Jon, thanks for the link. I will do the clutch rebuild but mine’s just the front ring I’m sure.

I don’t see the point of the iWatch (other than to sell more devices), but the thing about battery life misses the point. It’s a computer, not a watch. If you use your laptop all day its battery will also die.

Well it doesn’t miss the point for me. I agree that it’s a “digital device” rather than a watch; but it’s yet another device, with its own dedicated charger, which needs regular charging, and needs the phone.

As you have to have an Iphone 5 or above to use it, it’s doubly pointless.

Having seen the price on the apple store for the 6 plus did I miss something? I thought I heard 499 USD, which has translated in to 789 GBP for the 128GB, 699 GBP for the 64GB and 619 for the 16GB.

    http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-iphone/iphone6

    As they said on CNet:
The watch will appeal to people with disposable income…and who want to remain single :)

I’d agree with gaz, XX1 isn’t quiet at all. I’ve had the cassette off twice to check, and no stiff link. BB also on the correct spacing.

Certainly “noisier” in a mechanical way than slx, xt or xtr.

For a company that likes to think of itself at the cutting edge, the irony of dragging on U2 seems lost.

Think I could be tempted by the 128GB 6 as well.

I can live without thinner – I might sit on it in my back pocket and break it (and I’m no lard ass).

As for that performance graph, oh dear.

Apparently “the biggest advancement in iPhone history” according to Tim Cook. So far I’m assuming he’s referring to the price.

Froome just comes across as a really humble guy (really enjoyed his autobiography as well). I lol’d at Valverde’s comments about AC, Purito and he being the best riders before today’s stage. He was obviously thinking it was game over after yesterday for Froome. AC looked great today but really suffered on Saturday. Who knows if he can he win…

Or could a three week stage race really come down to a 10k time trial?!

I thought the ITT was on Sunday? Pointless stage really. Would only ever be exciting if there were 15 secs or so splitting the lead.

The last 3 days have been brilliant. On the first stage it was good to see everyone on their limit. Friday and more likely Saturday will be the decider. Froome still has a chance I think

That handbags ^^ incident today was a joke. What a pair of muppets

Too much air in the tyre? What psi do you have in there?

As mike says it looks fine but you could lose some of the spacers under the stem.

As this is your first post are you new to cycling / MTB? ( back to technique).

    Welcome by the way

Post a pic of your bike. A 6 inch stem is massive by the standards of the last 15 years so assuming you’ve not swapped it I imagine you’re on a bike from the early / mid 90s? (Though 5 inch was usually the max).

It could easily be technique related as well as with such a long stem you should have weight over the front.

Edited: note to self, read the op :)

I would love to get a 301. But am not allowed or able to spend that much money on a bike.

I put mine together for 3500 all in. Xx1, pikes, reverb etc. Still not exactly cheap but you just need to keep an eye out for deals.

Damn you guys. I am tempted by this now as I’m getting fed up having loads of tool boxes.

    I’m not convinced that’ll be the outcome. It’s a bit like bikes, n + 1.

seems that the online system lags behind the store stock system and they didn’t have stock of the larger unit shown in bigshep’s photo

I got the same story when I turned up and the guy who served me was absolutely useless. I took the display model and they knocked another 10 % off so I bought another one of these (my existing one is a bit knackered after years of abuse). It makes a really good bike tool box.

Got my 6 year old Wilier Mortirolo and just bought a Canyon CF SLX, so more by accident than design. Wilier = winter bike now with guards.

    Reverb stealth.
    Arch ex hoops (26)
    MT6s
    XTR pedals

Rubber queens ( the light ones)

26 lb 10 oz. On ultimate digital scales before anyone says “no way”

    Love it

I’d go for the t5 (mostly because that’s like mine… Minus wheels and bars).

I was talking to an AA man a couple of days ago who said there’s “no comparison” between their old t5 fleet and the new transits. (That was to repair another car before anyone says it :) ).

Got the SLX and Im really impressed with it. Have you seen the endurace? They look great and a bargain to boot. Canyon however were the worst company Ive ever dealt with.

Im 5 10, it’s M and pretty stretched with the std stem. SL is a little shorter IIRC, but not much.

Yes, I loaded up a OSM European ski map on an 800 alongside the OS maps and it picked it up, though these covered different areas.

If you have 2 maps covering the same area I find it easier to enable / disable them so you only have the one you want active. I use the OS maps offroad but there’s a bit too much detail to read them easily when on road.

In the menu on the Garmin it tells you which maps are on the card and their status (Enabled / Disabled).

I nearly bought a beach when they came out. I’d specced a fairly loaded 140 that was coming out at something like 38k. I’ve just tried it again and the same van is ~44k.

Both these prices were on autoebid. Basically there are far fewer deals around today it would seem which is a shame as I was thinking about swapping this summer. A few VW leisure dealers have closed in the last 2 years as well so there are far fewer vans available.

    OP, DSG is fantastic.
I’d also get the parking heater from the factory.
I’d ditch the reversing camera as a factory option. Get an aftermarket one fitted to the base of the rear spoiler rather than in the numberplate. This is better if you go for a towbar & atera rather than the VW rack.
I do like my climatronic, so would probably spec it but not tried the std aircon.
Cruise is great on the Motorway.
If you’re going to colder climes the the laminated glass and double glazing are also worth considering (they’re options on the beach, may be std on the SE)

    the edition 25 style california

That was a Caravelle only model IIRC, though I’ve seen beach models with the same white / black paintwork. Dealer specials I believe.

It’s a personal thing, but I prefer the flexibility of a beach over the SE. I always saw it as a halfway house between the Caravelle and the SE…basically a Caravelle with a poptop which is my ideal van.

There’ll be some sore legs after yesterday. I can see them testing Nibali on the Izoard to see if he’s more spent than the rest of the field, but he’s such a good descender he stands a decent chance of pulling back time before the climb to Risoul.

The Risoul climb is nasty. If anyone held anything back yesterday they stand a good chance of pulling away in a break or if they’re GC it’s definitely a climb where you can open up a big gap because of the sustained gradient.

Should be a great day IF anyone’s got anything left.

I really like that first pic, and thanks for the settings advice – may try tonight / tomorrow depending on what happens with the weather.

Been using this link that someone posted earlier to track the storms.

Thought about doing it (Medium Mk 11) but stuck with 26. If I was doing anything I’d stick a 650 on the front first to try it. Yes it’ll slacken it a little and raise the bb, but there’s not a huge difference from 26 to 650 anyway.

No. Slightly peeved as I ordered on Fri with “next day” delivery. I should have known but the checkout didn”t have any T”s and C”s that I could see, so took a punt thinking I”d get it on Saturday. Tracked delivery confirmed for Monday, and on the RM site it gives you the terms for the service CRC use )it only tells you the actual service in the despatch confirmation.

    Haven’t used CRC in ages.

Shorts are great, tops are poor IME. As with Teetosugars above the stitching on the pockets pulls apart. I’ve had that on 2 morvelo tops.

I seem to remember the shorts were 60 or 70 just a few years ago when I started buying them. They are excellent though.

a 2 Cable version would be v useful for fitting a Rohloff or Nuvinci 360

If they’re bolt on have a look at Liteville / Syntace – the ones on a 301 come in 1, 2 and 3 varieties and can all be bought separately. Best bet to source them is from Germany; such as Hibike

I think you’ll have a great time. Any reason you want to do the HPT rather than the Tissington trail?

For a 7 year old I’d do the Tissington trail, partly because there are some good places to stop – like the sweet shop in Tissington, and it’s a lot less exposed.

As above, the rise up to Middleton Top will be a drag for him, and there’s another though small rise just shortly after. From there it’s a nice but more exposed ride up to Parsley Hay.

If you want to do the 54A route you should be fine as there’s little traffic in Hopton and Bradbourne. Just be careful crossing the roads around Carsington. The slog is the hill from Tissington splash (Ford) up to Tissington…I doubt he’ll like that! Also by linking up on the 54 you loose ALL the height you worked to gain, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Royal Oak is a brilliant pub, and the food is fantastic. At 7 he’d love the play area at the Bull in Monyash just down the road (but it’s not great ride back to the Royal Oak from there for a 7 year old. The road can get busy and it’s a very long drag).

Weather is OK here. No rain all day, about 15c and it’s apparently much nicer tomorrow.

You’d be better off looking for some SH air sprung forks if they really do need suspension because of how & what they’re riding.

They’re apparently 3.8 lbs (for a 20″) which will just weigh a kids’ bike down.
