We had a cracker up Rivington last night!

Parked up at the Black Dog in Belmont, rode round to rivvy, down the ice cream run, past the barn all the way to the resevoir, back up past lower barn and up to the top where we messed about on sets of steps and too some cheeky all the way back down, then another trip all the way back to the transmitter and a lovely flowing decent all the was down San Marino to finish. Where a pint of Holt IPA and salt and vinegar McCoys rounded it off nicely.

Trails were in perfect condition and plenty of bikers out enjoying it, good times! :D

    Its pretty good actually.

There are a couple of board walk sections that can be slippy in the wet, but generally its pretty good as all built to drain.

Im going tomorrow evening in the rain so can let you know what its like after the soaking were due tonight!

What actually is there in the way of good stuff in Brinscall woods? I always used to follow the main path either that runs along the top and then comes down at the white coppice end of the woods. Is there some better more fun stuff up there?

Would that be the same process/bits as doing a Stumpjumper FSR? Mine is creaking and developed a bit of play so need to replace them but cant decide whether to LBS it or try myself?

Head out of ambleside towards coniston and go to the Drunken Duck Inn. Fantastick food and it had its own brewery!

Giving someone a lift on your bike seat while you stand up is called a ‘Croggy’. Apparently its not Lancashire but in Lincolnshire thats what it was referred to as!

You’ll want something pretty waterproof for the winter in Whistler. Whistler town itself isnt that high so whilst they get loads of snow on the hill it will often rain or turn quickly to slush lower down.

If you are working out there and have a season pass you get 20% (I think) off at any of the shops owned by the resort, most of these will have a fairly comprehensive range of walking boots.

I’m sure jealousy and envy are the same thing, google thinks they are!

I thought it was just a light hearted joke about how I’d rather be biking in BC than at work, surely that appeals to most on here!?

Too right about the black pudding though binners, that and Darwen Moor!

From my window I can see 3 hills that are 1150ft, 1670ft and 1830ft. I dont think I live in the mountains but it is still beautiful to cycle around (even if it does rain alot)!!

Right, thanks for the comments. I had a play around last night before I went out for a ride. Ive taken a picture of the bit I have figured out as the bit that has developed play.

Is that bit the bushing then?

Just seen this and its prompted me to do mine. People had always mentioned it but been vague about what the form actually was. Hopefully I will be getting some money back from the Tax man soon too!

    1. Yes
    2. Most deffinately, ive always wanted to explore more up there but always been abit uncertain of how to link bits up.
    3. Yes – kind of ties in with q5 but with more facilities and trails it could be a lot more of a full day out then just a morning ride up to the quarries and back.
    4. Always good to have somewhere to shelter from the beautiful conditions up there….
    5. I think out of those toilets, a bike wash (i know not on the list but would be good) and a cafe would be best.

Thats the way i’ve done. By doing it that way it makes the climb rideable and the descenet nice and steep.

People will always debate it though…..

When at uni there we relyed on this alot:

    http://www.beyond-hamsterley.co.uk/%5B/url%5D

In terms of actually cycleable distance from the city centre there is only really chopwell woods, which is alright, but the majority need a car and are a few miles outside to the south. Also plenty in Northumberland too but we didnt tend to go that was as much.

When I was social secretary of Newcastle University Ski Club we took our old pairs of skis and did 1 of 2 things.

    1. Get some cheap shot glasses and super glue. Glue shot glasses onto ski and you have a shot ski to partake in ‘team building’

    2. Get a 3 funnels, a length of hose and a drill. Drill 3 holes in the ski. Attach the lengths of hose to the funnells and place these through the holes in the ski. Now you have the perfect item for drinking races. We used to get two of these and race them against each other as an alternative to a boat race. Its astonishing the speed at which it goes down…..

(I shouldnt really promote this kind of behaviour however it was great fun at Uni)

Hate to say this but the same thing happened to my fiances brother about a month a go. Brnad new Macbook (only had it 2 days) and spilt a pint of Blonde Witch over it.

Wouldnt power up or any of the keys on the key board work. He took it into Apple shop and it is completely borked. The first quoted £700 to fix the bits to get it to power up and then they could see what was still knackered. Phone call alter that week saying it was completely knackered.

Dont know where he is at with it now, was going to try take it into a local computer place to see if they can fix it.

He hadnt even had a chance to take out or add it to any insurance yet……

Its not our first night, we did have a chippy tea the day we got the keys!

Well CFH I was pondering if I would want to just enjoy it on its own but I want to cook up something to have after that will go nicely.

Liking the Nachos idea however we did have Enchiladas for dinner last night (and leftovers for lunch now)

To be honest it is a very good point.

Compare it to some where like Switzerland. One price is what you see and pay for each train fare, no quadroupling of price if you want to travel at a peak time, a single is half a return, same price no matter when you book.

    Thanks for the comments all.

Job is as a graduate civil engineer. I have looked at my contract and it does say that they may require me to move location due to the ‘modular nature’ of the graduate scheme. It does also say they will give me 6 months notice of any move. Its looking like they might want me to move within the month at the moment.

Will have to give some real consideration to what I should do. Whilst I know that the graduate scheme is a stepping stone up the ladder I think I will struggle to pay lodgings, commuting, livingg costs away from home as well as my outgoings back at home too.

Doesnt help that we are meant to be getting married next year and this will mean I am working away up until then too!

    Youth hostel in keswick.

We did whinlatter and Borrowdale, had we had another day we would have done skiddaw too!

Keswick is good as lots of ammenities and pubs for the evening.

Looking to see what the other good suggestions are.

Personally I rate Whinlatter a lot higher than Grizedale (in terms of the trail centre trails). There is a blue trail which, whilst not being long, is still good fun anyway.

The north and south loops of the red are both great fun. My personal favourite bit is the descent from the top of the south loop all the way back down, its great fun and goes on for ages!

Keswick makes a good place to be based for a biking weekend, we did whinlatter one day and Borrowdale bash the next.

I really like Gisburn, its got some good sections all the way round rather than just having one really good section and the rest being a bit rubbish.

Favourite sections have to be Home Baked and Hully Gully though, always grin inducing!

There is the new hope line which is good to have a play on (only ridden a bit of it in the soaking wet when it had just opened so cant comment too much) but you can just do a couple of goes on there during the ride or on the way back if youre parking at Dog and Partridge.

Might try and head up there myself this weekend actually……

One of my most enjoyable pints ever had to be a pint of Windermere Pale at the Hawkshead brewery at Staveley after a trip round Kentmere….Superb!

Usual post ride drink is Moorhouse Blonde Witch.
