Same noise on my wife's Boardman pro with Elixir Rs. I'd assumed there was too much fluid, so pushing the pistons out further, and hence causing the squeal. As it's the wife's bike I haven't checked properly though yet :)

One of my MTBs is in their gallery. Looks nice but not particularly durable – and this is a garage queen.

Unless you want a fade or something fancy, powder is the way to go for durability, though some powder coaters can do fades as well now.

Missed this first time round. Another good vid Will. It's about 5 miles from me so I may well bump in to you folks there. Say hi if you see someone on a grey foes. If anyone wants to give me a slow (still recovering from a broken leg) tour I'd appreciate it :) email addy in my profile.

Redline flite junior – ~14.7 lbs :) They're really nicely built and specced.

    Spec Hotrock – too heavy

170 cranks are too long – more like 155-160 for a 7 year old

    SID WC / Team
Durin SL (not recalled) / Race (were recalled)

The SL's are a weight weenie choice while still being incredibly stiff. Limited adjustability though (if that's important).

SID Team, and Durin Race are the best choice if you don't want to spend too much.

Just fitting some SID WC's :)

Trout, having seen the pictures and vids of your previous work, isn't 2000 Lumens just pointlessly bright?

If I was after a compromise between brightness and runtime what's the right thing in your stable? Something that I could get around 3 hours out of a single pack and "bright enough" (whatever that is? 600 L?) for night racing / riding.

A switch would be nice to drop the output as a "get you home" mode as well.

    Cheers.

Id be interested in what you think. Ive been thinking about one of these, especially as prices are coming down with the launch of the 800 PTE. The g3 gps unit is an absolute rip off though.

    Yes Quo will support it.

I quite like the derby one, feels realy quick, even if it is more mini BMX track than pump track.

As for pumping the whole of the track, surely impossible without pedaling the second corner, that third straight is mahoosively tall?

Don't get me wrong, the pump track is OK, and the berms do launch you, but that's not where the design effort went.
As implausible as it sounds, yes the track can be pumped. I have witnessed it on a few occasions (namely when we had the National champs) and a lot of riders came to practice in the preceeding weeks. One pedal rotation permitted off the gate. My PB is almost to the end of the 2nd straight :)

I'd echo the comments that pump tracks are fantastic for building and improving your handling and skills; particularly cornering and rythm. If you compete then pumping is invaluble as it allows to to gain speed where you can't pedal (terrain permitting).

If you're ever at the track come and say hello. I normally have two kids in tow – one on a Redline Flight junior and another on a decathlon special. As of last week my daughter decided she liked BMX after all, though I think that's just a ploy to get another bike :)

If they're the brown seals it might be worth replacing with the blue ones. The brown ones were known to fail.

Like the Ambergate vids Will – have you got it mapped? I didn't think there was that much riding there.

Mapyx Quo – cheaper than both for OS tiles, and simple to use.

You can download the demo free.

I have seen the bmx track in alavaston. There is a bmx skate park as well. Have they also recently built a pump track?

Your location is right but the image on Google Earth / maps is the old track
The pump track is to the right of the start hill. It's nothing to write home about (unlike the BMX track); certainly not in the same league as the ones in the earlier vids but it serves a purpose.

This is a better vid from when we hosted our first inter-regional (and later a National) this year. MTB's welcome. Come practice, and race cruiser class. Pumping technique, manualing etc all coached at out club sessions. Advert over :)

You know that pumping technique works when you can get round the entire Derby track without pedalling. I still have some practicing to do :)

try and get hold of some pics of the new pump track in Derby, its ace, the corners are so tight you feel like your going to ride out the top of the berm despite it going upto vertical!!

The one at the Alvaston BMX track? It's good but – 1) it's not long enough, 2) it could do with some longer straights 3) you can't rinse and repeat. Too many step ups and not enough rollers. I can take some pics next week if needed. The ones in those vids are far better.

I was listening to some Smiths remastered singles on spotify earlier. I don't like the "improvement". I much prefer the sound of the originals.

When you get them set up properly; which when you've done it once is straightforward, they're very nice forks (apart from the stupidly designed plastic travel adjuster). It can be infuriating though when you're doing it. There's enought tips on the forums though to minimise your pain.

If you can wait get the 2010 model as they've also changed (dropped) the height of the AS+ platform adjuster (gold knob). I had to fit a stacker to stop it striking the downtube.

    That review was pretty useless.

Got mine from Steptoes as well. I have polarized lenses so no vents. They do sit very close to my face. Not been on the bike with them yet so I don't know if they heat up when riding. The positive about that though is they'll be good for skiing / boarding as well, without having to resort to goggles.

You'll probably get some more airflow / cooling with the vents – but I doubt you'll notice.

Abdou? No way. Yes he stuck his elbows out but did very little else. Therest of the riders all had "super domestique" qualities that let them do all sorts of different roles. Abdoujaparov was a one trick pony.

We were adopted by a feral kitten; usually refered to as "Feral" or "Squeaker". Neither my wife or I were cat lovers so it's proven to be a suprising experience. The kids spotted her in the field in the snow looking worse for wear so insisted on feedng it. It wouldn't come near anyone initially but over a period of a few weeks we moved the bowl in to the house. Food seemed to be the key. She doesnt meow, all she does is "squeak"!

She's "resident", coming into the house for food, sleep or to attack our ankles. She bring us copious ammounts of shrews and other wild life in return, coming and going as she pleases, though she goes outside at night.

She's still very wild. She doesn't go to anyone else bar our immediate family and she certainly doesn't appreciate the presence of any other cats. If we had another cat we'd get another feral one just because she has so much charachter and independance.

Am i being well over the top here and getting my knickers in a twist for nothing

With the current attack rate and mortality figures, yes; absolutely.

    Yay Kloden!!!

That's a hell of a pace they're setting. If contador is allowed to attack he will win. I think he''' be defensive and give Armstrong and Kloden a free hand to unsettle the Schlecks and Wiggo.

    Glorious views today!

That's been a hallmark of this tour. I'm a bit of a Francophile and I like the programmes live for the scenery as much as anything else. I'm tempted to get Sky HD next year.

hehe…Images just shown, along with a seaplane "dumping its load" – there you go. Looks pretty big.

Harmon is getting v excited as to whether it's a chemical or water load. Oh dear. Smith thinks it's foamy. It's like a "Carry on" film

Eurosport are now talking about a big Forest Fire on Ventoux! They can see the smoke from where they're commentating. They did say the wind was easing on the top. If it was as bad as they were suggesting I'd have thought Tour TV would be showing images of it.

IF it's a million on there (which I doubt) it's apparently equivalent to 7 deep all the way up.

It would make an interesting televised execution if one of them does get in the way. I like the idea of giving the outriders tazers.

Hyperbole? "A violent storm is underway at the top of Ventoux". NW wind which means a headwind to crosswind they're saying. Nasty!

    Crell
    Free Member

Eurosport saying that there's 110 KPH winds at the top! If it's a headwind or crosswind it'll be awful, and make attacking so much more difficult.

I can't wait for this. So many people need to attack.

I hope there's fireworks with Kloden and Armstrong, can't see him annoying his new boss though.

…apparently 2.5 k people (out of about 9 K) abandoned the Etape according to Roche! That's attrition.

Recovering very well thanks Justin. I've been working from home for the last couple of weeks but I'm back in Leeds /London again from next week. I've been "walking" for about 2 weeks which is nice :)
Been out and spun on the bike once, which is easier than walking and no, of course you're not rubbing it in!

Have you heard how Frase did in the Mega?

With his GC position and defecit of 1.5 mins on Frank Schleck, I wonder if Nibali might try a dig today? It would be interesting if Astana let Kloden ride for it today, as that would force everyone else to chase but I'd be suprised if they do. What a weekend – Ventoux and the Donnington MotoGP.

Millar interviewed on Eurosport after he finished. He reckons that Wiggo will take 3+ mins out of Frank Schleck and 2 to 2.5 on Andy Schleck. He also said the climb is over 3 K though and the last 500m pretty hard.

I don't see how rain wouldn't hurt later riders. Even if it's not too technical they'll definately be more cautious on the corners.

I'm just praying it stays dry

can't get the live ITV feed i work through a dutch network, and i can't get the dutch feed as the firewall blocks it

ITV4 shows 20 minute ad packages with 5 minutes of cycling in between.

    Try http://www.p2pstation.net, http://www.justin.tv, and http://www.cyclingfans.com

P2P and Justin normally have the Versus / ITV stream

Its ok, i think theyre dead.

Nope, when he hits 30 MPH they flap their little wings. It's like a boost button with an eco. angle, and totally within ASO/UCI regs. I think that's the most interesting of all the bikes in that "collection".

docking pro tour points means nothing as being pro tour is not based on merit or performance.

True! You've got to penalise the responsible rider ultimately, but I'd make the directeur sportif accountable. They should have a licence tallying up the doped rider numbers in their team over the years. The likes of ASO could use it to weight their team's inclusion in to the TDF. If it was use on the scale of Cofidis though that's a different ball game that needs stronger measures.

Except their competitors don't get the advantage of how fast they ride in the TTT – that's the crunch.

One doping rider in the TTT won't make a massive impact. They'll still do turns so their performance boost is factored by the rest of the team. I was really pleased to see the TTT back this year but it's buggered the GC by not capping the losses, or using the old "bonus" system. Have a look at this table. It shows what the GC would have looked like with the TTT removed after Verbier. It's a very different picture.

There is no easy answer though, but you knew that already :)
