 15 years ago before I came to the UK.

Whales every day – including an astonishing encounter with a Blue Whale, getting trapped in ice, watching penguins and albatross, catching huge fish bigger than me, catching weird fish that have never been seen before, following an Italian icebreaker through 200 miles of sea ice.

Pretty damned amazing, actually. And I got paid for it!

Only bummer was that we didn’t get to set foot on solid land, but hey ho.

Duckman, that rigid Swift looks fantastic.

How’s the ride? Is that a custom spray, or can you get them like that?

    Cheers!

Just started my 6yo boy three weeks ago. He had a couple of tanties in the first couple of weeks, but this week things started falling into place and he really enjoyed it – and watching your lad score his first try is marvellous!

Also started my 4yo daughter in the minis (reception) this week and she had a ball too.

    Brilliant. Do it.

My 15 month-old son put our phone in the loo this morning. It still worked though, as it rang about three minutes later.

It was the Kent Police saying that they had just recieved an abandoned 999 call from our number with a childs voice in it.

I may have said something involuntarily at that point as my daughter then trotted into nursery before gleefully announcing that “Daddy said we were rubbish kids…”

So, in summary, mostly it’s great.

    Yeah. Wot Col said.

I’d expect nothing less from Flash. He’s never had anything pleasant to say about the antipodes as far as I can tell.

Not quite sure what the bee in the bonnet is, but hey ho…

This is normal. Terrible twos from 14-18 months with all of ours.

    Don’t take it personally.

    Good luck.

I’ve seen one at the very southern tip of Epping Forest, about 50m from the first house. Wonder if he’s wandered down that way.

Actually, they have a deer enclosure in the park itself. Wonder if he’s managed to get out?
