I have UST and non UST NNs on on two bikes, running tubeless. Both are fine, though the non UST's do deflate more quickly. The UST's are heavy, and I really notice the difference in rolling resistance.

I put a tube in one due to a ding in the rear rim – punctured on the first ride out due to a huge thorn. When I converted it from tubeless, I pulled 7 thorns out of the tyre. Tubeless makes a lot of sense (with a tube as backup)

I hate it if it's wet. Broke my ankle / leg on Cannock "northshore" pootling along it.

Ignoring the flaming, signage for a road crossing doesn't strike me as a bad idea overall!

Is there a map for the new stuff yet? Just interested to see where it leaves / joins FTD.

Please tell us it's all on video, though I shouldn't mock this eggstremely serious situation.

Another product of the early 70's school system here having had my left-handedness knocked out of me. I'm now "confused". I write, hold a knife & fork and use a mouse with my right hand. Throwing, kicking and other sporty stuff (leading foot) is with the left.

So if this Whyte carbon weighs 20.5 lbs then there are some "beyond optimistic" claims on this thread. That's my entry by the way.

Take the RER as above – If you're arriving any time between 8 and 10 it'll take you an hour plus in a taxi or err "limo". It's an awful journey in (and out) form CDG.

Where do the Goldwings go from? That's worth knowing about.

19 carbon however, is a very different beast – full on race machine. long, light, fast! (not very comfy though)

My 19 Carbon is much more comfortable over any distance than my 19 alloy.

Does look nice but I'm a bit concerned about the lack of a Manual / shutter speed / apperture mode – or are they just called something else?

They're on the one replacing it… Bargain compact though.

Corian – you can do all sorts of interesting stuff shape wise with it, and get that hospital / hotel* look. (*delete depending on your preference)

So what's the runtime on H / M / L for the Trout LL users as I need something for Mountain Mayhem this year. Anyone have any pics with the larger Smudge battery? I want to see a setup as the "no wires" of the maxx-d is pretty appealing as a no hassle alternative.

I've had mine for about 6 months, and it's become my regular ride, pretty much regardless of the weather. It's comfy enough on longer rides and as an XC race bike it's not that much of an "arse in the air and head down" ride – well certainly not as I've set mine up.

Clearances have coped with everything until last weekend where it got overwhelmed with some good old Derbyshire Somme mud.

Only niggles for me are the PITA headset in terms of limiting what you can fit, and I've had the R mech hanger come loose. That's it! I also have an alloy 19 and prefer the carbon. More info on the bike and build on the link.

I know the rough weights (bathroom scales) of 2 bikes inc pedals

20.4 lbs ( own build whyte 19 carbon ) and 27.5 Lbs (foes XCT5, but currently heavier with UST tyres)

Of the ones I have, I've yet to hear a digitally remastered version I prefer over the original. The sound is usually less warm and thinner. I know lots of sound engineers might say different, but that's what my ears tell me. Or is that the analog vs digital debate? Who cares. Listen before you buy if you can.

I'm not a serious racer by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought (wrongly?) that intervals would bring a bit of structure to my time on the trainer. I'll do a couple of road sportives, and possibly D2D as well this year but I'm a weekend warrior at best.

So are you (collectively) suggesting that I shouldn't even bother with this type of training, or that I'm just way too early for it?

If nothing else, won't it help me MTFU and build some pain tollerance as well as the ability to put in bursts of sustained effort on my normal riding?

    Cheers!

Wrightyson, you're evidently the most local of locals! So in deference…

I'll rephrase my comment to "my experience with the food in the visitors centre has been pretty good (particularly the bacon butties);…as was the hog roast and bbq for "locals" when they opened the centre in 1992. However I can't claim to have eaten the same quantity of food as a former employee, nevertheless my experience has been pretty good".

I can still confirm the Knockerdown is crap…in fact it's off the scale. I can't think of anywhere locally I'd be less likely to recommend – particularly on a summer's day.

I can still confirm that the Miners is currently very quiet…the emphasis was / is on "currently" as that's when the OP was intending to ride. Summertime and boule nights are a totally different matter.

If you're still around I'd love it if you could show me the local trails, though you don't quite sound as local as you once were ;)

Anyway, hope the OP had a nice ride with the kids.

Saw it on the TV in the run up to the Olympics. That's the face of adrenalin if ever there was one.

The "arctic man[/url]" race he did with his BBC skiing compadre Bell looked pretty cool. 90 Mph behind a skidoo – mad.

    ^^ watch it from 33:50

off to buy a new battery for the HRM then…

So should I be doing 95% of max HR in the "9.5 / 10" effort zones?

I hope that one day I too can think I'm taking it easy at 188 BPM 8O

    Cheers!

Well, the effort on the intervals is at 9.5/10 or 10/10 …so to me that's flat pretty close to flat out (for 1m 45 aaaaaargh!!!) or am I misunderstanding it?

In a sick way I kinda enjoyed it :)

Am I better off trying to guage it with a HRM?

The Knockerdown is an absolutely awful pub. The Miners is much better, with reasonable food, beer and good service. Neither are busy at this time of year.

The food at the visitor centre is usually pretty good – but it can get packed out. Again, not too much of a problem this time of year.

Instead of going over the dam wall, you can turn right as you approach the wooden gate / fence at the start of the dam. Go across the road, then follow the track (nice fast downhill) that will take you down to Hognaston. The Red Lion there is a great pub. She might have to push back up the hill towards the dam wall carpark though but it's worth it as a detour for a really good pub.

Same here. Those final 2 laps in the 7.5k 4 man relay were fantastic with Sumann and the Russian guy. Talk about holding your nerve. 11 Olympic medals as well for Bjorndalen (sp?).

I've really enjoyed the XC skiing but the biathlon is just another step up. How the hell they compose themselves when they're so knackered is incredible. I'll come over to cannock and take some pot shots with you.

Agree on the 125cc being the best close racing. Not always, but much more likely than the GP bikes. Some of them are mad!

Haga must be sick after last season (and all his other near misses). Mentally I can't see him being in the right mind for it – I'd like to be proven wrong though.

All the Brits are good riders and most look to have good (historically) packages. Shakey's probably the least secure along with the Kawasaki riders.

I'd like to see Redding and Webb in M2 / 125 put their injury and mechanical misfortunes behind them and have a decent season. They're both really talented riders who show occasional brilliance.

You can watch it on the "Eurosport Player" on T'interweb by the way for those without satellite. It's just a couple of quid a month and it works well.

…Can't wait for it to get started

I've got some Racing 7's which are OK, not exactly lightweight though. A bit of a clicky freehub, but nothing like a hope for noise. Theyre pretty stiff as well. Have a look at the on one "model B", though they're not "blingy" like the Fulcrums.

R5's are 150 at Merlin – If you need Campag & can cope with the less bling silver. Merlin have some decent wheel offers on, as do Planet X.

She'll be fine at 9 doing the full loop. It's only the first section after the Dam wall car park that has hills you can't avoid now. They've put in a low path as you approach Hopton, but go up the (steep) hill as it's the best bit (descent) of the whole ride. There's a good play area for kids as well at the main centre. Go in an anti-clockwise direction as well.

If you park at Sheepwash there's a barrier across the road which is a pain if you put the bikes on the roof.

Our local has had a few temporary publicans. The current is one utterly unwelcoming and bordering on just plain miserable.

His latest charm offensive is "use it or loose it" posters which are great at attracting the passing tourist trade.

In this case though I blame the demise on the greed of the leaseholder. They've screwed the profit out of the publicans to the point it's not viable as a business. There have been some excellent people in there who've made the pub / restaurant very successful – but the leaseholder just keeps demanding more.

It's a real shame as it is (rather was) a focal heart for the village.

B5030 to the A50 (fewer slow lorries than the A515).

It'll take about an hour with the traffic. The A52 can be slow – particularly down Ash Bank and Leek Road.

Leek likes the snow & the Endon road is no better.
