We rode ‘swoopy’ on our Christmas eve morning bike ride and I must say its a cracking bit of trail.

The black bit at the end keeps you on your toes too which is great. One of our guys ended up in the stream at one point too which was very funny!

Can you remind me when the dig days are, I must come along and help at some point!

Planning abit of a walk in the forest of bowland tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting).

First ride of the year is Sunday morning and planning on doing Lee and Cragg quarry. Not been up there in ages and taking a mate for his first trip there so should be a good laugh!

If your starting off at Xscape then I would have thought you can use rental stuff to begin with. Depending on his age though he should soon progress onto seeing a big improvement with his own gear!

Hammerite – it will cost you ALOT!

Don’t get me wrong if jnr enjoys it they will get a lot out and become a fantastic skier! I raced for a few years and my skiing went up that step from advanced skier to the next level. All my friends thy I used to race with were alot better though as they had been doing it from a younger age.

It is very expensive though. As they progress you’ll be looking at multiple pairs of skis per season, lots of money on training, training camps, races etc.

I wish I had done it earlier though!

Thanks guys, few to look into there!

Does anyone know if there are still duathlons run at kielder/dalby/hammsterly anymore?

Going to try to run bike run on my return to the gym after the Christmas period tomorrow!

Why is it always the way that it snows just as you leave resort!?

Heading back home this morning but woken up to fresh snow and it’s still snowing here in Wengen!

At least I’m back two weeks today so fingers crossed it stays snowy!

    Good one for me!

Took up running this year in the summer with the aim of doing my first ever marathon in October. Managed to complete it in terrible conditions in 3.37 which I didn’t think was too bad for a first attempt.

This year will probably see me keeping doing a bit of running with the aim of entering a few mountain biking duathlons in the spring time then going to hopefully enter GNR in September. Will be aiming for 1.30 in that I think. Should be do-able!

I went on monday. Pretty good condition actually.

There were a few puddles in the regular places but generally it was in very good condition. The work the guys have been doing has really gone on the bits that needed it!

The new red section was open and it was a really cracking bit of trail!

Theres nothing new about these screens.

We’ve had them on the motorways for years and years already.

They’re generally only used when the carriageway is already fully closed for a fatality or a seriously injured when the police have taken control of the motorway. Its used to try and prevent rubbernecking (which can often cause accident on the opposite carriageway) and to try and maintain some privacy for the unlucky parties involved.

We’ve been waiting and waiting. Eventually I got sick of it today.

Tried to ring the depot, tried 27 times and not a single reply! Drove to it on my lunch break, waiting for 35mins before being told “sorry no one knows what’s happened to it, it’s most likely been taken by someone!”

    Brilliant service!

In Preston this year, judging by the fact I haven’t seen it snow at all yet I’d say it’s fairly low.

Spent last year in Switzerland though and we deffinately had a white Christmas!!

Edit: just checked the forecast 10c and raining here in Preston on Monday!

This sounds very much like a standalone system. I reckon it’ll just plug into the telly. No point having a big fancy AV receiver and then only using one output.

Hmm yeah possibly, will go up and have a look tonight! Thanks for the heads up!

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments. I appreciate there might be better speakers, but these ones are free so i’d rather try and just get an av receiver to minimise cost outlay.

Have spoken to my father in law and he says that all the speakers plug into the subwoofer and then you run that straight from the receiver apparently.

Its really the airplay that has attracted me to this av receiver, I know i shouldn’t base my choice on a gimmick but its something that will really come in handy for as I have been looking for for quite a while. I was looking at buying an airplay speaker or an airport extreme but this seems to fulfil both requirements.

How did the racing go today then!? We saw a couple of lads who were freezing cold and sopping wet!

We went up there and got caked, it really is sloppy up there right now!

So when we going to the pub/riding?

Been out for tea to an Italian called Piccolinos tonight. I’ve had a pint of Moretti, a glass of Valipollacella and an Amaretto to finish. Was delicious with tea!

Back at home and having a bottle of Peroni now!

Yep i’m based in Grimsargh, so thats 4 of us here now!?

If you want someone to show you round up the fell id be more than happy to come up too and show you round. Bare in mind its pretty wet and muddy at the moment so you might not get it in the best conditions but there still plenty to go at. If you add in the bridleway down to Hurst Green too (as Shibboleth mentioned) then you can start to build the miles in.

Its one of those places that you just need to go up and explore, theres loads of paths and fire roads that you can mix together!

Xiphon – going to ride up there tomorrow so will come see where youre racing tomorrow. Youre on the Bright orange orange yeah?

Xiphon, might come over and have a little look see. Where abouts are you meeting and what time?

Would be interested to see what route your taking plus if it’s for a good cause…..

Yeah, we rode it a week and a half ago and it’s was a mess, about the only rideable bits are the fire roads. Fingers crossed we get some cold weather soon. It’s great in the proper cold and snow!

I’d have definately been keen to come along to this after missing the last STW Preston Chapter ride, unfortunately we have friends visiting from London that weekend do its a bit bad form to clear off for the day.

There’s a few of us from Longridge/Grimsargh on here, how do we fancy sorting a ride sometime? The fell is rather boggy at the moment though….

We ride Longridge fell all the time. The fire roads and bridleways are legit but there’s loads of cheeky up there too.

Problem is that it’s very wet and boggy plus they have done a LOT of forresting up there so much has been chopped up and is now a lot more exposed than before.

I’m still heading up for a ride today though!

Me and my housemates made a video for our end of year ball when we were at Uni 4 years ago. No Go Pro footage unfortunately (we were all skint from skiing) but some funny crashes and the general banter from a year in Newcastle Uni ski club.

We had virgin cable at our old house (and I had had it for 4 years as a student too) but when we moved we went onto ADSL and its been completely crap since we moved. Getting about 0.2meg and when we moved we apparently paused out contract for free and were meant to get free installation in the new property but got shafted and charged twice and charged for installation in the end.

As soon as we are out of the years contract I am getting shot of them!

If you put a good amount of training in then Sub-2 hours is very do-able!

I decided to do my first marathon this year. Entered in April and ran it last week. Did a little bit of running in may, june, july (10k/week) and then really upped it in Aug, Sept, Oct (40km/week). I managed my marathon in 3hr 37mins. Went through the half in 1hr 40mins.

I am 25 though so do have youth on my side!
