If there is another building close by that you have access to that you can use the facilities in then I dont think they have to send you home.

This is purely based on my knowledge of CDM guidlines for the construction industry so could be completely wrong.

Thanks for the info, ill check back later in the week as the forecast is for mild weather so hopefully what icey patches there are should be gone.

Good to know its not looking like the weekend will be a write off anyway!

Fair play mol! I do consider it an event but I’m fairly young so in my life so far it’s one of the bigger moments.

My point was more why do some people feel the need to judge people for wanting to spend their hard earned on a gift for their loved one or themselves.

Those who said your a bell end for letting her buy you a nice watch for your engagement. Would/did you propose and say here’s a cheap ring and I’m giving the rest to charity or a savings account!?

You only get engaged once and it’s something you’ll have for the rest of your life so give him a break and let them spend their money on what they want without making them feel guilty!

    4. Two per cent of the Highways Agency budget should be earmarked for next generation cycle routes, providing £100 million a year towards world-class cycling infrastructure. Each year cities should be graded on the quality of cycling provision.

This doesnt really make sense to me. Sure you want to invest more in cycling related infrastructure but the HA network deals with very different things to what a cycle network would. Surely it would make more sense to take it from city councils where the cycling infrastructure would be utilised.

I mean youre not going to cycle from London to Manchester on a specific cycle route nor transport goods on it either!

I know youve probably got sorted by now but…..

Were going up to keswick next weekend. The other hostel is open that weekend and taking bookings, you just have to email them! I emailed them and got a 6 person room booked just the other week.

Well I was meaning the estate agents act 1979.

So basically we need to decide if we HAVE to have to house then we need to just put in the max we can, otherwise wait it out and see if being a FTB with deposit and mortgage in place is enough.

Surely Estate agents aren’t allowed to just make up a rival bidder!? I thought they were bound by some kind of rules?

We do really like it, but dont want to pay more than we have to.

Do I take it that if I do want to come back and change our offer it has to be enough to beat their offer or will they tell us if its not enough??

This is making for very interesting reading. We might be looking at putting an offer in on somewhere soon.

So here’s a little one for you which I would be interested on people take.

House we are looking at is currently on at £179,000
Went on the market at £195,000 in May 2011
Dropped to £179,000 in July 2011

Now it hasn’t so are the thoughts that people feel it is worth no where near the asking price or that they don’t want to sell anywhere under asking. I know they bought it for £52,000 in 2000 but it has had 2 extensions done and been fully renovated and decorated.

    Thoughts?

    +1 for Cruse Beverement counselling.

My mum is a counsellor for them so I know that they do some really good work and can help you come to terms with and the effects of losing a loved one even if it is a little while after.

Well I’ve only ridden 6 trail centres so I guess mine would have to be:

1)Glentress – I think deliverance is one of my favourite bits of trail anywhere but just for the shear quantity of good, flowy singletrack.
2)Whinlatter – The long downhills make the climbs up worth it everytime!
3)Inners – Only road it once but thought it was a great ride
4)Gisburn – local trails and I really respect the work put in as you see it constantly evolving
5)Grizedale – TNF isnt great in itself but add in some bridleway action for a good day out.

The only other one i’ve been to that didnt make the cut is hammsterly. Just didnt really do it for me.

    PC laptop or Mac?

We use a vga cable that goes straight from the computer into the back of the telly then works on one of the AV channels.

If you have a Mac you will need the relevant mini-hdmi to vga adaptor I think.

We have a Natwest ‘Your Points’ card.

Basically get points for every pound you spend on the card. Can be redeemed on anything from days out, cases of wine, flights, vouchers for high street etc.

We chose it as I was already with Natwest so meant it was easy to pay off the balance each month as its on the same online banking plus you get a little something for spending what you were already going to.

    Lenses, generally speaking:

If you intend to ski in bright sunlight then you need to go for reflective type.
If you will wear glasses in bright sun and only use goggles in flat light then you need something with a low light lens (oakly permission i think) these tend to be orange of yellow in colour.

Some set of goggles will come with a few sets of lenses that you can easily pop in and out to change.

Yeah I guess the three deals are pretty good, what are they like signal wise?

The reason I had wanted the new vodafone offer is that it was a lot better than the competitors, without that deal though I might just switch providor as theres no real reason for me to stick with them if they cant beat the other offers.

Will try ringing vodafone on my lunch break and see what I can do, theyre online chat people are useless!

Its just annoying that I can take up their offer but have to change my number (which I cant do because i use it for work purposes)

Rats -are those just the normal footpaths above Wengen and from Wurren down to Lauterbrunnen? When you rode around Wengen how high did you take your bike up on the train?

My parents have a place that has that exact view of the waterfall (its by the river between the two campsites). I MUST get out there this summer with the bike and do some exploring!

If you go up one sky scraper go up the Rockafeller Centre, amazing views over mid town, central park and the empire state building. The do a dawn and dusk ticket where you go up once during the day and once at night, it looks so different in day and night!

Also my tip for breakfast/brunch has to be Pershing square opposite grand central station, amazing!

you do realise how much of the 5 years payments go towards paying interest and how much goes towards capital repayment don’t you?

Yes but at some point sooner or later I will have to do this anyway! No?

5 years of rent is about £40K so either we stay put renting and give that to my landlord or I make the payments off a mortgage?

Kryton – we are also looking at first time buying at the moment. When I started a thread about this the other week I got a lot of warnings about the risks of getting into negative equity if house prices fall.

I am looking at it with very crude numbers but if we say buy and live there for 5 years it has to devalue by 5 years worth of rent to make it worth while not buying but renting? Or am I completely wrong with that?

If you like asian kind of food the Tampopo is really good. Lots of good noodles and currys.

Just outside the triangle and service is usually pretty sharpish.

Yeah i’m finding it interesting reading too. The link up there to that northern bit of the PB is particularly usefull.

Im thinking of entering my first Kielder 100 this year so im starting to look at practice rides. I might look at getting dropped off in Kirkby Stephen then doing the PB down to settle, then its just 20ish miles back on the road. Could be a good training ride.

Im heading up there for the weekend in february as a group of 5 guys. Will be interested to see what people say here…..

We will def be after a beer session after a day riding Whinlattter/Borrowdale Bash rather than a night on the tiles.
