Cheeers for clearing that one up! Rick.

I ordered my 32t today any idea when i’ll get it 🙂

Do you just keep an eye for thick thin threads?

Always nice to see the blokes who make the gear on here.
Makes it almost like a real forum

It would make more sense to have a general licensing agreement over this patent thing as it could go on for years. But im not a lawyer i’m a builder!!

I think my understanding is they hold a patent on the application of the design. So for bicycle componantry. As the orginal was for chain driven agricultural machinery in the 70’s.
So i think they sort of do. But thats what the lawsuit is about. Works did put something on their site in this regard and it was a long thread on here a couple of months ago.

    ^^^ 🙂 ^^

Yeah the spinning bit ive never got on with either. But if its too small i’ll take a little hit and sell it on. Thats when i see most people wobble off their bikes. Too busy ridiculously spinning to have any actual forward momentum. Saw quite alot of this on ltb on saturday.

Didn’t Sram stop Works as well? They’ve just restocked so must have sorted something out!
Anyway ordered a 32 and i’ll see how it goes. There seems to be a few with the same set up on the other thread regarding this.
I’m surprised one of the mags havent done a full how to how not to article. They mention it and how great it is but not what to look out for and potential pitfalls off the set up, ie the 32t catching on the spider! too late.

Hmmm. I ride everything really. Blacks where avaiable, natural where its good, BPW couple of weeks then Alps next year. So setting up as a do it all bike. the ring wear has been mentioned a few times on here.
would the bash deflect keep a bit of crap away from the ring, or is it more the ahbrasion through the chain and the crap on that?
    thinking 32 works at £35

Thats the main bit i can’t decide on. 30-32 or 34! like i said i do most my riding on the 38 so was thinking 32 as thats bang in the middle of the range, but would i miss the power on the 38. So a 34 would be a compromise!

On my commute to the station the other morning it was quite foggy. i came upon a cyclist wearing black top and dark jeans. he had reflectors on his panniers and a center light on the back. i past him didnt say anything. he must of got upset that i’d speed past him on my brommie as i heard his gear change and him panting after me. as i waited at the lights he shot past me. Very keen to get back in front!
anyway i told him as i caught him again his rear light wasnt working.’i know i haven’t turned it on’ was his reply.
i told him that i didnt see him until i was about 5m away and that if a car hadnt had its lights on they wouldnt have seen him until he was bouncing over the bonnet. he looked shocked and a little embarassed!

Tyre pressure is my usual first port if bikes not feeling ‘right’. This can make a massive difference to my confidence on the bike(and level of grip). If it grips i’m happy. i do fiddle with the knobs on the trails but can’t tell if it helps or not and usually just go to the middle ground with the forks. conversly have never touch the rear shock except when i lock it out.

Don’t understand why people can’t put the gel wrappers in there packs or pockets. I have one pocket for empties and just clean it out!
Enjoyed the event today. Cheers for the signs gee.
Brakes I bet you went straight on at that descent instead of the sharp right 🙂 think you passed me on the road

I seem to be getting abuse from my bro’s for not doing it on my cx. Might be a last minute change of plan.
Ekul- you broken that norco yet?!

Initially I couldn’t for the life of me get the tyre to inflate with a track pump. Then just rolled the wheel fully a rotation and it popped the bead into place and hey presto, up straight away and stayed up. There was something in mbuk about them having trouble inflating on the arch ex.

I’ve got a cx bike but my bro and mate are on mtb so I’d just be hanging round for them. Plus it’s a charity ride so should be enjoyable first off. Although their cheating me by using their hardtails and not their fs bikes! Just gonna lock the shock and brain out. Might take my dropper off though!

Balls. I had leaky sidewalls on my purgatory last night. Wondered what the hell had happened to my tire. Just loads of stans fluid weeping out.
Oh they went on my new arch ex rims no bother. I do dip the tyre in a bit of warm water to make them a bit more supple.

Smell it is winning so far! Non runny eggs are possibly the most disappointing thing in the world.

London is a poo hole mostly and I do up the the big nice houses you see on the telly. But I’m a country boy too!!

Ah mine are obsolete 26″ so their probably rummaging round the defect bin. Plus I wanted the blue hubs!

I must add it was the wife that had ordered the Xmas pressies without my knowledge. As the norm. Hence the disappointment.
Really already?! Where they off the shelf?

Strava does seem a bit odd sometimes though. Did a ride couple of weeks ago and it gave 600ft of dif between me and a mate doing the same route at the same time. It also seems to correct alot of the data once synced.

Rude is rude where ever you are.

Use strava as a fitness/training tool on the road bike. Off road i enjoy pissing about to much and having a laugh. still use it off road

    but more as route measure..

Except all pro riders road ride as part of there fitness training. I do both and enjoy both. But if I had choose it’d be the mtb every time 🙂 yeah them anti social road riders going round in them big groups chatting and eating cake. But I know what you mean.

At swinley on Sunday a couple of blokes asked me and my bro to do a section before them as we were on flats, so in their opinion where more likely to be in need of the air ambulance. Still can’t figure that out! But duly obliged them by riding off like we’d stole em. Best run I’ve done there! Think it was top off 25 not sure though. Funny how a little thing can focus the mind. I don’t mind either. But do like the freedom to move about on the flats

Have you tried gently heating the area. Ali should expand while the carbon should shrink a little. Advice given in an old thread.

I thought crane creek did an external converter as looked at this myself. I’d have another look. Probably wrong but I only looked a couple of weeks ago.

Beat him up. Borrow some bombers! A bit of a lesson there fella. Follow your first instinct. I had similar sort of thing hence why I now have 3 bikes. As stw demands :). But I have a job and supportive wife! If your that unhappy sell it. But research the second hand prices. Look at classifieds and fleebay for a guide. It’s a pain in the ass but if your not gonna ride it get rid. I also agree you’ve not ridden it enough. I’ve had my mtb for 2 years and still tinkering to get it right. My road bike is getting changed soon as well. But I’m fussy!

Has your friend that talked you into it not dragged you out for a few rides?

Feel for you really, but for what you,d get for it you’d probably be able to get a decent second hand 120-140 hardtail. As some else mentioned have a look round for any swap offers. Quite a lot come up as injuries and so forth can force people off the mtb’s. i think people are being quite pessimistic about the price you’d get. Seems to be more demand for road bikes atm.

Personally it depends who you ride with as well. I have a good small group of lads I go out on the road with. Push each other well. I have a even smaller group I go mtbing with again we improve each other every time we go out. I’m the only one that does both and love them both for different reasons. But hate my commute!

Just to get back to the OP. Was commuting back from west brompton to watford on train. Had my brommie folded up nicely tucked away behind me, so not to get to many’that bikes taking up to much space’ crap. When at Olympia a bloke got on with a foldy Dahon, brand new, and didnt fold it down! I get enough abuse on that route without idiots coming on with unfolded fold up bikes!!!! Then started getting annoyed cos people were touching his new bike! fold it idiot!!!

    GrahamS.

I take you point with the AUZ stats, However i’m more thinking of it in a different cultural mentality. I dont think that 30% of cyclist hit the roads without helmets in this country. On my weekend road rides probably 5% on my commute 10% off road cant remember seeing any one without a helmet. (Personal expirence not fact. no flaming required)
Also same in germany and denmark. Cycling is not perceived as dangerous as there are so many cyclists. Drivers are more likely to be cyclists themselves so have more patience and have more awareness. We have a problem in this country with the perception of cyclists and lack of regard most drivers have for the space and speed.
I do feel like i’ve got a massive target on me when i put my hi vis gear on. That i dont understand! And bus drivers!

Not quite anicdotal, however im sure i read a report from NZ that said that there was no drop in the loss of life regards cycling with complusary helmets. However they could not say what % had been saved from brain damage as a result due to it being so hard to quantify.
As previously pointed out generally if you get hit over a certain speed its gonna cause damage to all parts of the body.
I personally have had an off on the road and my helmet saved me from a nasty head injury. Also had many off road spills where the helmet has taken the brunt.
Off road i’m taking measures to protect myself from myself. On road i’m taking measures to protect me from others.
My kids think its great wearing helmets as its part of the gear Daddy wears!
I dont buy the making helmets complusary will reduce cycling numbers either.

I like! Apart from the Lycra knee holder as that’s what I was getting away from. But maybe a winter option for me. Knees are strange any way. I wear a knee support for rugby otherwise can’t walk for a few days and if I wear it on the bike I can’t walk for days! Go figure.

I have bad knees and found my launch pro’s were making them, not worse, but tired. Went back to my raceface downhill shin/knee guards. Find I have no more problems. Knee is free to move about as the straps hold lower down and top can be loose as you like. They look a bit over kill but you can get knee and top shin guards with the same freedom of movement. Might not be for you but I wouldnt discount. I find them not as sweaty as well. Also I’d point out I love climbing as much as decending. I find I can whip them on and off in 30 secs. I just strap them on my pack on the ups. By the time I wait for the others to catch up I have my pads on ready for the downs

Staff generally willing to help by me but drew the line when they charged a women 3x as much as the bike was worth to service/fix. I had to step in and say something. Women horrified they’d already charged £70 for fixes. She bought as rat bike for £30!!! And they still wanted another £40 off her.
