Been there, with my son on the bonnet of someone’s car. Entirely my son’s fault, and thankfully the very alert driver ensured a low speed impact. Helmets for bikes and boards are mandatory in this house regardless of how long they’re riding for. Best wishes to your mate and a speedy recovery to his boy.

Jesus, you win with that first one! 8O It’s terrifying, gives me the shivers! That shot where the light comes through though is pretty inspirational though. Yet another lucky fella.

Not sure I fancy a ball coming over the top of that barrier ;) Here’s hoping they pull it off, but I think it’ll be unlikely. I really do want to be proved wrong though.

You’ve got to love mother nature. Impressive stuff – or is it just CGI shenanigans ;)

You asked DT….

Looks good but on Chrome 10.0.648.204

Useability:
I like the interface but:

The silverlight UI takes quite a while to load – create an exe as an option.

Saving a map with a simple route times out – well it doesn’t time-out, the saving “wheel” just keeps spinning.

Info:
They need a layers option – not just routes. For example the OS maps don’t show designated cycle paths that appear on printed OS maps / are available digitally from the OS.

They need a social component – layer sharing and search for users – e.g. “all bridleways highlighted in area X” – not just a KML import.

I’m not the target customer as I’ve already got most of the digital OS maps I need, but if they made the subs £10 per annum (rather than the post launch £30) I’d use it anyway. The reason for saying this is that it would be pretty much a perpetual licence / buy for most home users who are interested in walking, cycling or whatever. When I look at the 5 year cost or more, I can buy a lot of OS tiles for that!

I broke my Whyte 19c. Well, I say I say I broke it, one of the cable guides de-bonded. Two things impressed me. The first was the painless replacement process (ignoring the time it took for the frame to arrive), the other was that the guides are no longer bonded.
Hats off to ATB sales for their customer service.

I also managed to destroy an Easton EC90 SL riser. Well I say I destroyed it, the bike it was fitted to fell off the roof rack at 50 mph. Again what impressed me was the bar took a direct blow, but all the damage was caused by the levers rotating and digging in to the carbon. They were otherwise intact.

Andyl, thanks. I wondered why the CNT logos had gone of the 2011 SL bars

So carbon is great – when applied / designed / manufactured correctly – just like any other material.

Best bike I’ve owned is my whyte 19c. It’s a do it all bike that I always go back to. With the sales on you can pick them up for 1800ish

nope…{edit: though google suggests otherwise}. The combo I tried didn’t. Diameter of the pin was too large

I use it. It’s not the most intuitive app, but it’s the one I tend to use most, and the most “tweakable”. You’ll need mobile atlas creator to create any offline maps you need (which is pretty straightforward if you read the instructions). If you don’t, then it will try to use your 3g connection to download maps over the air – which will reduce your battery life or leave you lost somewhere with no signal.

Not tried MM tracker though.

Others I’ve still left on the phone are :
Maverick (paid) though there is a free version. Looks good and a simple UI, but it’s a pain to use.
Multimap
OS map

Just over 4 hours, 4 days a week, with regular trips to London for fun which are 6 hours. Thankfully half of that regular commute is on the train. I wouldn’t consider commuting any further though, but I’d rather commute than stay overnight.

Excellent – I trawled the net for ages looking for a decent quality triple or double a year ago and only came up with a couple of options – none of which were in stock anywhere or turned out had been discontinued.

Cervinia is always a decent bet due to the glacier, height and aspect, plus you can ski Zermatt as well depending on conditions.

Off to Are in Sweden again in a few weeks and they’ve had fresh snow this week. You could “go North”.

about 25% sag, Rebound slightly slower than half for me.

I find them (09) stiff for an xc fork – nothing like the older SIDs

I was holding off but the wife spotted some glasses and some non-second ski goggles. Seemed wrong not to join in so I’ll take those VR28 polarised half jackets, thank you. “Last Chance” code is still working.

May the snobbery continue.

I love the shop – but then I like a bargain. It’s the luck of the draw usually though. Some recent ones:

Peak Performance softshell – £275 to £70
Marmot jacket – £260 down to £60
Zegna suit – £750 to £200

MP is their top end stuff so it’ll be over 400 for a set. They asked for input on their forum ages ago as to what would make the “ultimate” brake, and it’s good to see they addressed things such as specific L&R levers (pointless for manufacturing and a pain as a rider), R1 style clamps etc.

The “ultimate” brake didn’t necessarily mean the lightest. Hopefully they’re still a cinch to service like the Martas and Louises

I’ve had a set of the new storm rotors for ages, but still waiting for a frame warranty replacement to hang them on and try them out.

They’ve done it a few times before. Pure “PR” (if you class this as PR). Just another of the 400 “specials” they launch.

Those leathers are just awful. I like the 70’s bit, but not with the VR46 legs!

How hacked off does Hayden look in that pic? He should be happy in the knowledge he doesn’t have to wear Vale’s leathers.

anyone after a gore i found the cheapest place to be
here

They’re not exactly cheap. I bought a Cosmo windstopper from Outside (well “the square“) in Hathersage for 99 quid – RRP is 150. They only had 1 large left though but lots of other gore jackets. The countdown gloves are a bargain as well and they’re a much better fit than my Enduras.

For the winter sports folks, Outside have got Haglofs Couloir pants in for 199.

“eeeeeeeeee…” that pretty much sums up the rest of your life (that’ll be the ringing not the drugs). Mine’s become a permanant fixture in the last year or so, but in the last couple of weeks I occasionally get two different notes that switch. Wierd as it happens for no reason, but if it carries on It’ll be producing it’s own tunes at this rate.

Basically they’ve put you (and me, and everyone else who’se had the misfortune to reboot their router today) on a traffic profile that’s designed to not use much bandwidth. That rules any download / media type stuff – though youtube was working a few mins ago.

Link to their problem record / updates on the fix.

I’d be pertty sure this is the cause of your dire download speeds, and not your shiny new PC.

*Edit…just read that your other PCs are working…unlikely to be this then…just DON’T reboot your router or it will be :)

Are you with Plusnet as your ISP? They’ve had problems today which seem to have just been fixed that would have the same effect.

Check your ISP service status, then try your old PC to make sure it’s really your new one that’s at fault.

Bear with me on the length of the post :) After I smashed my ankle I decided to get a new pair of boots last year because I didn’t want to risk ruining a holiday having always struggled with boots in the past. I did a bit of reading on snowheads and tried to get CEM (colin) to do the fitting. Unfortunately I didn’t have long before I travelled and he was off to support the Scottish ski team training camp for a week so it ruled him out.

He pointed me at James who owns Outdoor Traders in Abingdon. Absolutely top bloke. He took a load of measurements and biomechanical checks, and asked all about my skiing, injuries and so on.

I tried on a variety of shells first of all to give him the best platform to work with.Onhis advice I didn’t go for the ones I liked the look of but a cheaper boot as he thought it would give the best fit with the minimum mods needed to the shell.

I went for a daleboot liner with a custom footbed, but because he was out of my size and it would be touch-and-go for a new one to arrive he lent me his own liner, and fully set up the boots. I did it all in one fitting which he really doesn’t recommend, and I’ll be going back soon to get my own liners fitted for this season – so he basically is doing 2 fittings for me for the price of one.

The boots were fantastic. I went from a Nordica 27.5 to a Salomon 26,0. I’d always clamped boots down too tightly and these are a revalation. I just close them and they just hug my feet. They are very snug (borderline painful) ’till they warm up as you’d expect, but after that they are a perfect fit.

It genuinely was one of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I travelled for 3 hours to get there, and I’ve got a pair of boots that should last me ages now.

There are a few Lockwoods recommendations here. I tried them and I thought they were no better than any other basic bootfitter (and I found out afterwards that the good ones who’d built the reputation had all moved on). Anyway, a long post but painful boots can ruin a skiing holiday, wheras good ones can make it exceptional.

I really would recommend him! This page is worth a read to find out about a “proper” boot fitting.

In Sweden and Finland the resort hire shops normally have a big bucket of helmets for people to borrow for free or for a small fee. The warmth aspect is a big bonus but after a couple of near misses with trees trying to keep up with my kids I can see the real value as well.

OP be aware that sizes are a total hit and miss affair between the manufacturers. I’ve got a Xen for the bike but hate the fit of the Giro ski helmets I’ve tried.

Re boot in to safe mode above, first try “boot in to safe mode with Networking” – soyou can connect to the net to download and run Malwarebytes etc.

If you’re still hijacked or redirected, download them on someone elses PC and copy them on to a memory stick.

To fix it you may well have to do some pretty low level stuff with the likes of RKill and Hijackthis but it’s straightforward (though often lengthy) if you print off the instructions.

Do you have vista or 7? If you’re running recovery mode you could try loading an earlier image of the machine if the AV / malware products don’t work.

Which “fake” AV site / product is it redirecting you to ?

Yes Jimjam, along with “9 lives”.

Surely to be followed up with their “accesory backpack” no doubt with a power station attached as it’ll need one if it gets all those features listed (nine lives excepted :) )

I think I’d rather spend the money on another trip.
