My foes xct-5 is extremely rigid. Thors, XTR, tune etc it comes in at 27.7.

Marta Mags arrived today, which will take off a little but will add far more with NNic UST 2.25s that are also about to go on. 26.5 is poss but i wanted trail reliability.

Have you thought about buying a cheap windows mobile / ppc device (50), a Navman B10 or similar (20) and get something like Mapyx Quo? If OS maps are important to you they do the cheapest OS tiles.

I got the Pro MTB. I can’t fault it at that price point. The handling and balance are particularly impressive, never mind the kit. It makes my Whyte a bit superfluous really.
A colleague went for the Team Alu road bike, again he’s really impressed with it.

If I was a cynic Halfords refusal to provide access to Merlin, Focus, Cube, and Ribble (they mentioned a few others) could be seen as a marketing ploy to drive up demand for Boardman’s as you can’t get their main price point rivals. I expressed my annoyance about this over the phone, and the reason they gave was they couldn’t agree commercial terms. Whether thats true is not the issue but it’s very convenient for Halfords.

They are a pain to set up initially due to the single valve for both chambers. Once set up they are extremely plush. The recommended air pressures are far too low though, and you end up with ridiculous sag. With another 15-20 PSI over the recommended I’m now really pleased with the way mine are working. They are a bit disconcerting as they eat in to their available travel quickly. I haven’t had the top-out clunk, but I agree the remote lock-out lever is poorly designed. I never use it,I just put AS+ on for the climbs and it’s great.

What makes them particularly attractive for me is how stiff they are in relation to their weight. Overall, a faff to get set up initially, but I’m now really happy with them.

Now don’t let me stop you doing another 30 miler with a hangover on Sunday. Remember you are the fit buggers, I’m there for the Mcewans, fry up at Erics and the prospect of freezing my tits off in the barn.

Anyway how can you say that…I could do the Sunday…but you’d have a 7 year old riot on your hands if he misses the BMX regionals.

Mark I’m pleased it was my ugly mug in the prospectus that brought you there. If I’d known that in advance though I’d have got Justin to do it ;)

To give you another option we had a VauDe. Pretty similar to the Macpac and nice and comfy.
