Have a look at this, though there was a big reduction in what it can do a few years ago as lots of sites withdrew compatibility, but it looks like it’ll still generate KMZs.

yep, 5’10 and have a 54cm 08 Mortirolo. If anything I’d say it’s a little short for me, but I preferred it to the 56 cm at the time.

ATB sales are normally v good about getting a demo bike in to a dealer so I’d ask.

Something to be aware of, even my bobby basic carbon Mortirolo has incredibly tight clearances that won’t take a set of guards. The clearances are better on my Canyon CF SLX (though that’s not a winter bike).

Magura used to make spacers. I had a 5 mm high 1/18th one when I had a set of Thors. I ran it so I wouldn’t rip off the valve if the forks rotated (I crashed).

I have a DSG box in my Caravelle. I like it a lot and much prefer it over a manual. I notice a delay when accelerating from standstill. It’s well known / documented issue and I’d buy another DSG.

As you were asking about the ipad, 53 is pretty cool. A couple of in app purchases and I bought ” the pencil” for 20 ish on Amazon.

    Have a look at TSOhost.
I use them for a WordPress site for a cycling club. They’re well priced and provide excellent support if you need it. I Can’t fault them really. We’ve had a couple of short outages and occasionally the site can be a little slow. That’s it.
    They also provide free backups

    From 2.99/ month IIRC

CG It was more the apparent 37 mph average sustainable speed of the thing and the rate it got there that didn’t seem to sit along side side something weighing over 400 kg :)

Chunky, agreed on all those points. I was also egging the bear on, though they’d have no doubt shot it. You’re right about the irony of whole energy conservation / expenditure point? He does take some cracking shots though, I just wish he’d stay behind the camera and talk less (certainly about himself)

I’ve had an alpkit one for years which has lasted well despite my best efforts. They also repaired it for free for me ( in exchange for a box of chocs). I found it warmer and nicer to wear than my Rab neutrino endurance. I couldn’t believe I sold the latter for almost full retail ( I paid 110) after a year though.

My favourite is a Halti I picked up in tacky max. Halti are a Finnish brand that make really nice kit. I think I paid 60 for a 750 FP jacket.

Only saw the end. Enjoyed it and it was very similar to what he did with the polar bears last year. Got mildly irritated though – despite the fact he could saunter up to the den and call for the pups when he was ” concerned” he could “never intervene”.

Yep, the speed of that Musk Ox going after the wolf was a real eye opener. Not an animal to be messed with.

Bought my em1 with the pro glass kit from Panamoz. They had much better reviews than SLR hut, though the biggest complaint I read about SLR hut was the “after order” call to sell more stuff.

I got the lot for not much more than the body would have cost in the UK. The camera arrived in 4 working days. They were incredibly easy to deal with. Was a bit scary sending cash by bank transfer ( you don’t have to but you save an extra 5 %) but it all worked out fine (I was encouraged by all the positive reviews)

It’s highly unlikely you’d get the cash back deal though as they won’t be a recognised dealer, but I’m sure they’ll be cheaper after you account for an equivalent cash back deal.

Yep, watching Reeves limp around a few tracks and Parrish killed it. The bits with Sheene and Roberts were great. Some nice interviews as well with King Kenny.

Dave, I’ll be on in a bit if you’re playing today. currently near lave if you’re anywhere near. been on a galactic tour trading rares :)

Pawsey, I take off my glasses, I’m not sure I could cope with wearing a pair either. I tried it and it it was really uncomfortable. The DK comes with two eyepieces that you can swap out. I use the standard one and I have no problems with vision at all.

The biggest impact was changing the HUD colour to green which is a quick file edit ( there are more green pixels in the DK) and using super sampling to make the gpu believe the OR supports a much higher resolution than it does. It then down samples but as there are more pixels in the ss image it gives you a crisper image ( as does running at 75 hz). It currently looks amazing even with the DKs limitations. The consumer version will have much higher res screens so you (hopefully) won’t need to bother with SS as to do the super sampling though you really need A high end gpu like a 980.

That said I was v happy before I did the SS tweaks. They just make it better.

If the OP’s budget won’t stretch to an x52 it definitely won’t stretch to a Warthog.
Moost of the popular sticks are listed here. The thrust master tflight was what I was originally going to get, then I convinced myself I needed the Ch or the Saitek

Cody it’s actually not too bad as a “life sink” :)

I spent my time in the beta just messing around. I’ve literally only started doing any real travel and trade. I started off bounty hunting, and learned quickly that however attractive a 190k bounty is my Eagle and me were no match for an elite NPC in a Python. Part of the fun was struggling to limp back for repairs for the life support to expire as I was just going in to the station.

Highlander, I thought the same re the OR. It does have some niggles ( it’s a Development product after all), and the pixel size is noticeable at first; but overall it’s completely changed the feel of the game – from sitting in front of a screen to being sat inside the cockpit in the vastness of space.

I will definitely buy the consumer version when it’s out, and I expect I can claw back some of the dk2’s cost via eBay. You’re right about the forums. Lots of whiney posts on there and people demanding stuff.

Ski, I agree it does feel like the original. Complete sandbox / do what you want. Unfortunately I think a lot of people who are coming to it cold were expecting more structure. Sod reading, just go and crash your ship a few times :) it’s free assuming you’ve not upgraded.

What’s that got to do with putting another brand or formats lens on your micro4/3 camera?

Nothing. It was a genuine question as unlike you I am a complete photography amateur and thought I’d read that somewhere as a disadvantage. Thanks for sharing the benefit of your wisdom.

With M4/3 are you not effectively doubling the lens if you use a std 35 mm lens? So your 50mm lens becomes the equivalent of 100mm whe mounted to a M4/3 Body?

She doesn’t want to spend time with you then ? :) It’s a lot easier with a stick. The Saitek X52 pro works great (it’s also what they modelled the one in the cockpits on) but is a bit of an investment. They’re all USB connected these days. Not looked in to KB maps as I play the whole game via the stick.
If you’ve not found the ED forums have a look on there as well. Lots of helpful advice.
Ask her for an Oculus Rift for your birthday :) It’s an absolutely amazing bit of kit and totally transforms the game. It’s the single-most amazing gaming thing I’ve ever bought.

Hard to see any of the current crop of Moto2 boys worrying him

Marquez was good in 125 and M2 but he wasn’t leagues ahead of everyone else.

Just look at the end of his last M2 season with his ongoing battles with Redding (who had a huge size / weight disadvantage). The challenge is they’ve put a very talented kid on one of the best bikes. Unless there’s another talented kid on kit that gets near in performance terms, he’ll always be the stand-out rider.

The Espagaros have done really well considering what they’re riding, but unless someone ends up in the factory teams all his 125 and M2 peers will look like also-rans as there’s such a gulf between the top 4 bikes and everyone else.

Yep, I wouldn’t say there’s a huge amount of clearance on a 26 2.2 Rubber queen if you’re bothered about winter muck, but I wouldn’t try the 2.4

SLR Hut get a lot of poor reviews which put me off them. I’ve just ordered a Oly em1 and 12 40 pro lens from Panamoz which is a bit more expensive than SLR Hut but their reviews seem so much better.

Rovaniemi is pretty commercialised. We went to Ruka and went to a “local” Santa who seems to be well known in Finland. it was brilliant and the kids have never forgotten it (and nor have we). Basically a skiing trip with a visit to see Santa bolted on.

Finland and Sweden are great places for kids to learn to ski as well.

Have a look at the Ruka website. Joulupukki is on there.

I rode it today :) . 56 “lumpy” miles from Gairloch and across Torridon. Beautiful sunshine at the base turning to freezing rain, hail that burned, fog and a pig of a headwind. I was frozen in 2 layers on the descent and couldn’t grip the brakes coming down which made things interesting, as did my shivering.

I was on a 27. The first few miles are easy going, but the last section just below the S bends was too much for me with the weather and gearing so I had to stop for munchies, and to watch the wild deer in the bowl which was great (apart from the weather).

One of the best day’s I’ve ever had on the bike. The scenery around the area is spectacular. The circular route looks great, but it’s lumpy as well so be prepared for a lot of climbing (it’s about 4800 ft in 45 miles). We drove back that way and it’s a beautiful route with deer everywhere.

The pub in Applecross is excellent. Do it!

Kask – very clever sizing and retention system which feels really comfortable on. Not the cheapest but there are often sales on (I got mine from on one).

OP you’re being far too rational!

I do know what you mean though because unless you know exactly what you want you feel like you may be taking an expensive punt on something that might not be “magic” when you ride it or just a bit “meh”.

I talked myself out of an Eriksen or Potts hardtail (I’d wanted one for 10 + years) because I came to the conclusion I didn’t need another one and I couldn’t decide on what geo to go for.

On the other hand, I’ve convinced myself that my old roadbike won’t take guards so that’s turning in to an excuse for a custom steel roadbike.

To invest a large chunk of cash in a frame this time I need some “emotional” reason, and I like the idea of having something “locally” made.

I’d considered Rourke, Mercian and Field and decided on Field partly because I knew one of them (plus they look fantastic). Then I realised I’d overlooked Sword cycles. The guy is ex Mercian and I like the fact that he’s really local to me and he works out of a garage. I’m going to copy my current bike completely geometry wise as it’s set up perfectly for me. I also like the fact he used cromaworks for the paint (as do Field).

    Bespoked interview and pics

I think the point I’m trying to make is that unless there’s an emotional attachment or a big “want it” screaming in the back of your head, I’d hold on to the cash and wait ’till it kicks in (it will at some point). Then you’ll get the buzz :).

I do like the thumb shift buttons which on the newer levers is perfectly positioned for me.

One bike with veloce, one with record EPS. I find the smaller hoods more comfy, and I’m not a fan of double tap. Only one of my bikes is Italian.

They’re nice bikes for the money. They work well for kids because they (did) come in small 26″ sizes and have a fairly short TT. I got one for my son a few years ago and my daughter uses it now.

I also put a shorter stem on and cut down the bars though he was a tall 9 year old at the time.

Depending on how old he is think about flipping the stem to lower the bars, and stick flats on if they’re risers…but if he’s outgrowing the Beinn probably not necessary.

Chrome hill & Parkhouse maybe a bit far North but worth it, my favourite walk in the white peak (go to the Royal Oak at Hurdlow or Bull at Monyash).
Roaches / Ludds church (not sure of a decent pub round there)
Dimmingsdale (not sure of a decent pub round there)
    Litton & Cressbrook
    Dove Dale / Millers dale
^^ Birchover’s nice but not been to the Druid for a long time.

Sweaty palms watching that. looks like they were quite a way up from the corner…just not far enough. As kids we learned to stand on the inside just to avoid all the gravel being shotgunned in Whinlatter and Kielder.
