Used to be the Herminator for me. Anyone read his book? It’s very good.

Feel like I have an allegiance to the Swiss skiers like Janka and Feuz as my parents have a place there and we have been going for 10 years now.

Overall king of the slopes has to be Ivica Kostelic though, incredible technical skier!

Didier – A true legend of the sport! Will miss him from this seasons WC races!

Just out of interest, anyone on here follow ski racing much?

Haha yeah Diablo 150’s. We were sponsored by them a few years ago so only cost me £140 and now they have softened a bit so no need to swap them now i’m not racing anymore.

Yep Peak jacket – good spot! Was last seasons purchase in the sales in Whistler!

My Brother and I both started skiing at around 3.

For the first coupld of years it was a morning in Ski School then an afternoon in the creche. After a couple of years it was full days ski school and then a an hour practicing with Mum and Dad at the end of the day.

Had lessons up to the age of about 12 and since then just skiied with Parents or on our own.

    Thats awesome!

Im getting married in June next year. Thats my ideal wedding morning activity with my ushers, dont think it will be anything as tricky as Stainburn though or else some people might not make it to the Wedding, will have to be Longridge Fell.

+1 for Pub rather than Cafe.

Gisburn has it down. Massive chip butty and a pint of Ewe Tosser on a Sunday afternoon while having a look at shiny stuff in the shop!

And it is the Dog and Partridge no Dog and Gun (sorry)

    Watching this with some interest.

We are heading to the lakes next weekend. We were planning on doing Grizedale with the bridleway down to Parkamoor and back thrown in on the Saturday and then doing a lop around Loughrigg Fell and the Langdales on Sunday.

Do locals think those ones will be rideable after all the rain?

    Not me BUT….

My best friend has snogged Molly from the Saturdays. They used to do ski racing together and he snogged her at 13 on a racing camp!

Wow! Now that’s cool cold! FTFY

Captain – From an eco point of view I don’t think there is any need to have cannons on with still over 2 months to go until the season. I think they really should only be used to stop rocks and grass peeking through when the snow gets a bit thin.

However to ski on I hate the stuff and would much rather then put a base down with it then let us ski on all the lovely real snow on top!

teenrat – Its not only the M25 that is having money spent on managed motorways being implemented.

Im not sure on the full details, but I know one company alone are delivering close to £500million worth of motorway schemes in the north starting next year. These are managed motorways on the M1 from J28-35, an improvement scheme on the A556 from the M56 to M6south and a new link road around lancaster from the M6 to Heysham.

Add this to current managed motorway works on the M62, the huge job that has been going on on the A1 near Leeming Bar kind of show you that it is not just the M25 that gets money spent on it as you would like to think.

If trucks were restricted to the inside lane with no exceptions it would be a nightmare for HGV’s.

Things like abnormal loads, really bad drivers or big hills would bring the whole inside lane to a virtual standstill at any time of day!

Managed Motorways are being implemented all over the motorway network at the moment. The M1, M6 and M62 are all mid way through implementing this just to name a few. There is a lot more of it in the pipeline too. Haven’t seen people moaning about money being spent on these but then maybe that’s because they’re not the south east.

It’s the most cost effective solution the the capacity issues on the countries roads.

M25 isn’t the only congested motorway so it’s not as simple as just saying “move businesses out of the South East” loads of places have capacity problems.

Only a matter of time until all the m25 is managed motorways as well as most other bits of urban motorway.

    Thanks,

Will keep an eye on the road reports and see how the M25 is looking, if itlooking like it could be a pain I can adapt my journey accordingly!

    Traildog makes a good point.

The David Lloyd next to the Premier Inn is really good, we used to be members there until we moved. Pub the other side of it serves good food and has a couple of good beers on.

Best thing is that you can cycle form your door straight up to Healey Nab and round the reservoirs to Rivington.

There are trails, it’s just that the best ones aren’t terribly well signed.

There is a great bike shop in Lauterbrunnen called Imboden Bike and the guy in there is a keen rider. Best bet will to be to head into there for tips.

There has been a few threads on it before on here with some pics. Think it turns up with a search for lauterbrunnen in the advanced search!

Great place for a few days!

Top of the rock, walk around central park, loads of great places to eat and drink.

Quite a few threads on here about what to do there!

Personally my favourite city is Boston, it’s brill compared to NYC!

7 posts before a dig at someone for the car they drive! Well done!

I thought the reason that your weren’t meant to undertake is thattraffic was always meant to be in the left most lane unless they were overtaking, in which case you couldn’t undertake. Also it isn’t illegal to pass on the left, happens all the time in heavy traffic on motorways!

Do Americans have a rule to pull to near side lane unless overtaking?

Michaelmcc – yeah that’s one thing I noticed while skiing in whistler last season. The off piste bowls are all blasted and patrolled so your reasonably safe when skiing them, it was fantastic! Even got Mrs Crispo enjoying the powder. Unlike here in Europe where once you cross under the rope your on your own! Best to keep an eye on the avalanche risk that they normally display at the bottom of the lift.

FWIW I’d probably just got for a decent transceiver, probe and shovel (so long as you know how to use them correctly!!)

I lived there for a few years when I was younger, but went back 2 years ago as I took my GF as a birthday present.

Some of my tips would be just to walk around the old town. Walk Wencelas Square to Old Town square. Walk along the river to the National Opera house.

Go over Charles Bridge and up to the Castle, you get great views of the city from up there, also worth a look around is St Vitus Cathedral.

There is also a tower at the top of Petrin hill that has the best views of the whole city. You can either walk up or get the fenicular train.

Getting around wise the Trams are really good for getting round, good way of seeing the sights and getting around quickly.

Drink plenty of the local beer – I like Krusovice. Sample the local cuisine – The dumplings are actually really good.

Buy a guide book is the best tip though because as you walk round theres so many things youll wonder what they are that the guide is a great idea.

I am the biggest fan of Christmas. Which as a 25 year old guy is a bit lame.

Me and my fiance bought our first house this year so I cant wait to do all the christmassy stuff in our own home this year, decorate it, have friends and family over etc.

But I refuse to accept it before mid-November at the earliest. When there is still Haloween and Bonfire night to look forward to its not acceptable to play christmas songs in shops and have decorations up. I can accept that they might want to sell some stuff though which is ok as many people will need to spread the cost.

I’m currently 5 1/2 weeks from my first ever marathon.

Went out yesterday morning and did my 20 mile run. Took me 2hr47 so at least I’m feeling confident I should be able to do the full thing in sub 4hrs on the day!

Legs still a little sore today but at least I’m walking!

Looking forward to just switching back over to the bike once it’s done though.

Maybe they believe you are one of the customers affected by their massive cock-up last month and have somehow calculated what they owed you by way of compensation?

It actually says on the letter that is is specifically not related to the recent technical issues they had! Win!

    crispo

Oh right, well I’ve never had any issues with them, even when the stuff went down the other month.

Has anyone else had one of these letters about refunding charges though?

    crispo

Yeah those should be fine. One thing to remember with bindings DINs is that you never really want to be skiing with them all the way on the extreme (so either 3 or 11).
