my guess is that the OP felt like he was the stereotypical ‘all the gear and no idea’ biker but since clearing a modest drop and seeing others chicken it he thinks he is super RAD and now is better than the average all the gear and no idea riders and that a weight has lifted from his shoulders.

Thing is robo you were just like those people you are judging because up until recently you were riding round on a full bouncer without having done a 18inch drop. Whats to say those guys wont try that drop next time when some guy’s out the way? And how high a drop do you have to do to not to be mincing around? Whats the cut off point?

My Five is a little light on the front but wouldn’t say this is a problem as you just shift weight around just as youd move weight around if you were going down hill. Its sometimes an advantage when going up technical sections anyway

My watch is waterproof to 200m. Does this mean I have to go deep sea diving before im allowed to wear it?

looking at the Five Diva in Orange’s website it looks like it could be tight to get a CCDB in there in the conventional position. But theres no reason why you cant have the CCDB back to front or upside down or both.

I’d drop Orange an email tomoro if I was you.

Fox Digit gloves. Really comfy, good grip and very durable. Had them for the last 2 years and despite several falls their still in good condition. When they do eventually wear out i’ll be getting the same again

    +2 to what Mikey74 said.

Have a look at the British Gypsum website and download sections of the White Book for further info.

You could do Cwm Rhaeadr which is just up past Brechfa as an add on to Brechfa itself.

Is Bluestone in Pembrokeshire? Could do teh Preseli trail featured in this months ST issue? Haven’t done it myself yet tho

Still can’t think where those steps are.

If there the ones im thinking of its when you go past the pay booth for the forest drive, then up the steep section then cross a small timber bridge and its literally 10m on your left. The stream (or river bed) will be to your right

Agree with wrecker. I wouldt want anything in my pockets. And as theres no room for a water bottle on my frame so i find a small camelback is the most practical option.

Other than the pads stuffed into the back his camelback dosent look that big, not that he needs to justify it anyway.

its not a spare helmet is it though? looks like elbow or knee pads to me. Should have been wearing them though! 😀

If there at the same price i’d go for the V2’s. They may be slightly heavier but unless your a whippet I doubt you’d notice. The V2’s are more for DH than XC but use mine for everything.

Someone will be along shortly saying that Hopes dont work and you should buy shimano. Had V2’s on my bike for last 18 months with no issues in terms of performance and reliability. If I wasnt happy with them i’d have changed them by now.

As above, you could lower but I didn’t bother (just in case i’d have second thoughts about 2×10). Didn’t do anything else. works a treat

Could be the same old couple I saw at Brechfa saying they were entitled to walk their dog there despite me pointing at a sign saying no pedestrian access only 2m away from them.

I told them to watch their backs as bikes will be flying down there but they just shrugged their shoulders and carried on.

oh and some decent shoes would make a huge differenec too. dosent have to be very expensive. I use Vans skater shoes at the moment and if anything I have more grip than I want sometimes (sometimes you want to re-adjust your foot position on the pedal quickly but sometimes you just cant move ur foot quick enough). Bascially you want a shoe which has a tread that will allow good contact with the pins

nearly twice your budget. Some people would say your crazy spending more than £50 on pedals because you can get decent ones for that and the SS Nanos are very good. (amongst others)

    creamegg

stock pedals are usually crap. Superstar Nanos seem to have good reviews- got a pair on my girlfriends bike, and their ok (from my limited riding on them) but nowhere near as good as Straitline pedals, but then, they are way out of your budget.

I have V2’s on my five which gets used for everything XC, AM and DH. No experience of the other hope brakes but my V2’s have been faultless. been on the bike over 18 months now

@creamegg the username provides the clue, yiumdontnhave to be Sherlock Holmes to solve this one !

just because his username had brechfa in it did’t necesserily mean they’re actually based there. Could have quite easily been Carmarthen, LLandysul, Llandeilo, Llandovery and Lampeter amongst others.

I can’t remember seeing a mtb dealer last time i was in Brechfa, and theres not much there altogether to miss in the first place.

I’d say less that 1 in 10 bikes i see out and about are 29ers. Possibly even 1 in 20.

I don’t understand why there are so many negative comments

People are expressing their opinion. Do they have to say nice things just to please you and the OP or would you prefer an honest opinion?

Personally im not keen on the colour scheme but that dosent affect the ride and as long as you like it then thats all that matters.
